Why wouldn't you shoot yourself in the heart instead?

I try not to judge but I really do get the nagging feeling sometimes that people who live in countries where guns are extremely easy to access don't really want to kill themselves. I know it's probably not true and is a bad thing to say, it's probably because I'm jealous.

Vincent Van Gogh did that, the poor fucker had to endure unbearable pain while walked to the neighbor house (I don't know why, because that house was many blocks away) and then shot himself a second time, to die after a long agony hours later. My advice is that you look for something with enough explosive force to make a hole as big as a fist, don't leave anything to chance.

The head is your consciousness which you want to destroy. Aside from romanticising that or trying to get straight at the place that's causing you pain most people would think it's naturally a quicker kill if successful. It's hard to even work up the nerve to kill yourself, you don't wanna feel the pain so it's a risk vs compromise thing.

OP, you face similar issues in blowing through your chest (hit the spine, get paralyzed; be an idiot and miss the heart, huge scar on the chest; succeed but live through a bypass, have extreme brain damage due to the oxygen loss (just like people who actually suffer through heart attacks)). In fact, the statistics are worse in blowing through your chest compared to your head (if that chart is to be believed).

You will not survive a shot to the head without immediate medical attention. Shotguns are cheap, too. Won't be enough left to fill a beach bucket.
