They're not a majority. The problem is that they have power, via the vote, via universal suffrage, and they vote based on emotion and fear instead of logic and reason, and that makes them easy to motivate to do things.
Combine this with the fact that more of those people are women than men, and the fact that even normally reasonable and rational men lose their minds when it comes to women (I just lost a friend over a woman), and you get where we are today.
Just look at the temperance movement, MADD, the outrage over rock and metal music, roleplaying games, the list goes on and on. Almost all of these things were instigated and lead by women, because if a man did half of the shit that those women did they would have been ignored and/or beaten.
