The Advance games were good and Rush & Rush Adventure are probably my favorite handheld games from the series, sure Sonic 4 was pretty dull but Episode 2 made up for it, and the rest of their games were ultimately just mediocre. (Though I've heard the DS version of Colors is pretty good, haven't tried it myself yet.)

Am I missing something here? Is all this literally just because of Sonic 4?

Dimps invented boost to win Sonic and popularized the idea of GOTTA GO FAST over actual skilful platforming. This shit even moved over to the mainline games after '06 bombed and killed the previous 3D gameplay style (which was much closer to Classic Sonic).

tl;dr: Dimps is for casuals who think Classic Sonic was actually about GOTTA GO FAST
