Now that Codemonkey's paying attention to the board again I would like to bring up the return to Unix filenames which hasn't happened yet, probably for a wide variety of reasons.

Why I would like them back:

1) Organization of files by date, and having to individually name each file for a non-ugly file is a pain in the ass

2) Tradition; unix filenames are something of a hallmark of imageboards

3) Sheerly to spite the sperglord who insists filenames are not broken and that people having problems with Save as original filename… even on Chrome or Firefox and Windows 7/8 are using "meme browsers"/"meme OSes", and spamming will magically make those haters go away

>Unix filenames

What has Unix to do with the 4chan-like filenames?

Seriously you should be naming your files and putting them on categorized folders. I figured this out too late and now I have ~1000 files to categorize.

This way when you need to respond you can do so quickly.

Which is why the site was dogshit slow until they implemented Alacrity, and after they fixed the board_stats fuckup, a pull request which was reviewed by both Ron and Fred btw.

Here's the answer: the board_stats fuckup made posting a little bit less bearable. Fred, in his asshurt, decided to blame Josh, even though the site was still dogshit slow for a month after that. And, some further sanity, if that were the case then why implement Alacrity at all? Board stats fixed, right? No issue.

Save as original filename as well as going back to Unix timestamps, which the website still does on a basic level (The screenshot tool displays Unix timestamps instead of the deduplicated filenames so how the site appears to the actual technology behind it uses Unix) and is perfectly possible to do while keeping the deduplication method. Near-instantly Codemonkey claimed to be batting around ideas to make deduplicated filenames work with Unix timestamps and somebody actually already had a proof-of-concept method of doing so to be merged into the source-code, and then CM never made mention of it ever again.
