Ballistics are completely dependent on the load. The Brass Fetcher youtube channel did apples-to-apples ballistic gelatin comparisons of high powered rounds, 9mm vs 45, and the 9mm rounds kept up in terms of energy transmission, wound channel, etc.

That being said, I'd go with a deer rifle (308 or better) or 12 gauge shotgun with slugs. 50 cal muzzle loaders are cheap also.

9mm is basically the weakest bullet out there, and handguns have the weakest bullets of all different types of guns. So there is a very high probability you will wake up retarded in a hospital if you attempt this with a 9mm handgun.

You're probably dead or a vegetable, but you should aim not too far back towards the throat or too forward. That's why it gets difficult to get it right.

A bullet aimed straight to the ear is, from what I've read, best.

Combine it with the ligature method. Look around there are threads on both of these topics.

You should be able to trade it for a 12 gauge shotgun, that will do the trick. Unless you are too young.

you want to shoot through your mouth for sure, not directly back through your throat/neck, but a little bit up, so you're aiming at the back of the roof of your mouth if that makes sense. aiming through your mouth towards your ears would do it as well. you definitely don't want to shoot straight up in your mouth either, that might not be fatal.

you are aiming for the brain stem, you will be clinically dead instantly the second your brain stem is severed.

any bullet would be sufficient for this. 9mm would be fine as long as you aim correctly, the only point of using a shotgun is that you can't miss.

If you want to be sure you are going to be dead, best to combine the shot with something else that is fairly quick (so you won't be discovered and saved). partial suspension hanging or 60+ foot fall onto cement should do the trick.

/k/ here, aim through the mouth and use something other than a 9mm. It will work, sure, but it will likely be extremely painful for you and a prolonged death. As long as you aim right, there's a virtually 100% success chance but it's gonna hurt. You can make a homemade 12g shotgun for less than $15, I would recommend this infinitely more. Load it with any given 2.75 inch 00 buckshot and go to town.

I remember reading somewhere (might have been here or some other board) that the best way to aim for this particular area is to put the gun in your mouth and then imagine there's an imaginary line coming out of the gun (i.e. the path the bullet will take). Try to have the line going in between your ears - this way you'll be more or less targeting the cerebellum.
