I say DS9, even though the first two seasons were kinda slow it helped you to worldbuild and get a feel of the characters. The whole aspect of having a stationary (no pun intended) location of most of the action was awesome. The politics, intrigues, relationships and action really made the show shine. And everyone knows Dukat is best man in the entire franchise, fight me IRL bro

100% this. Also, DS9 had the best wrap up for the characters. TOS got cancelled, and TNG had the characters doing what they always do in the end, which was sort of comfy, don't get me wrong, but not as good as DS9. Voyager had a relatively simple wrap up, basically just "we're home!", and ENT also got cancelled.

What's more, DS9 had the best characters. Both because they made the best characters, and they brought back the best from other shows:

>Dukat

>Garak

>Martok

>Worf

>Kor, Kang, Koloth

>O'Brien

>the list goes on and on

DS9 is best Trek, hands down.

Dont really agree with the wrap up tho, Sisko just magically became a prophet (even tho they kinda built up to it), dukat and winn dies in the cave (sort of pointless), O'Brien just leaves because why not, Garak gives up and of all fucking ferengi Rom becomes Nagus (just why)..

438e38 No.1789

>>1788

True, but my basic point is that they put more effort into offering closure to the show. Plus, a number of them did make sense. Sisko's ending was admittedly dumb, but like you said had build up. O'Brien's made sense, he went through 15+ years of anomalies, war, and galactic chaos, when he only ever applied to be a transporter chief, then a maintenance man. So giving lectures at the academy was probably like a breath of fresh air for him, plus he had kids to look after. Worf's also made sense, his ambassador position lets him spend time with Klingons, without spending too much time with them, since he never fully fits in anyway. Odo returned to his people in their big family goo-ocean. Also, Dukat died because he was the hero we needed, but not the one we deserved, he was just too good for this galaxy. Winn died because she was a bitch, so I had no problem with it.

I don't think judging series by their conclusions is really fair in the case of TOS, because the way it was structured didn't really necessitate closure in the first place.

All the Treks besides TOS are just such a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, they did some incredible world-building, but at the same time I think that focus on the setting often tended toward self-indulgence and navel-gazing. TOS, fundamentally, was a framework for presenting interesting science fiction scenarios- setting up a small core cast of characters and then throwing moral, ethical, and philosophical dilemmas at them. I feel like in the later shows the heavier emphasis on the setting and characters frequently got in the way of the science fiction.

DS9's characters and overarching plots are great, but you could throw those characters and main plots into a sword and sorcery fantasy setting and you wouldn't lose much. DS9 deserves a lot of credit for its characters and story, but I think TOS wins out as far as actually being a science fiction show.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the "good ones" are the ones getting votes. Although, I've never seen The Animated Series. On a scale of 1-10, where would you guys put it?

When I was little, there was only TOS, and it was amazing. I'd watch it every night on the local CBS affiliate while I worked on my paintings or drawings.

When I was a teen, there was TNG, and it quickly captured my heart, no matter how humdrum some of the episodes were.

DS9 became my favorite until the race bullshit started with Avery Brooks. I felt disappointed and a little betrayed that Star Trek suddenly wanted me to feel bad about something I'd had no part in in the first place. Bashir was a superhuman, Jadzia was murdered and replaced by a petulant child, and Worf couldn't stop sucking dicks. O'Brien wasn't allowed to hate "the Cardies" and Jake became Black Wesley. Quark somehow becoming a fully functioning female (and it's implied he slept with that guy) was just the crap cherry on the shit sundae.

Voyager was always shit, no matter what.

I tried to love Enterprise, but it just didn't have the chops. They needed a more dynamic captain than Scott Bakula. I knew it was doomed.

Now, in my 40s, I'm watching TOS again on Netflix and it feels like coming home.

My favorite is Star Trek.

>>1775

>and for retards

I think you meant "for children" there, OP. It wasn't a dumbed down Trek so much as it was a much smarter Saturday morning cartoon for kids.

Eh.. I saw all of the franchise in chronological order so I saw TAS right after TOS, and I basically just did it so that I could get on with TNG, it was kinda fun to see some Hanna-Barbera comics with Star Trek theme and characters, but on a scale 1-10, probably a 2

438e38 No.1822

>>1792

I wasn't placing my vote solely on the conclusions, because it would be unfair, seeing as neither TOS or ENT were given proper endings. I was just pointing out that DS9 has the best conclusion compared to the other treks. I was really just adding a bit to the reasons given by the post above mine, since he had already pointed out the main reason why DS9 may be the best Trek.

