Can we get a prequel appreciation thread going on around here, and note how all the retards saying "too much cgi" are A) RLM parrots and B) too stupid to know that george just used the same principals and techniques that were used in the OT, but with updated graphics?

 No.11216

also, i hate theforce.net, but this and their tfa synopsis threads are the only good things to ever come out of that shithole

http://boards.theforce.net/threads/practical-effects-in-the-prequels-sets-pictures-models-etc.50017310/

also also, does anyone here frequent the "prequel appreciation society" or whatever they're called? i want to go there, but they seem like a bunch of rabid butthurt cucks, and i don't want to associate myself with them.

 No.11218

The prequels are pretty shit but I can appreciate the material we got as a result of them.

 No.11227

the prequels had the same problems the OT had

effects were clunky at times, acting was often really stilted, the dialogue was bullshit admittedly far more of this in the PT and so on

but, like the OT, the PT built a world that we all love, and I'd say it showed far more of it

I want to say, those OT paintings were beautiful, rather than ugly cg that was bad when it came out.

The PT was extremely inventive and imaginative. Shame about some of the clunky plot and most of the dialogue.

 No.11370

The practical effects and animation of the OT hold up well today, while the CG jizzfest of the PT looks horribly outdated. There's a reason TFA used more practical effects over CG- it just looks better.

Some of the things that Phantom Menace had going for it:

-Darth Maul

-The Pod Race

-The final QGJ/OWK/Darth Maul battle

What Attack of the Clones had going for it:

-Hmmm… less Jar Jar? I honestly can't recall anything memorable happening in Ep 2.

What Revenge of the Sith had going for it:

Everything, minus a few quibbles. The dialogue was as forgettable as the rest of the PT and the character development was laughable.

I rank RotS as the strongest of the PT, which makes it on par with the weakest of the OT (RotJ).

What absolute twaddle!

I am so fucking tired of hearing this BS that the PT were nothing but CGI.

In fact the PT used more models and miniatures than the entire OT.

I haven't seen TFA, nor do I plan to, but I have heard the CGI (and there appears to be quite a lot of it) was not as good as one might expect from a major blockbuster from 2015.

Don't make me pull out my OT bluescreen folder again…

not to mention the ot was filled to the brim with matte paintings, which only some of them have aged well.

the miniatures in the pt on the other hand (especially the naboo city streets) look fucking fantastic to this day, i just rewatched phantom menace last night so this is fresh in my brain.

Is that a fucking CG mask?

 No.11393

>>11392

Yeah, someone over at /tv/ mentioned that the actor complained that he couldn't see shit with the mask on, so had to be digitally added to the scene: http://8ch.net/tv/res/228754.html#q230740

Nobody said TFA didn't have CG, it just has wayyyyyyy less than the PT and it looks better. Prove me wrong.

>wayyyyyyy less than the PT

nope, it's definitely got more

>it looks better

debatable, having watched episode 1 recently the cgi still holds up surprisingly well. i'll have a better answer when i re-watch 2 and 3.

 No.11670

If I'm gonna give Lucas and the PT any credit, it's that Lucas actually built UP his galaxy with it. Every episode had new aliens, new planets (Naboo actually had varying ecosystems for goodness sake!), new ships, and with Episode 1 we had a new freaking lightsaber (That was already in the comics, but for a lot of us Darth Maul was our intro to the Double Blade.)!

Heck, it even gave us an idea on just what the Galaxy was like before The Empire! We got to see Sheeve's rise to power! We got to see more Jedi! We got to see Yoda show why HE was Super King Big Nuts among Jedi!

Basically, even as bad as they could get, and oh LORD could it get bad, there's still PLENTY to love in these movies.
