They make something that is quite blatantly of a certain genre or theme, then claim several years later that it was always about a miniscule underlying theme as a way to say 'you think you know everything, I bet you didn't know this'. That's true, but even if the stories in the prequel were bad… he understood that a character has to actually develop and grow. We saw absolutely non of that in Awakens.

For instance did you know that the original script had Han Solo reuniting with Leia at the end of the movie and not dying? Apparently JJ Binks believed this would make Han Solo "just baggage" since he wouldn't have had (according to JJ) any relevance to the movie. So… instead he made Han Solo a plot device in order to sell Kylo – and thereby making Kylo even more f a Scrappy than he already was.

In defense of Lucas, he was right. The Core story was about "family". You could take the same story and put it in a fantasy "Conan" universe and the story wouldn't really change.

The first Star Wars movies were driven by the interactions of the characters. You should go watch some of the "making of" of the old movies where they talk about how they created the Light Sabers ect

Yeah it's a shame he couldn't put that into practice in any way shape or form when the Prequels rolled around. The whole trilogy is meant to be Anakin's slide into darkness yet his character is written as an petulant shithead from the start, was full of backtracking in the third in an attempt to make him sympathetic right before he's turned into a horrible murderer out of nowhere.

To be fair, that theme is present in Force Awakens as well. Pretty much all of the new characters are related in one way or another save for Finn, we know Rey is Luke's daughter. So we have Rey, Kylo, Luke, Han, Leia, most of the primary cast all share some sort of blood relation. He's not wrong, and maybe it isn't as present of a theme as he'd like it to be, but it's not missing in The Force Awakens.

That's likely because everyone was telling him he should write the whole thing himself and not listen to any advice. In the Original trilogy for instance he had help writing the dialogue since George can't write how people actually speak.

I was actually more pissed off at that Anakin was found as a kid and was younger than Luke's mother. Anakin shouldn't even have been in Phantom Menace, they should have saved him for "Clone Wars" and have him turn up either as a normal fully trained Jedi or as an adult normal fighter pilot that all of a sudden started feeling the force.
