You're wrong in that cutting can also be a form of self-punishment. I do it because I deserve the pain, the deformation/ugly scars. The endorphin rush is a close second and I hide them 24/7. Anyone would be disgusted by what I've done and I'm not interested in their attention or pity.
If you're going to succeed in suicide by cutting, wrists are a stupid place to do it. There's a very small window where the artery is nearest the skin and it's surrounded by ligaments, tendons, and nerves. You'd have to cut vertically in the right spot initially and then horizontally once you find the actual artery. Cutting there is insanely painful and bleeds like a raped virgin making it nearly impossible to distinguish between tissue unless you have a tourniquet on it beforehand.
The best place to cut for maximum damage is the inner elbow where there's generally only skin, a bit of fat, a nerve, and the brachial artery. There's much less tissue between the skin and the artery so a horizontal cut only needs to go down a 1/2 inch or so. Even with the very close nerve, cutting there isn't nearly as painful and it doesn't bleed much until you cut the actual artery.

His parents later sued the heavy metal band Judas Priest and said their music encouraged the suicide attempt. The interviews with Vance will likely depress you. Well, I used a mask AND I failed to check my seal for even the slightest leak, so it didn't work and I just gave up on it. Got caught the next morning, went to a psych ward, etc and so forth.
Now I'm left to my own devices again, but aiming for the helium method again is very risky. Firearms are the go-to, the bad part is what you leave behind. If I do go out with a bullet it'll be from the heart. Even if there's a lot of blood left behind from such a wound, blankets and shit will hide most of that when found. Better that than a pile of brain chunks.
The helium/nitrogen method DOES work, but you have to be calm and careful when testing and assembling. Preparation is as much a part of the battle as anything else.

I could go out to sea on a cheap inflatable/RIB, then use pills, slit my wrists both ways, jump in and have fun dying in the cold water. Sharks were spotted here last summer too! Or there's always getting lost without food in a forest (combo). Pretty easy to do when I am determined and have completely made my mind up. Or just going anywhere that will be deserted for about 2 weeks. Fucking sailing to France proper, why not, and it's probably easier than you think so it's a win-win.

Regular (no drop) hanging, like they do in Iran, is excruciatingly painful, because the rope prevents you from inhaling and exhaling, so you get the panic/pain of CO2 buildup before you die.
A better way to do a regular hanging is to use a cord or wire to put pressure on your carotid arteries, called a suspension hanging, like that Swedish kid did in the suicide video. With that, you basically lose consciousness within seconds, and the lack of bloodflow to the brain causes the "death" part.
My chosen method is inert gas asphyxiation, but if I had to use another method it would be suspension hanging.