>but I think TOS wins out as far as actually being a science fiction show.

You're probably right about that. Even when the episodes sometime seemed silly, i.e. Spock's Brain, the show always stayed true to its intended purpose: exploring the unknown as well as the known. The franchise lost a little more of that with each new series, especially when they began to rely too heavily on time travel plots, like in VOY and ENT. I still like DS9 best, but you do bring up some solid points.

I mean >>1776 explained perfectly why DS9 is the best. I put TOS in second because even if it's not the best, it's definitely the comfiest. You can feel just how much quality and thought went into each episode, and leaves you with a huge nostalgic feeling after finishing it.

The last episode/movie of any Star Trek I saw was maybe five years ago and discovering this board is really encouraging me to rewatch everything, especially TOS. I really hope the activity it has now doesn't die.

I'm pretty sure it counts as canon because of Arex and M'Ress showing up in EU works back when you had to get strict approval for everything. I must admit, though, that I'm a little pissed that we have to rely on the fan-made voyages to actually see Arex sitting at the helm.

Barring of course all doctor related episodes or episodes where somehow they salvaged something into something.

The only thing I wish ds9 had done was had trois mom have one FUCKING good episode like troi did we she was captured and used her abilities to perform a real role instead of just a counselor. Like freeing betazed from the dominion. I know a book fucking did it but that could have been good.

you might think me crazy for wanting a good episode but I read snippits from the book. I think it could have been a good dark episode where the people of betazed decide to start telepathically killing the dominion. Making a grim dark choice to use there powers against a foe intent on conquering and enslaving them.

See They really neded trois mom to be scaled back at least 20% and I think she could have been alot more likable. Its not like nurse chaplain was terrible. Just trois mom was not restrained enough.

I did like the episode where the dad from that 70's show invaded voyager and was intent on changing history.

I think The entire concept of voyager being 100% cgi killed it. They should have used CGI yes for alot of it but they should have used real ship models as well and blended it so that voyager could have had some fucking change.

The ships damage should have been a constant theme low supplies good times bad times. They needed to kill off chars and adopt new members into the family of voyager changing the ship into something else.

Voyager was so fucking cool of a idea -cries into a bottle.- They did nothing THERE WAS ONLY ONE EPISODE WHERE THEY CONSIDERED UPGRADING THERE FUCKING WEAPONS.

Jesus christ Why did janeway go no we cant use borg tech even though its better rip it out and dismantle it even though we could use upgrades.

They threw in some line about conduits literally being the only upgrade. Not shields…or weapon mods. They could have made a good action show With federation stuff as well being alone isolated.

>Why did janeway go no we cant use borg tech even though its better rip it out and dismantle it even though we could use upgrades.

>members of DS9's writers room reunited to tell the story of what would come next — and details of a fabled season eight, episode one will be made public thanks to a new documentary, What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek Deep Space Nine. The documentary — which will feature interviews with cast and crew — launches an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign Thursday to raise money for its completion.

We are required to license from CBS Studios any Star Trek images or footage that we feature in the film, which means the more we can raise on Indiegogo, the more great DS9 moments we can get into the film.

Sounds like they had already settled on the amount they needed and included it in the goal.

I truly pity you sir, it seems reading through this thread I didn't realize you were handicapped in the brain department e.g. (Retarded). ¯\_( ° ʖ ° )_/¯ Only someone like you can take issue on the smallest of reasons to troll another person, only someone like you that shall I say suffering from what I can only guess is Autism and can have a issue on name tagging, 'hey Dickhead! You have a nametag its called your ID: number!' Oops, sorry Anonfag didn't you realized that? i.e. (yours is ID: 082165) The reason I use a Nametag was for one: 'a bit of fun', and two: 'to stand out', and you with the handicapped brain might take issue that, but in the end who gives a fuck what you think! Going through your retarded ramblings you mentioned something about (shitting in pools?), Nah, I just like to peeing in yours and I'm fresh out of chlorine, lol ( ° ʖ°)╭∩╮

Your the kind of simple fellow that reads a book, knows what every word in the book means, but doesn't realize nor understand the meaning behind those sentences. And for example I quote you on 08/07/17

>When I was little, there was only TOS, and it was amazing. I'd watch it every night on the local CBS affiliate while I worked on my paintings or drawings.

>When I was a teen, there was TNG, and it quickly captured my heart, no matter how humdrum some of the episodes were.

