 No.20526

What is your opinion on sexualization in games?

Do you think it feels uncomfortable, or is it just harmless eye candy?

 No.20527

I definitely like it in my porn games. I don't like it when it kills immersion in others. And I really don't like it when I feel like I'm an idiot being pandered to.

 No.20532

It's not something I mind, but it's nothing I would buy a game over.

 No.20578

I see it the same as sexualization in every other media / advertising, it's there to draw attention and it often works.

Personally I don't care either way but I hate seeing games censored over it.

 No.20585

>carrying over this daily bait thread from /v/

Can you not? The answer is that it has exactly zero impact on anything, and the answer will stay the same.

 No.20680

I hate fan service. I am not offended, I just hate being treated like I can't watch a show with tits to keep me entertained.

I also don't get Quiet's design. Ignoring the justification, she is very over-the-top as far as sexualization goes. She's jsut wearing a bra and has some really creepy shower scene in the game.

 No.20687

It's fine until it starts to bring down other parts of the game. And in this day and age, easy, sex sells tactics are the easiest ways to make a buck and this shit always pops up.

Marie from persona 4 is a shoehorned character who people will defend becaue "muh waifu". Also enabling persona 4 waifus to encompass all of persona and SMT. We probably got #FE because of persona 4 which took away SMTxFE from me and I will never not be mad about that.

Lightning from FFXIII was shoehorned into everything. Taking out learning about a potentially interesting universe to making lightning god of the universe and giving her her own dress up sim.

Another example is Valhalla Knights 3 where they could have spent development time improving aspects of the previous game but decided to add a pointless waifu dating sim on top of the buggy game.

I didn't like the redesign of Zero suit samus with the glowing high heels. giving the excuse that she needed rocket boots when every other character can already jump 100 feet without high heels. Someone at Nintendo was getting their dick wet taking liberties with designing characters when they should have stayed true to their designs, like any good crossover should do.

I've thought about this a lot. Personally, I love it and am completely okay with it.

What I am not okay with is making sexy characters less sexy and vice versa.

>>20687 gives a good example with Samus. I'm extremely buttmad about Samus being sexualized, and for me personally, Other M pissed me off a lot. Samus is not supposed to look like the second pic, that's just sexualizing a character that is good enough,

So to recap, I'm perfectly okay with sexy characters. I'm okay with extreme bust, prostitute looks, anything. Literally anything, I don't care at all. But if you *change* a character to be less attractive to not piss off SJW's, or you make a character more sexy to appeal to Chads, that makes me angry. I want the characters how they're supposed to appear, sexy or not- I do not want waifubait blobs.

I've always thought the Zero Mission redesign was fucking stupid personally and was made solely to pander to catsuit fetishists. Vastly prefer Samus's bombshell appearance at the end of Super personally. She looks tough and sexy, instead of only one.

I have no problem with scanty outfits or sexuality in general, but if it goes far enough in a video game, I'll be left with the impression that the game is using sex to keep me playing, which is a huge turn-off. Nothing worse than just trying to play a game and having a giant pair of breasts throw onto the screen to indulge my primitive side. Its insulting. Ninja Gaiden comes to mind.

Additionally, the sexualization can be a red flag that a developer needed a crutch to make up for their mediocre game. Games like Atelier and Neptunia scream this to me. Would anyone play them if it weren't for the girls? I haven't played either, so I can't say for sure.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with giving a character a nice body. It doesn't break suspension of disbelief and it can tell you something about the character. Jill from Resident Evil 2002 is a great example.

 No.20839

I dislike it, but I very obviously really fucking hate SJWs who criticize it. For me it's more because it's a distraction and kind of degenerate, and if it's deliberate fanservice then I know I wasn't really targeted with it and it's not my place to criticise it; another, more numerous audience was targeted and thus they take priority. It would be my opinion against theirs, so I know it's not universally recognized as bad thing and thus should probably not be criticised by those wanting something else

 No.20886

>>20526

Done well you could definitely have sexualisation that improves a game by fitting a character or serving a story or gameplay purpose in some way.

Obviously if it's done badly then it could make a game worse (I imagine there's a lot of people who find the design of some sexualised characters out of place or silly regardless of whether or not they thought the sexualisation itself was objectionable.)

Nothing wrong with sexualisation for the sake of sexualisation unless it makes the game worse in some way.

Honestlly I don't mind some sexualization, in games like the older Tomb Raider games its not to the point where its a major distraction and makes me stop playing the game thus forcing me to masturbate

In games like DOA, I end up fapping rather than playing the game itself.

