Is there a reason why Durge looks like a regular alien in the Clone Wars comics, but is a pile of nerves in Genndy Wars?

I know you're going to say "EU isn't canon", but as far as I know, both of them are considered Legends, and part of the old CW "multimedia project".

Did the trooper's missile just burn off his skin or something?
