 No.11261

>Never wrote anything in my life besides paperwork and school work

>Think about story ideas at work

>Decide to write a Star Wars nove… I mean "fanfic"

>Spend months trying to craft decent drafts from little base ideas I had

>Have 3 working story prototypes

>My writing's not amazing but I think we can work out something great with the story if I get tips from my college's writing/poetry club and Litterature teachers

>One of them is about an imperial cadet ending up janitor/custodian on a Star Destroyer along the maintenance droids because he fucked up Private Pyle tier (this will be important later)

>Get hopes of making a (at least semi decent) "Behind the propaganda" war tale like "all quiet on the western front" but with a slight "Gone with the blastwave" humor

>It's not really good, but this project made me discover a new hobby that I could easily hone my skill in if I avoid the eventual fanfiction writer clichés

>Disney announces new EU

>It fucks everything up in the lore

>try to rework some parts, but I must change/remove massive chunks and keep up with the new canon

>See The Force Awakens

>People thinks I stole the Janitor work stories from Finn being the garbage tosser

>I also get lynched for still having old EU that noone care about anymore

>All this work seems to have it's rightful place in the trash bin

>Consider finding new hobby/occupation that could actually be pertinent or help people

How much did EU 2.0 fucked you up guys ?

 No.11263

I feel you OP.

Also trying to work on a "fanfic". What I'm doing is just setting it so far after ROTJ that it could fit into either EU/Legends or Disney shit.

Don't know if that'll work for what you're doing, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Damn, man, how far did you get before nuEU happened?

I was also working on a story, updated a few chapters online, named Genocide. It was about a newly reconstructed Grievous going apeshit on the Huk for enslaving his people, takes place 1 week before Geonosis. I lost interest in finishing it at some point but I basically said fuck the Disney canon when writing it. Caught some shit for it too, but what are you gonna do? If it's pre-ROTS it's still canon, period. The mouse made it perfectly clear that they wish to disown the entire Old Republic era because "muh OT" More power to them, but they had no right to wipe the canon of an era they refuse to even re visit. It could be years before that whole section of the timeline is molded to thier image, if ever. Even the most diehard Disney canon apologists have to agree with me here. While losing Mara Jade and Katarn hurts, this kills me.

Tl;dr: don't give up on writing my African American friend. It's a good hobby you never get too old for. Write what you want to because

1.) It's your story

And 2.) if this board is any evidence, there are plenty of fans who still love the EU 1.0 content.

 No.11277

I really think that we need to create three things for this board:

>A Sith Lord

>A Jedi

>A Board-Tan

Anybody good at MS Paint?

I've wanted to write an anthology of short stories set in the EU for a long time, just to see if I could elevate the material and inject some of my better ideas into the SW universe. TFA killed pretty much any motivation I had, not only because it was so bad but because the majority of people who'll read the stories will be dumbfucks who are fans of it.

Your friendly board photoshopping tripfag reporting (ooh look at me I'm an attention whore)

I like to draw shit on photoshop with my tablet

Shoot some ideas, I tend to deliver slowly, but deliver nonetheless.

How about Salacious B Crumb with a slave outfit for our board tan ?

What kind of Jedi and Sith are talking about here?

Do we want a Sith like Vader or Caedus or Kreia or Sheev?

And do we want a Jedi like Obi-Wan or Yoda or Kyle Katarn?

 No.11293

>>11285

The with should look like your standard internet edge-lord and the jedi should be some sort of old autist.

Darth Coldsteel then?

 No.11299

>Start working on plot

>Planning out all the details and such

>Story ends up looking long enough to make a trilogy

>Set it far enough away in the timeline that I have enough room to work with and not interfere with canon

>Planning out lore and backstories

>Get caught on details like who had been who's apprentice and events leading up to formation of different factions

>End up practically planning out prequels

 No.11330

I'm writing one about Zannah and Cognus

 No.11333

>How much did EU 2.0 fuck you up guys?

Not much since I didn't start writing my autistic generic fanfiction until after the new film came out.

 No.11361

What if there were a /starwars/ archive with a timeline of stories by troopers?

 No.11384

i dig this idea

i suggest we build our own eu, through a mixture of the old eu and original ideas. in a simple way of the democratic voting method thing that we use to elect our government goys, someone (or a team) will brainstorm some ideas, let the community vote on which idea they think is the best (i.e. stick with the truce at bakura or rewrite it into something new), and then we make that the story and push on.

who else is with me?

 No.11407

>>11384

i dont, i want actual writers to do EU, not autists

Of course theres a fine line, but still

 No.11408

>>11407

>actual writers

well i don't have a fucking time machine to stop the disney buyout, so you'll have to either settle with autists with heart, or paid autists like chuck wendig

Fanfic can be done well if…

I kid, I kid. Fanfic is never good under any circumstance. The only people that read it are other fanfic authors. It's like a big circle jerk where one untalented hack watches another guy spooge, and then the spooger watches his watcher jizz on a sock. Then they compliment each others cum abilities like the faggots they are.

I'd be behind this. Hell this boards slow enough that it could probably just be a thread. No need to set anything else up, just start a thread and start posting links.

>>11408

This. Its either us autists that give a shit and know about the lore or tards like Cuck Wendig who use the IP as a means to earn SJW brownie points while somehow making officially licensed fanfic even dumber than it is already.

 No.11458

>>11412

>Fanfic is never good under any circumstance

With Star Wars, some of us just want to make genuinely good EU material. Not some TOR forums garbage filler, something worth of a small novel.

 No.11528

who gives a fuck about the new stuff? Its a fanfic, just label it, "Legends Continuity" and have fun

 No.11575

>>11261

>One of them is about an imperial cadet ending up janitor/custodian on a Star Destroyer along the maintenance droids

A janitor just does cleaning, nothing more. Custodians would not only clean, but also do plumbing, maintenance, etc. So a Star Destroyer probably wouldn't have any janitors, but it would have custodians.

Just in case somebody cares about the distinction.

 No.11951

>tfw you spend a lot of time doing research for your Star Wars novel that you will never be able to publish or post anywhere other than a fanfiction site

I'm in a similar situation.

I've written 45 pages of story outlines, excerpts and notes for a fanfic, and I've ended up changing it and added so much new ideas and concepts of my own to it that I would love to change it up further to see if it could stand on its own.

 No.12063

>>11962

As in making it not Star Wars universe at all? Similar here, I'm looking back through all my outlines and starting to wonder if I can set it in it's own universe.

 No.12067

>>12063

There's always the lazy easy way: copy The Asylum and change the title and names around just enough to avoid getting sued.
