 No.11852

Is Darth Vader overpowered in the new comics?

 No.11861

Don`t think so. I guess it`s the opposite, the non-comics that put him as an useless robotic cripple.

 No.11863

>>11861

This. It's one thing to say the suit weakened Vader, it's another to say Vader can't do anything.

>useless robotic cripple

That's pretty much what Lucas intended to be Anakin's fate.

 No.11867

this is typical vader stuff, actually.

Notice how Vader in the marvel comics does little sword fighting and relies on the force a lot. That's his real advantage against the hybrids competing for his spot.

I think he's reasonably strong

The only time he actually looks weak is when in the star wars comic he fights Luke and can't subdue him. I guess plot armor was against him there

I've always hated how the Force is displayed offensively in general.

There's no subtly to it, It makes it all seem so trivial.

Remember when Darth Vader choking somebody from across the room was genuinely fucking mysterious and terrifying? Now it 's all just hah hah I used my psychic powers to blow up ur y-wing lol.

i haven't read that comic, but it seems to be like vader was just pissed at that rebel, and rather than take him on in a fair fight he said fuck it and blew his ship up.

 No.11896

>>11895

Technically Vader of the comics should be able to do that but in that particular scene he was using the force to blow up some torpedoes fired at him.

The power of the force keeps getting more and more ridiculously OP, to the point that being able to crash Star Destroyers with "Muh Force" was considered canon.

He's not just asploding up a ship, I'd imagine he's basically force crushing some super important internal competent (like the ships equivalent of a gas tank or something). Given how good of a pilot/mechanic Vader is, its not too much of a stretch to say he knew which part of a ship to crush to do the most damage.

ITT: Vader using force crush is now OP even though thats been his schtick since Empire.

Also using the planet's own gravity against the Star Destroyer.

>He's not just asploding up a ship, I'd imagine he's basically force crushing some super important internal competent

You'd think he would have used this technique at Yavin.

Though this is besides my point anyways. The point being that there is nothing interesting about it. It's just the same psychic powers with big explosions that we've seen a million times before. I don't know, maybe I'm just pissed at the way Vader is presented in this comic. Throughout the movies Vader is depicted with a certain in-humn refinement. Remember that scene where Vader chokes out Ozzel through the tv screen, he doesn't even move a fucking inch in that scene. Part of what makes his presence so imposing and intimidating is that he is rarely shown making any real human effort, which is only enhanced by the fact that we never see his face (until he's redeemed), it's like he's beyond all that menial shit.

Throwing him into a contrived situation like this that forces him to take action just seems to undermine what makes Vader interesting in the first place.

>ITT: Vader using force crush is now OP even though thats been his schtick since Empire

What exactly does vader "force crush" in Empire, other than people's throats?

 No.11930

>>11904

tbh, don't mind the saberthrow since its something Vader actually did.

 No.11931

Vader just redirectioned the missiles/torpedoes. He "caught"them with the Force and threw back. If Palpatine could throw those senate pods like pebbles, not the end of the world to Vader just alter the course/deflect of a salvo of torpedoes.