 No.20989

I like it. It's a neccessity in any 3D game that features females. For first, it pisses off the SJW/PC crowd, and that makes the devs uninfluenced by abhorrent shit like genderfluid trannies in muh game. Especially in the modern age, it shows they don't give a fuck. For second, this means the game's target are young heterosexual males - the only group that really plays video games and cares about game quality. The salt, you could say. Those two points are (one of reasons) why Ninja Gaiden for example is such a stellar game. I'm never bothered by skimpy females in my vidya, since I have no primitive urges, but they're needed in my games to ward off undesireables.

 No.20995

>>20989

But old heterosexual males have increasingly become a major video game demographic as young heterosexual males grow older.

 No.21002

Depends on how it's handled. I can look past it in DOA4, for instance, because of the gameplay, but when it's so front and center that it's hard to ignore, it can be a little much.

 No.21006

Perfectly fine with it unless it break the tone, theme, immersion, etc. - bonus outfits not included, they can be as out of place as they like - or there's an obnoxious amount of it when you're trying to enjoy the main draw of the game and the sex wasn't it.

>>20687

Mostly seems like the corrupting 'waifu' issue in Japanese media where they're created to pander, not so much be sexual, but they could both be present in cases.

 No.21007

>>20995

True. You could say they're still kind of young at soul, though. The old ones often stop playing video games seriously and either leave them or just peddle in casual shit.

 No.21207

Why even call it sexualisation, isn't that a feminist term? Are these characters asexual as long as they wear a niqab?

Wearing skimpy clothing does not turn characters into sexual beings, they always were regardless of clothing.

Please stop using their words. It gives them power because they are framing the debate.

How about "titillation" then?

My problem with sexualization in vidya is how fucking censored it is

Seriously, this shit isn't even PG13-tier, you don't actually see anything

Sex in games like DOA/DOAX its incredibly childish, its what 6-10yo me thought was erotic, which is basically a chick with a really revealing cleavage, but then again you have movies for 13yo kids with near-full frontal nudity and games for 17yo kids with all kinds of violence but if one, ONE pair of tits shows up everyone, every shithead religious nuts and every no-life harpy feminist cunt goes bananas

How the fuck would these retards react to a game featuring actual sex and nudity? something like (pic related) all the porn SFMs? they would flip the fuck out saying kids can see this shit but lets be honest: its most likely that a kid will watch 2 guys spitroasting a black chick for free on some porn site than spend $60 bucks on a game they can't even buy themselves

As for the sexualization, again its just kiddie-grade, like why would quiet go around nearly naked in a fucking desert where women are completely covered up? and you could say "well everything is over-the-top in games" but games are getting more and more realistic while sexy female outfits just get dumber. Even armor in AssEffect was shaped to showcase ass and tits with female chars, its just dumb

But that is again because you can't show actual sex because of censorship, the sex scenes in those games are fucking lame, 1990s softcore porn was more graphic. So of course they have to compensate for that by showing female chars that look nothing like a women in that situation would like and dressed in incredibly unpractical outfits

 No.21211

>>21210

Yeah the childish aspect is probably the worst part about softcore vanilla sexualization in vidya for me. It's really what makes it feel so insulting.

To be honest, before GG/SocJus/modern feminism taking offense to everything, I used to dislike sex appeal in vidya. It might be my modest upbringing, but whenever I'd see a vidya character in a sexy outfit or pulling a sexy pose or otherwise doing anything to get my dick hard, I would honestly cringe. The though of a game designer purposefully implementing such things to arouse me was really a turn off.

But in the light of third wave feminism and the supreme over-reaction to non-problems from "Damsels in Distress" to "Women as Background Objects" I've learned to appreciate it. Of course I'm a little older and wiser now, and I know that porn is more or less intentionally designed to so I've sobered in that respect.

Regardless. I would rather live in a world of over the top sexy vidya than a world without because angry non-gamers got their way.

This is something that I always had found funny about this whole socjus thing. Before the likes of anita and quinn, I was more on their side of views, probably half-brainwashed already, who knows. But once their bullshit became so blatant I've found myself thinking more and more opinions that my former self would have discarded as "misogynistic". Apparently a big chunk of my friends circle has been rejecting feminism after the socjus cancer metastasized .

There is a good chance their stupid crusade against vidya has given the largest blow to feminism to date.

 No.21381

I started playing vidya at 3

That was the early 90s

I'm in my late 20s now, don't see any 1yo playing games

On the other hand there was nobody above 18 playing vidya when I was a kid, the only exception were the ones selling it and they weren't that much into it

Today you have 40yo gamers and 30+ gamers are the average age not kids, nuff said