You see, the point I'm making is that you watched and probably re-watched and those episodes of TOS and TNG and still turned out to be a bigoted dickhead, "So sad", your like the blonde chick from Stratos who Spock likes. Droxine simply couldn't grasp a very simple fact in her own world, and she also liked to follow rules, just like you. ( ° ʖ °)

I mean apart from the threat of the Dominion in DS9, the Borg are the one that came closest to wiping out Starfleet, Because once they've taken over your planet, you can kiss your race Goodbye.

We all know the deep reason Picardrones hate Voyager.

Outside of Voyager and some words, we have no idea the size of the Borg.

Voyager, over the course of several episodes, completely fucking invalidated every victory the Federation ever had over the Borg, by making it very fucking clear that, at any time, the Borg could dump hundreds of Borg Cubes, Spheres and other vessels and shitstomp the entire Alpha Quadrant.

It really is a case of "I don't want to beat your ass, Im just fucking with you".

For the Feddies, the day they sent a Cube through your territory was an existential crisis, a single Cube wiping out whole fleets, making the entirety of your Quadrant shake in fear.

For the Borg, it was a Sunday drive to just look around.

Picard and company are no longer the final ultimate badasses. They are cute mice with spunk, amusement. Nothing more.

TOS had some good-looking women with the soft lighting and very short skirts of the time, which stirred things in me as a young lad.

TNG had Dr. Crusher and Troi, two hotties. Love the redhead, and Troi's curves were smokin, and I only fell in love with them more when she was among the first Trek actors I saw in person at a convention. She knew what she had and flaunted it.

DS9 had that Jadzia girl who I thought was very pretty in a model-like way.

Didn't really watch any others, but of all of them, 7 from Voyager was simply sex personified, that skintight outfit, boobsboobsboobs!

So by a slim margin I have to go with voyager because of all of women, she's the one I most would like to bang.

If anything Voyager made the borg a whole lot less fearsome. It was always kind of understood the borg could easy obliterate the federation if it tried.

The Borg from BOBW were adaptive to anything, not just energy weapons. The danger with them was the hive mind could devise solutions rapidly and fabricate them quickly. Voyager made them just have phasor resistance + 8.

They also made the borg for some reason not procreate, but rely purely on assimilation to expand. The initial version had borg infants, implying they grew drones (which would only make sense).

The borg were pretty silly and unserious as an enemy after Voyager's run. Like most things Voyager touched (like Q), it made them worse.

I don't hate Voyager, but it's definitely at the bottom of the stack. I liked it when it was originally airing and I was a teenager, but later on you watch a bunch of episodes of the other series, and then you see some Voyager and realize that these are in different leagues in terms of quality, and that they speak to different audiences. You're not sure why you feel that way, probably because the negative feeling is the sum of myriad details. You need an "SF Debris" to autistically comb through it and pick all the nits for it to become clear.

That's probably why people fixate on subpar entries in popular franchises— it's hard to understand our own aversion to it, much less explain it to others,

It might not have been clear to you, but it was obvious that the Borg were massive and had tons of cubes and had a massive reach even during TNG. There was nothing that ever said they only had a few cubes. In fact in First Contact Riker asks how many cubes they are sending. The Federation was at the edge of its space, and so sending multiple cubes wasn't practical.

Voyager was in Borg space, where they would have tons of cubes.

>Yeah. I understand why someone who cares about canon a lot would not like VOY

I don't know about "canon." Like, I'm not super autistic about things staying true to the universe, or even having characterizations be strictly consistent from one writer to the next. I saw one SF Debris video and it pointed out how nonsensical the characters' motivations are within one episode. Faults on the level of basic fiction writing, without even going to anything Trek-specific.

>I remember that more than one time I thought the episode is gonna go full socjus, only to end up doing the opposite. Like when the δ-nigger cried about muh incarceration rate and when they let him send a letter, his δ-nigger friends attacked Voyager. We definitely won't see anything like that in STD.

lol. I'm thinking the PC-ness of the '90s series was just well-intentioned nerd notions of actual equality— hence the deviations from the libtard script. And now it's going to contrasted vividly against the explicitly anti-white animus which Star Trek: Venereal Disease is going to spew forth until it's fifth episode cancellation.

89f79b No.5557

Im saying TNG cucks are being absurd.

TNG just gave some words and some hints. Barely even that. It even implied that a single Borg Cube was a serious incursion. A serious no nonsense effort on the part of the Birg. TNG even implied a computer virus would have done fine.

Voyager shat all over this notion with the mere mention of hundreds of Cubes from a survivor and evicdence of a Transwarp conduit capable of transporting vessels across the galaxy in mere minutes.

