>The film does open with a lightsaber in space. It falls to the ground in a savannah environment during the day. It is quickly discovered by a farmer named Naka. Naka accidentally ignites the weapon and starts a fire with it. At first he runs, but then turns around and obtains the weapon. I assume he snatches the weapon so it is not destroyed in the fire. Naka then takes the weapon to his elder called The Vicar.

After the defeat of the Empire, the war is not over. Splintered Imperial forces remain active, while the Rebellion has not made a clear (or morally clean) transition to rule. There is essentially a galactic Cold War happening.
Imperial soldier FINN (John Boyega) defects to Tatooine; there he meets scrap collector REY (Daisy Ridley) and her droid BB-8
Daisy’s mentor (Max von Sydow) points them toward a larger destiny involving a lightsaber that is connected to the now-absent Jedi.
That lightsaber leads to HAN SOLO and CHEWBACCA, who take Rey, Finn and BB-8 on a galactic quest to find LUKE SKYWALKER
Luke is supposedly in exile, guarding a Sith tomb (or some sacred site) for which Finn’s lightsaber is the key
Meanwhile, an Imperial commander (Gwendoline Christie) is on Finn’s trail for defecting
A pivotal character (Domhall Gleeson as Luke’s possible son) is acting as double-agent against both the Rebellion and the Empire, in order to stop super weapons possessed by both sides
And a Darkside user named KYLO REN (presumably Adam Driver) will be hunting down the lightsaber and its wielders.

Rey and Finn are aboard. The Falcon is shot down by Kylo’s ship. The Falcon crashes onto the snow planet’s surface. Kylo and his troops track down the ship and Stormtroopers board it, followed by Kylo. Kylo walks into the cockpit of the Falcon and sits in the pilot’s seat and has a moment. That’s the hero’s sphere. You would never see Darth Vader do that. But Kylo does that. There’s almost an implication of remorse, maybe frustration, in that action to me. There’s emotion there. To me that says there’s a connection between Kylo, the ship and its pilot. It is almost as if he is sitting at the desk of the job he felt he would one day hold and now due to circumstances never will. Maybe Han is his father? We know this relationship ends badly though. He sits in the man’s chair before he kills him.

guys, i realized something the other day.
episode vii truly will be nothing more than a fanfic-tier movie at best. i've been saying this since they announced the title, but it really came through to me.
why?
well, let's break down a regular sw film to understand my point better. each film has a bit of a formula to it in terms of the plot, score, film techniques, bits like that yeah. all of these can and will be replicated in tfa for sure, but the core of what makes star wars different are the things that influenced george lucas' directing and writing style. the films of akira kurosawa, 1950s science fiction serials, classical adventure tales and irvin kershner's teaching. jj abrams doesn't have any of those to refer to, and as such none of those will be found in tfa. now it's well-known that the hidden fortress had a big impact on the original film, but unless you're a serious autist like most of us are here about star wars, only then would you notice the little throwbacks that george put into the prequels as well. even in the fucking prequels, where all george had to do was basically tell us what we already knew, and he still found ways to throw in references to what got him started in the first place. abrams isn't going to do shit like that, and going by star trek, we'll get some silly shit that will either work or make you cringe. tfa is purely built off the stories and characters of the ot and eu, and thus will be no better than the force unleashed. so with this post i am officially lowering any expectations i have for the movie and will simply sit back and hope it isn't a complete disaster, because if they really aren't having luke in the movie until the end then it's a fucking waste.

Part of what Lucas did was take directing influences from those old serials, not just story and visuals. JJ doesn't seem to be doing that, it's going to be slick modern Hollywood with shakey cam. The best he could do is watch how Lucas shot the original movies and emulate it but he's already fucked up with a flashback scene and those shots of the Falcon on Jakku.
