My Nero Burning Rom 12.0.2 is acting up. After a program restart it has a new fucking USELESS toolbar with "disc content" and asking me if it's a CD/DVD or blueray and I can't seem to find out how to disable it. Used to look kinda like pic1. Now it's like pic 2 (rom.jpg). And I don't think it did an auto update (same version) and this thing appears even with my internet connection disabled. Dicking around with the toolbars didn't help, I can't even right-click that thing.

Furthermore half of the screenshots of the thing have it, half don't and googling just gives me garbage results.

Plz hlp. It eats up two entire rows of space. And I trust /tech/ more than I trust their support, I've dealt with them before and they can't tell their ass from their elbow.

Google Chrome...

Sends the name of the file you're downloading to Google for whitelist checking; stores your IP address associated with the file for a few weeks.[1]

Every URL you even begin to type in the address bar is sent to Google, in whole or in fragments, for auto-completion purposes.[2][3]

Connects to Google every 30 minutes to download a list of malicious URLs, so the fact that you even have Chrome open is transmitted to Google.[1]

Asks you to login to your Google account, so your browsing tabs, history, etc. is stored on Google servers.[4]

Connects to websites in the background before you are even finished typing them in, without your explicit instruction.[5]

Contains an RLZ identifier, an encoded string sent together with all queries to Google.[6]

Summary: There is nothing, nothing, you can do in Chrome that isn't transmitted to Google through some channel.

Short version:

How can I download and parse a file via Javascript like with curl?

Long version:

I'm sick of 8chan not showing a thread's page count properly past page 2. I decided to look at https://8ch.net/tech/catalog.json for reference, and noticed that the oldest thread is, sure enough, at the end of page 2. I made this quick script in bash to get a thread's page count using the html file instead of the json file.

curl https://8ch.net/tech/catalog.html | sed "s#\"#\n#g" | grep "/res/" | cut -d'/' -f4 | cut -d'.' -f1 | while read thread; do (( index++ )); var=$[$[$[$index-1]/15]+1]; echo $thread-$var; done

I'd like to edit 8chanX to incorporate this (in a cleaner manner, obviously) and match the thread numbers to get the correct page number. Is this possible?

Though this leaves the question: When did this change, and why? Will complaining to the cripple be a better method of fixing it?

First you are going to need a exteranal fashing tool, Libreboot users would have some proper suggestions/

Then you would need; a non backdoored firmware/ libre fimrware avablie a backup of the current/ previous firmware as a backup.

Then make shure any data on the media is backed up.

Finally flash the libre/ non nackdoored firmware.

I made sure the wires from the PSU were secure in the mobo as well as from the monitor to the PC and the issue was still there.

I think it may be an issue with the motherboard because when I tried to hold the power button down to shut it off, there was no effect. I had to unplug it from the outlet to shut it down. However I'm no expert which is why I came here.

I also noticed some bulging capacitors, could that be the issue? I was planning on watching a YouTube video to see how to replace them as I know it's bad.

E.g.

dd bs=4096 status=progress if=/dev/sdXx of=partition-name.iso

For this example

Xx = sda1 , / so it would be root.iso

Make partitions on the noteboom of equal size or greater to the ones on the PC.

Then use dd to clone the .iso onto the partition.

E.g.

dd bs=4096 status=progress if=path_to_iso of=/dev/sdXx

For example root.iso, sda3 is / on the notebook.

After that create a home partition.

I tried posting this on 4chan's /g/, but I got no straight answers due to faggots asking questions about what distro to use, memeposting and edgy archfags bashing ubuntufags.

So, I wanted to play some games that require 3d rendering and because I installed Xorg and everything manually, I thought that maybe I had to install OpenGL manually (even on Windows, if I remember correctly, you have to manually install DirectX). So, i tried to check first if i had it and ran

$ apropos opengl

and came up with nothing. I also checked the repos and found no package that might be it. I tried running some games anyway and they were working fine.

Do most most distros come with OpenGL preinstalled, or is it somehow included with Xorg? Or did my package manager automatically install it as a dependency to something and why can't I find it? Is it just some invisible library? Shouldn't there be documentation for it?

I'm interested in what it is exactly and how do I find it in my system. If it's a driver, what's it's name, is it running like some binary kernel module in the background, should I see it with htop? How do I know it's there (besides stuff dependent on it working, thus proving it's presence).

Btw, how is it on Windows, does OpenGL come preinstalled? I played some games that require 3d rendering on windows without installing DirectX, so there must be another rendering engine present, right?

Are Molex to SATA converters safe to use? I want to hook up an extra hard drive to my old computer but I don't have any free SATA power connectors coming from my PSU. I do have however a couple Molex connectors. Would a simple converter work or do I risk blowing something up?

So, to me, the easiest and most idiot proof solution to my problem seems to be to just install Tox in whonix.

Would this be adequate? Can I just install it in Whonix and it'll be good to go? I've tried reading up on it myself, but as I said, I'm far from an expert, and I'm not sure I'm fully understanding what I'm reading.

