I think it's creative, it can open up to new plot possibilities, but isn't it going to oversaturate and casualize the image of the lightsaber ? Isn't this why the lightsaber is exclusive to Jedi ? Because it's such an elite weapon ? Aren't we going to get too much lightsabers onscreen ?
