Hey, /storytiem/. I'm trying to find at least one good and motivated writer for my game.

Everything a writer would need to know about what I'm looking for, how to see the current content, how to apply, compensation, etc, should all be here: http://www.playlewd.com/blog/?p=460

I really need some help finding writers. There aren't a lot of places I can find to post to find people that can handle what I'm looking for. If any of you can, give it a shot. Or if you know someone that is a great writer who would like to help make a great game, send them that way.

Hey I remember seeing this game before. I think it was over on /d/ or something. It was when the demo was fucked and you hadnt put up aa notice that it was fucked. good luck with your game bro!

dd57b4 No.29177

I updated the Patreon bot to keep people's pledges and how much they've contributed updated to their LEWD account.

http://www.playlewd.com/blog/?p=502

Also had to do implement some things to deal with people stealing. 'cause you know, who cares about supporting someone working so hard at something. May as well abuse Patreon's poorly implemented system to steal. :/

>>29069

Yeah. Not sure what what was messed up then exactly, but I did post it on /d/ before.

>originally make game available for free

>switch to requiring payment

>complain when people 'steal' it

>complain about 'stealing' on the internet

So yeah, this guy is a massive fucking shill and refuses to accept any form of criticism. I strongly suggest anyone considering throwing money at this project avoid doing so, because it's only a matter of time before he cuts and runs.

Great game. Noticed it a while ago posted on fenoxo's forums. I didn't know something like this was/is possible with html5.

Though, monetizing the game in this early stage was a mistake.

dd57b4 No.29181

>>29180

Thanks. There's a ton more possible with html5

http://www.playlewd.com/game2/ <- Some rendering I was working on to do deferred rendering, and to make 3d models look like sprites (to get a Ragnarok Online sort of look, but to have the wealth of animations including procedural animations that you can more easily get with 3d models, among other things)

http://www.creightr.com/demos/voxel/ <- Some voxels and procedural generated terrain I was working on. But I would have to put a serious amount of more work to make the rendering efficient enough for longer draw distances.

But I'm keeping things simple for this game so I can get something made and get lots of content in it, since content is what matters for this sort of game.

I am not monetizing it early on, though.

I spent 2000 hours making a new engine and tools before asking for any money so I can get the content in it that it needs now that the engine is ready.

The tools make it 100x easier to add and script content than it is to add content in something like TiTS that doesn't have a tool and has a weird and time consuming API on top of that.

The game had an average novel length in content in the prototype. We doubled that the first month and a half into the alpha on top of all the discussion and storyboarding we've done on our dev forums.

Everything is ready to go. Just need the funding to get content added as quickly as possibly.

>>29179

Yeah because seriously, why abuse Patreon to steal something instead of simply waiting a month for the alpha to be out and free?

I can somewhat understand people torrenting paywalled stuff. But to just get privileged access to a test server when you can just have a little patience play the improved and more polished alpha for free in a month?

I'm not saying monetizing is bad, go ahead set a price, make a good game and people might notice its worth it. Problematic is the way you turned the game from open alpha to supporters only. Two things come to my mind, First people without playing the game don't exactly know what they get or if the projects ever will be succesfully finished.

*a lot of unknown people think that crowdfunding their idea is a good thing and maybe they are successful, but a lot of people fail because folks don't trust a noname making a System Shock III (or something like this). *

>I am not monetizing it early on, though.

>Yeah because seriously, why abuse Patreon to steal something instead of simply waiting a month for the alpha to be out and free?

The other thing is that you failed to communicate, that the games going to be free later. If I look through the Patreon and HP page

I hardly find evidence about it.

P.S. Complaining about pirating won't change a nugget; at best people are just going to dislike you for complaining.

>>29181

>http://www.creightr.com/demos/voxel/ <- Some voxels and procedural generated terrain I was working on.

nice work. Is this completly self written or based on voxel.js? I Don't know very much about web game dev. most html5 games I played are technical weak. I guess a lot of people still prefer a big stable well known environment (Flash). It still takes some time for html5 to be a game changer.

>Problematic is the way you turned the game from open alpha to supporters only

I did *not* do that.

I created a prototype in 8 weeks in the past. That was not alpha.

Now I'm making the alpha, and that's, yes, temporarily closed from the public.

This is analog to, say, SuperHOT creating a quick gamejam game and then crowd funding a proper full game of it due to the interest. Just because people got to play their quick gamejam game for free in the past doesn't mean the full game that takes a lot more development time is free, and especially not so when the proper release isn't near complete and is all internal dev builds.

Except that LEWD is free, just not until a stable and polished release of the alpha is ready.

>The other thing is that you failed to communicate, that the games going to be free later. If I look through the Patreon and HP page I hardly find evidence about it.

