I've been suicidal for a long time, but my girlfriend broke up with me and the only thing I cared about enough to remain alive for is gone, so guess it's finally time.

Does anyone know how effective tying a plastic bag over one's head is? Given the lack of advice I've seen on it, I thought I'd ask first. I'm mostly concerned about a risk of brain damage in case of failure (assuming lack of oxygen messes with one's brain and can cause you to remove the bag), but I'm otherwise fairly certain of my resolve and don't think I'll remove it. Is there anything I should know? I'll admit it's my easiest option at the moment, but I don't mind searching for a less risky (?) form of death.

this method is tricky because the instinct to survive will cause you to rip the bag off as soon as your body senses it might die. gasping for air basically causes the body to panic and flail and you just kind of freak out (even if you desperately want to stay calm.) it might work if you take sedatives or something, but there's still a good chance those instincts will kick in anyway. plus the bag might not seal properly. lots of chances for error here.

helium or nitrogen are potentially better options to use w/ a bag because the inert gas is less likely to cause the panic reaction, but you need the right equipment and to set it up perfectly. and yes you could end up braining your damage w/ these methods due to lack of oxygen, assuming you get the bag off. i suggest reading through the threads here. good luck and godspeed.

Nice ID.

Lack of oxygen causes brain damage so there's a risk of that. Besides that, this is hardly a painless method. You'd spend up to three minutes sweating and choking on carbon dioxide. I doubt you'd last long enough to lose consciousness.

If you want an easy way out then light a disposable barbecue in your room, piles clothes outside the door to stop any gas from escaping, enter the room after ~45 minutes and inhale a few times. You'd be out in seconds.

keep in mind that the BBQ method is also risky for others in the vicinity because it could start a fire. but it'd be ok in a car that was parked in a desert or something.

tbh there is no truly fast, 100% reliable, easy-to-obtain method. it's down to personal choice, the things you have available to you, and the risks you're willing to take.

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't sure how strong the survival instinct would be. I'll stick with a more conventional method, I think.

No worries; I didn't need a 'painless' method, but thanks for the advice. Re a barbeque, I'd rather a method that didn't stand a chance of killing others, but thanks anyway. ツ