I'm following a roguelike development tutorial in Python, running Linux Mint. We're told to download a library, libtcod, and extract it somewhere, then place some specific files in the directory of our program.

I tried this earlier and the shell complained that it couldn't find libtcod (perhaps I had opened the window before I'd put it there), but now I have all the files I need, and when I run my program, the code executes without a problem, but a window should display and it doesn't.

http://www.roguebasin.com/index.php?title=Complete_Roguelike_Tutorial,_using_python%2Blibtcod,_part_1_code#Showing_the_.40_on_screen

That's the code I'm running (though with a different font, since I'm on Linux). What could the problem be?

P.S. the website linked to me a libtcod download, but it lacked a certain file it specifically mentioned to extract in your program folder. So, I searched for it, and downloaded it from elsewhere, and now I have it in the folder with the others. I don't know if this is relevant.

Uh, not really much for web stuff but I use a lot of regex and crap. Maybe try a modified version of the first script. Look at the length of the html encoded "you" and do something like

s/.....(You).............//g

You can throw in * for a 0-infinite multiplier on your search pattern and tie it to the beginning and end of the html section for it.

Example: s/<url=.*(You).*<\/url>/(You)/g

I dunno how its set up though and the "URL" is just filler for whatever code block is used in html. Apologies, I really never touch anything web related(even html) and I'm writing this on my phone. If you want, you can post a single (You) with the numbers of the post edited to ##### for privacy and Ill post a script later tonight. Are you sure that your code and the tutorial's code coincide? Try just running their code. If it works, then something happened in your code and you should try diffing them. If not, maybe you need to reinstall shit.

I'm going through that tutorial too, and it's notoriously confusing when things go wrong. Make sure that you maintain the same order of things throughout it, if something goes awry again, diff not yelling at you about things being out of order makes it easier to troubleshoot.

Also, did you pull your .so files from /usr/lib{,64}, or did you download a tarball containing them? If it's the latter, try copying the files you need from the former.

I've been following the same tutorial. I didn't have that many problems when I started, so I discarded most of it from memory. But, when I did it, I grabbed libtcod.so from the 1.5.1 tarball off of Bitbucket. In addition, libtcod also depends on SDL, but since SDL is installed by default on almost everything, I copied libSDL.so from /usr/lib. To my knowledge, you still need both in the directory that you're running your program, but where you got them might change how it runs.

You should try running the code from the tutorial, just copying and pasting it into a file in the same directory as your file, and see if it runs. If it does, there's something wrong in your code. If it doesn't, there's something else janky going on.

On my router I have the ability to change the router's MAC address (as opposed to my PC's MAC) but toying with that has done nothing, my IP is still the same as it was a year and a half ago. Hi /tech/, my technologically illiterate mother has installed a ransomware virus onto her computer which she uses to run her business so all of her files are corrupted. I know there's nothing I can do to fix it without paying the ransom. What I want to know is, how safe am I if I format the hard drive and reinstall the operating system? Is it likely that the malware can "hide" somehow in non-hard disk memory such that it can reemerge after I've reinstalled? At this stage I've decided that the best chance we have at recovering the data is paying the ransom, then moving all of the file system data onto an external disk, then format and reinstall the hard disk that's in the computer.

Have a webm as payment for helping me recover pics of my dead dad.

Okay, thanks for the tip, I'll have a look. What about my concern about the malware reappearing after I format and reinstall? I think it's unlikely that it would happen, but not impossible. Given that these ransomware viruses are primarily interested in directly turning a profit, they're probably not malicious enough to try to embed code in BIOS/Driver memory but I'm concerned that it'll come back after I reinstall.

 No.544260

>>544242

Also you would be best off to clone the whole drive before getting started. Personally I'd use a linux boot cd, a few similar sized drives, and DD

Then you have a working copy

Also if it comes down to it and you just have to recover whatever you can get, I've had good luck with r-studio data recovery software. You'd most likely only get a fraction of things, duplicates that were deleted previously, old versions of files, but depending upon how the encryption works you might find a surprising amount of unencrypted files in empty parts of the drive

If you paid the ransom and it delivered, you'd want to copy all of the important files to another drive, then sort them by danger level and also scan them with multiple anti-malware software

Images are safe, PDF and office docs less so, archives possibly dangerous, .exe and http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/execfileext.htm are not safe so you would have to be very careful with those

If you really need more reassurance, Linux has no anti-virus shit because Linux is supposed to be secure by design, security researchers are always studying the Linux source code to patch any holes in it

Linux' anti-virus program are its security trackers and contributors, things like Shellshock were actually discovered by security researchers first behind closed doors before the public was formally informed after updates were made

Even if a virus programmer made a virus on Linux, it is generally impossible for it to affect other users or fuck the system

There is ClamAV, an open source virus scanner. I will say that if I have never gotten a virus for Linux, just using your package manager and using trusted software should be pretty good.

There's also chkrootkit for checking rootkits and Lynis.