Nothing the Borg did in TNG or TNG movies were serious efforts. Voyager demonstrated that at any time, the Birg could arrive in force, slaughtering and assimilating at will and transwarping away if they feel even remotely threatened.

And lets be real. Ten Borg Cubes would have smashed the entire armada of ships present at the last battles of the Dominion War.

b1a2d4 No.5646

>a borg cube was a serious incursion

It is, because they were so much more advanced than the federation. It was never implied anywhere that a single borg cube was a substantial amount of the borg's power. In fact, it was implied the borg had assimilated hundreds or thousands of worlds. The borg sent a single cube because they thought it was sufficient to send a single cube. They rated the entire Federation as only being worth one cube.

You're arguing because voyager encountered hundreds of borg ships and survived they became more fearsome, which makes me question your logic.

>virus

Because it was a collective. It was because the entire borg collective is connected in a hive mind, so they believed a paradox shape might break the whole collective. It had nothing to do with there being a small amount of cubes.

The '90s series, meanwhile, are good in different ways. TNG had sperg appeal and was my stand-out favorite for ages for that reason, but DS9 had great characters and a riveting storyline, and Voyager had a really nice rack for the last four seasons or so.

This is about what I'd expect because a lot of people started with TNG and skipped TOS entirely.

The mirror universe episodes were the worst, and they usually are, even when DS9 did them.

I don't know why dorks love the Mirror Universe trope so much when it's just silly nonsense that never goes anywhere worthwhile.

How likely do you think it is that all of the people who voted actually took the time to watch every episode of every season.

I'm not necessarily saying that TNG isn't the best, but maybe for a certain visible age group it happens to be the most referenced and best known Trek series?

> Which one is the best Star Trek series?

I would argue that all Star trek series had good and bad episodes as well as good and bad seasons, except for STD wich is objectively shit.

>TOS

The original, effekts suck but story is decent and political correctness not a issue.

>TNG

Decent effekts, but some episodes are just boring while others are awesome.

>DS9

Same as TNG untill the dominion war starts

>VOY

Doesn´t have many that good episodes, but not many that bad episodes either.

>ENT

First season sucked, but it got better season by season and was killed off too early.

>STD

Sucks more than worst episodes of first season ENT so far…

Nearly all the mirror universe episodes in everything but Enterprise was usually silly and just for chuckles at best. Enterprise appears to be the exception where they should have just based the entire series or at least a season with that instead.

There was talk of doing a mirror universe season, or at least half a season in Enterprise.

Then maybe it's for the best ENT was cancelled.

So many bad ideas would have come to fruition, they probably would have opted for some campy Mirror Universe season over the Earth Romulus war. Yep ENT just had to be put down like a dog with rabies, it could only have gotten worse.

Every single one of the older generations are stubborn and reluctant for new series in their 'beloved franchise', many people from TOS didn't like TNG, many people from TNG/DS9/VOY didn't like ENT, many from the original series didn't like DIS, it is just about adapting to the new series and incorporating it into the franchise.. and most people know that the first and second season in any ST series will be uncomfortable but will get better as worldbuilding and character development advances, so I am hopeful for the future of the DIS series

It’s funny how soyboys who are obsessed with seeing a talentless negress and Spacey’s cumrag make out with dudes have no defense against how awful it is, except that it will get better as long as they continue to watch it. Season one of TOS was fine. TNG improved only because they took it away from Roddenberry. DS9 was good when they started introducing larger arcs like Babylon 5. Enterprise was always shit because the premise is fucking stupid.

So no, Star Trek shows don’t ‘magically’ get better. They get better because there was always an adult at Paramount who understood what the hell to do with Star Trek, and eventually the producers would give the show to him. Now? Nobody is going to stop the pozz. All the old hands are doing the Orville where the last kikes who care about quality have all congregated.

Their best bet would be to get the Axanar guy, but they won’t. They are going to stubbornly insist things will get better because like you they believe in magic and that as long as they have social justice plots and throw code snippets from trannies up on the screen eventually blacks and humorless feminists will change their media consumption patterns and watch science fiction.

just like with all the #MeToo hysteria ruining as many leftist "good guys" as catching problematic shitlords and republican politicians, their fuckery is now biting them in the ass. STD is not going to "get better" after a few seasons like TNG. It can't. It's a serialized show. There is no 'reset button' to mash at the end of each episode, which enables them to iterate from episode-to-episode, season-to-season. That show works like one big giant movie. It's what many Star Trek fans and normie outsiders thought they wanted in a new series but had no idea of the risk they were taking if the show came out shit. This show came out shit. Now they're stuck with it.
