'The Force Awakens' has been nominated for 5 Oscars, but they are bullshit ones like Sound Mixing (wtf?) and Editing. Should it have been nominated for best picture? Perhaps Ford could have snuck in as a supporting actor?

To put this in perspective, Mad Max and the Revenant have 10 and 12 nominations respectively.

those are the usual categories star wars gets nominated for. the fact that a new hope got the best picture nom was kind of a fluke.

dunno why they gave them editing, the editing in tfa was worse than literally every other star wars movie ever made, including the holiday special and droids/ewoks.

also, ford didn't do a fucking thing worthwhile in the movie. he felt more like indiana jones than han solo.

what's shitty is that the film got a nom for best original score, but this is by far the worst star wars score and not a very good williams score. even his other scores that have basically been recycled material (tintin for example) were better than tfa's.

i would also like to add in that the revenant has visual effects in the bag, mad max/revenant will get sound mixing/editing, ennio morricone should win best score, film editing would go to either mad max or revenant

basically, expect mad max and revenant to chalk up the bulk of their nominations, because it really showed.

I agree with you about the score. It was definitely a recycled version of the scores from the previous films meant to generate nostalgic and therefore positive feelings amongst audiences
