You're thinking too much.
If we were logical about this, ,we would see that the light saber is pretty much just a cutting tool and in a high tech world, you can get one easy as pie.
But sense.. Star Wars is trying to tap into mysticism,, the light saber gets invested with all the meanings and value of sword.
Back in the iron age, a sword was a big deal. (sure it's just a cutting tool) but it's a very difficult to make cutting tool, and due to them being made by craftsmen they were not interchangeable mass produced things.
So for story telling, that light saber becomes a sacred relic or some shit.
