I like to think that Darth Maul had a hidden objective during Episode I; an undercover bodyguard to Queen Amidala.

The reasoning is a.) Amidala was crucial to Palpatine's initial plans. And if she died for some reason, her successor may not go along with what he says.

And b.) Maul really had no other reason to trail them to Tatooine. He was just looking to make sure that she wasn't killed by some sandnigger or kidnapped by smugglers.

He went to Tatooine to kill the jedi, fam.

I like to think Admiral Ozzel was working for the Alliance, or a sympathizer.

He dismissed the probe droid out of hand, tried to talk Vader out of going there, and brought the fleet in close to Hoth, warning the rebels and getting the shield up.

R2-D2 was working for the empire the whole time

he informed the imperials they were taking the escape pod to try and find obi-wan on tatooine

he informed the death star they were close to leaving and requested that the falcon be tracked with a beacon

he transmitted luke's arrival to bespin

he transmitted the shuttle's arrival to endor

Why wouldn't R2 just cut out the middleman and tell the empire that Luke was on Dagobah?

 No.8096

>>8094

And why would he reactivate the Falcon's hyperdrive at the end of Empire?

 No.8098

>>8088

This. If Admiral Ozzel supposedly didn't believe that what the probe discovered was the Rebel Base, why did he feel the need to use surprise against them?

 No.8099

Vader also tells Ozzel he has failed him for the last time when he kills him, implying Ozzel had a long history of things going wrong while hunting the rebellion. Was this on purpose?

If he was a spy or sympathizer, Ozzel was the bravest fucking guy in the galaxy, doing a Columbo routine with a homicidal maniac to safeguard the rebellion.

Why? He had no reason to go after them, other than some personal "fuck the Jedi" beef.

 No.8102

>>8101

If anything, killing the Jedi while they were still on the mission would have probably convinced Valorum to get off his ass and do something about the Trade Federation. Which would have fucked with Sheev's plans.

All of this is just reminding me how incoherent Episode 1 really is.

no service on dagobah

because there was no point for them to be captured by the empire again. they were tortured once and gave nothing up, a second go wouldn't do much. also, since by that time luke had escaped vader's grip, vader needed someone to keep an eye on him.

remember that whole "what about the reports of rebels massing near sullust?" R2 transmitted their location, but also that it was a ruse and that he was part of the strike team and that's why the death star had their shields up when the rebel fleet showed up.

 No.8104

>>8103

also, luke had like 0 jedi training at that point, he needed some basic shit before he could be delivered to the emperor.

on top of that, it gave yoda's location, which was of course reported as soon as r2 found out where they were headed. that kind of ties in with one of those old "palpatine killed yoda" theories.

>Palpatine killed Yoda

I'd like to hear more about this.

some old post i saw on a fan site, it was either theforce.net or bffc

basically, it kinda follows the "palpatine killed padme" theory as well, like palpatine would basically reach out to the force and drain the life of random individuals to keep himself young and fresh. i'm amazed i even remembered this much of it, that was almost 10 years ago i read that.
