So turns out the Sonic Boom cartoon is actually good and got me interested in playing 1-3&K.

I plan on emulating them.

Should I have anything in mind or know anything beforehand?

Is Sonic CD any good?

CD is a really solid game. The time travel game mechanics add some replay value. It was my favorite sonic game as it had a certain feel that the other genesis-era games lacked. The fucking SegaCD add-on was expensive as fuck back in the day but it was worth it for that game alone.

Another fun game is Sonic Chaos for the game gear. It had an emerald hidden in every stage that you have to find so it doesn't feel as linear as the other sonic games.

I didn't really like SB because it lacked the feel of adventure it had in other Sonic media. It has its jokes, but that's about it.

Sonic 1 is okay; The green hill zone is a great stage for going fast, but you start getting more slow and platform-like in the later stages. Sonic 2 improves their stages a lot and lets you run more. You can also control tails with the player two controller, but lack the flying or helping Sonic flying. But in Sonic 3, they have that and more. Bigger stages and items to use. Tails and Knuckles are a lot fun to play than Sonic in Sonic3/K if you feel like explore rather than going fast. Same can be said about S&K's, both characters have their own paths to play through which is cool. Sonic CD's okay, plays like an advanced Sonic1.

I personally hated CD. Thought the PC port is amazingly good though. Fixing some of its more blatant flaws, has saving, tails mode and access to the American and Japanese tracks.

S3&k is my go to game. 1 and 2 are great as well. I would recommend just playing it all in order. CD and S3&K are kinda rivals for the top classic sonic game [or sonic game period].

1 is the slowest paced, 2 is all about FAST, S3&K is more balanced with a bit of both, CD is more about exploration. Try em all and see how it goes.

The Android/iPhone ports are pretty good. HD resolution with more characters and a new stage in the case of 2.

Emulate the romhack Sonic 3 complete, it includes 3&K and you can set options for sprites, physics, level order, and music you want to use