With all that's going on, I didn't realize it wasn't prominent. I should have it on the info page.

>>29320

The procedural generation for the terrain and such is mine, but voxel.js turns the points into the blocks. That's why it's so inefficient and I'd have to write something new. There's lots of possibility optimizations and better ways to render that voxel.js just doesn't do.

everything "playable" is an alpha; Prototype can be everything from a tech demo to a full fledged game, but this is just a question of definition.

>This is analog to, say, SuperHOT creating a quick gamejam game and then crowd funding a proper full game

the difference here is that gamejam games aren't prototypes and still playable after the gamejam.

Some people might hear about your game, checking out your website. They see the paywall "aw sad, but I don't spend no money on porn" and never come back.

So they don't get to test, if its maybe worth it to spend money or come back later to check it out when its free

>With all that's going on, I didn't realize it wasn't prominent. I should have it on the info page.

finally thanks … I 'd also recommend to put a text when a non baker tries to play the game (I cant specifically currently say where because your server ist down)

"currently the game is in closed alpha. Check it out later when the game is open for public. Can't wait? support me on Patreon and get alpha access <link>"

>the difference here is that gamejam games aren't prototypes and still playable after the gamejam.

Well the difference here is that I made an "mmo", so to keep it up would cost me extra every month since I need an extra server for it. Why spend more money just so people can get something for free, instead of making them wait a measly 2 and half months?

And worse than that, they'd be playing an old prototype that's not representative of what I'm doing now.

Don't know if you've noticed, but Kickstarters and such, for example, do far worse when they have a playable alpha/demo or something, than if they just have information and pictures.

People are terrible terrible at not getting what "alpha" and "unfinished" mean, even if it's a comparatively very good one.

People think a stripped down demo or an incomplete version is far too representative of a final product than it ever is.

And I mean in the case of LEWD, it could be years before it's a "final" product since it can keep building and building, but needs support.

A big update is up. This is the 6th major update in less than 5 weeks, and I'm getting close to a stable alpha release. More detail is here http://www.playlewd.com/blog/?p=519

There's also been a lot more content added. Maybe I'll start doing monthly content update recaps or something.

Most things are almost in order now, except for some more efficiency stuff I need to do to get my costs lowered. Hopefully I'll have the stable release out at the end of this month and the next month or two I can put more time toward adding new features and neat stuff that I have in mind.

Engine changes:

-I did some major recoding that increases efficiency on both ends (a lot less data will be used, as well as less wasted CPU and memory on the client to handle some duplicate network events that could happen.)

-Added some preliminary code to handle some client caching and instancing of things that can come up repeatedly, but it's not fully implemented.

-Also a lot of stream lining of APIs on both ends that further reduces the amount of code that needs to be written to achieve things, including a client API fix that would sometimes make unnecessary calls when game objects are updated, which lowered performance.

–This also helped fix a lot of issues in general, namely with restoring save states.

–Server also sends a lot of updates in batches to improve both network and client performance.

General:

-Fixed a bug with the phallic symbiote sometimes not counting as a penis when it should… sort of (see known issues)

-Fixed an issue with the writing parser that would be problematic with falsey values.

-Fixed equipping and unequipping clothing not working correctly on a restored save. (would still show a top as on when topless, etc)

-Fixed underwear and other previous items not restoring with the restored save.

-Fixed a new issue where sex traits weren't showing as checked on a restored save.

-Fixed the "more info" link on the game connection screen not actually doing anything.

- http://www.playlewd.com/tracker.php now shows dates for the updates.

I didn't meant it as a solution for your case. There is no real comparison for your case, considering the unconventional circumstances; Crowdfunded single html5 developer erotic textadventure mmo … .

There are a couple of things that come to my mind that might have been a more succesful approach, but I also can think of some reasons you averted those (e.g. I wouldn't be suprised if you made other stuff before, maybe some successful, but you don't want to screw your name/reputation with a erotic game).

Hindsight solutions aside, it's to late now anyway.

>Kickstarter …

sure. There always will be crybabies and people thinking, early access is just for playing the game before everyone else. Investing a coint doesn't make them the boss, but critics, even bad ones are valueable. Many just don't know the weight of their suggestions.

Kickstarter and affiliated aren't the holy grail. You have to sell your idea and keep the monkeys called audience entertained. At the start of the campaign it doesn't matter if you sell a royal meal or snake oil. But your chances are better with good product in the long run. People will appreciate it.

Yes, there isn't really something comparable.

People suggested Patreon and it fits since this is a game that can constantly grow as people put into it.

Plus there's lots of games on Patreon that require $10 or $15 a month for access. Just little RPG Maker games. I made this myself and I'm giving a good deal to the writers, so yeah.

And yes, this is definitely not the first thing I've made.
