Because fuck the new canon and fuck TFA. Fuck everything Disney had to do with it. So regardless of what Disney has said, do you still consider the old EU still canon and relevant to you?

 No.11798

The original EU is much more complex and visionary than the dumbed down, PC version that is being proposed.

Event though I didn't invest much time or money in it except for the games, my favorite enemies are the Yuuzhan Vong. Instead of the trite dark vs light shit, try imagining beings entirely outside the Force. There's much more at stake.

They might still come back in movies or other media by di$ney

 No.11799

I don't really consider anything as canon.

I do however think the world in the old EU was actually immersive and enjoyable.

The new shit just feels superficial and empty. To be honest, after watching the Force Awakens I hardly care about Star Wars anymore. If the people who own the franchise don't want to take it seriously, then why should I care what they do?

Doubs, And good point.

I guess I just hated seeing everything that's made the whole franchise vibrant be crushed in a single instance by the fucking mouse.

It's like seeing that precious something you grew up with. It's been a part of your childhood and it's made such a lasting impression that it developed a culture that you also took a part in making. It made you feel invested.

And then it gets crushed, raped, grounded into paste and sold off like crack cocaine in the back alley of a store ran by niggers and I just can't, let, that, stand.

But then again, what can I do? I'll just go back to the old EU that's what.

 No.11802

I stopped considering old EU canon almost a decade ago now.

Excellent digits

It was bad enough they declared EU non canon, but almost immediately afterwards they dig into EU lore and slap them into their new canon but in such an uncreative and fanfic-tier way that makes me wonder why they bothered decononizing EU if they're were just gonna pick and choose EU elements to lazily tack on to their works. Because they don't have the ability to make anything new that fits in with existing Star Wars material.

What if disney made the EU non-canon, not because they wanted to change everything, but because they wanted to take their time, and assess which stories/legends could be accepted as being canon again. Malachor being the most prominent throwback to the EU disney has thrown our way.

This is just pure speculation, but Disney's actions to véry much point this direction.

if they had just gone with everything post-jedi being turned non-canon, i would have been fine with that. no need to de-canonize shadows of the empire, kotor or republic commando when none of it goes beyond episode 6.

 No.12034

>>12029

that could be the case, but I also think that disney decanonised a lot of it in order to streamline things, so that there are less conflicting accounts in the EU. It's logical from a certain point of view.

the shit with rogue one, i can understand. but, de-canonizing shadows of the empire is silly.

Sorry, but no. Just a dream of yours.

Di$ney is running a successful business model by not having to give any royalties to authors of the previous EU and enabling them to put little creative thought in the new canon, since they do rip elements here and there.

Now they can fill all that empty timeline space with works of dubious value (see Cuck Wendig novel) that the average consumer will still buy in order to get details and explanations missing from the slew of upcoming crappy movies

Yes. Thanks to them it still exists separately from the new EU as "Star Wars Legends" so we can make a fort of stoormtrooper blankets with no mice allowed and ignore all the new shit from disney. We might even get a book or game or two under the Legends name but who knows if it would even be decent.

 No.12219

I always laughed off the old EU before I got into, however I always considered some of the books canon, but not all of it (mainly post-ROTJ)

However after I saw Di$ney canned it, i started reading some books and going through wookiepedia articles on some topics and I realized how expansive and more complex the Old EU was. It dawned on me that the movies really werent as good as some of the books or stories.

My whole perception on Star Wars changed, and though old EU doesnt "feel" like OT Star Wars I still find it more interesting and easier to get lost in.

TFA is just not a good film, i like the visuals, i think its pretty and has some cool looking scenes but thats pretty much it. Im fine with having the film suck off the Original Trilogy once or twice but it happened just about every second. The pacing was pretty poor.

As a solo-film I think TFA is the worst Star Wars film, but i think it can be boosted above some movies (mainly 6 and 2) if 8 and 9 are good, however after seeing 7 start things off im just predicting its going to be the Original Trilogy rehashed with different roles.

The Old EU appeals to people like me more, people who like to delve into something stupidly complex, and it bothers the hell out of me to have Di$ney destroy one of the largest works of collective fiction ever just to make films that are rehashes of the OT.

If they're going to destroy decades worth of story and characters they should at least attempt to make something engaging and original.

>We might even get a book or game or two under the Legends name

that will literally never happen, they stated a long time ago that only the best-selling and popular books would be reprinted, and that pretty much everything else would fade into oblivion.

the mouse is trying to squash the "legends" universe as much as it can by over-saturating the market with new crappy material to be considered canon.