As for firewalls, you can look into ufw with gui-ufw for a simple but effective firewall.

Overall, just make sure you're not downloading shit like "hentai.sh" and running it under Root blindly. Hope this actually had useful information.

tl;dr

The people who made UNIX and cloned UNIX into Linux thought their shitty OS' were such ameture pieces of shit they didn't expect people would be using them in 2038 so they stored all seconds after 1970 in a 32-bit integer, which can only store so many values

After 2038, all 32-bit Linux installs are fucked, including your Android device

Your only hope and the only real solution would be to switch to a 64-bit Linux install that uses time_t as a 64-bit integer instead and will last trillions of years from now

You can patch time_t to use a different counting scheme or to store time in chuncks, but this breaks compatibility with the millions of *nix software already deployed and in the wild

I have two HDDs, a Seagate (that came with this desktop) and a newer, a Samsung one. Both are 1 TB.

The Seagate one is years old now, I think maybe 6 or 7, and started to click last year... now, I've been away for awhile, but when I returned I had to face the problem.

Can I "transfer" the OS from one to another without formatting the one that will "receive"? The old, clicking one (that has the OS) is partitioned in two (three, for some reason, as Windows made me do a partition with 100MB), C:/ (which has only vital programs, ~250GB) and D:/ (private stuff ~700 GB).

The other, newer, is not partitioned, and I've been installing games, music and such. Can I "move in" the OS and everything else (the Samsung has plenty space, ~400 GB left, and the first one is using ~300 gb only in total)?

I've read some articles about SSDs and such, but nothing on used HDD to another.

Thanks!

Yep. So long as you're using the same exact hardware as the previous install the computer won't recognize the difference.

Well, what do I do? Create a system image? Or just plain Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V and then never use the old HDD again?

Also, the HDDs aren't identical, if that is what you're referring to as "same exact hardware" - the rest of the desktop is the same, though, obviously.

I wouldn't try charging it with the damaged DC in jack.

You could disassemble it (or look at teardown guides) and see if the DC in jack is part of the mainboard or not. Sometimes the jack is its own little component that plugs into the mainboard via a connector - replacing these are typically pretty simple after finding someone who sells the part.

I really need help /tech/, I dun fucked it good. I'm a relatively new Fedora user and I was trying to get rid of nouveau so that I could install Nvidia graphics drivers so I used the following commands that I found online:

yum install gcc kernel-devel

gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
echo "blacklist nouveau" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

gedit /etc/sysconfig/grub
added rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=

grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub

grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub (I don't know which is used)

yum remoce xorg-x11-drv-nouveau.x86_64

mv /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r)-nouveau.img

dracut /boot/intirams-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)

systemctl set-default multi-user.target

I restarted my PC to see if it worked but now it won't boot up. It says "file initramfs.iso not found".

I've already loaded a Live CD and copied initramfs.iso to the computer, but that hasn't worked. I also got rid of the blacklists in the modprobe.d and grub files. What do?

At the most basic level: Install on encrypted drive with only /boot exposed, and preferably on a separate drive (usb flash). Grsec/PAX kernel + some form of MAC or RBAC, Dnscrypt + Unbound, install and use firejail + torify/proxychains, and of course, configure and set the defaults of all of those as well as other programs you might need (ie. iptables) as you want as well. the reason is that i want to install 2 different versions of said game and i can't do it on a single computer because you cant install both at the same time, and so far the only solution i can think of is to have a VM to install the older version, and installing the normal version regularly on my computer.

In general, running games inside a VM is very drastic inquiry. If it's a 3D game, expect some convoluted setup and hardware requirements like VT-d.

VirtualBox is very simple to use, but chances are that you won't get to run Direct3D games in it. I think VMWare Player had better 3D support but it's a bit harder to set up since you need to get a VMWare image first.

Arch. It's better than Fedora by miles, especially in package selection, it's a bit of a learning curve. Use the beginner's guide, install lightdm or gdm and lxde or gnome, or i3 if the screen is small enough and you don't mind tiling wm.

I have

>GIGABYTE 990FXA motherboard

>AMD 8120 CPU

>R9 280X

>Corsair CS750M PSU

I used to have 2x4GB 1600MHz Kingston HyperX RAM sticks and a small overclock on the CPU with a small overvolt, everything was running okay.

Then I bought 2x8GB 1833MHz, again Kingston HyperX (had to get new sticks since I couldn't find 2x4GB 1600 compatible with the old ones).

The new RAMs caused a fuckton of crashes on default settings. Sometimes just reaching the OS boot screen crashed the PC. I dicked around with it quite a lot, reset the BIOS to defaults, and I figured out that

>lower NB frequency

>lower HT link frequency

>lower CPU frequency

>slightly increased CPU&NB voltage

improved stability to the point where the PC was usable, but sometimes it still crashes at random when playing games. It does not overheat (more than what's normal for these chips). Changing RAM clocks or voltage usually made no difference.

What I don't get is why this is actually happening. The PSU really ought to be strong enough, reading forums about similar RAMs gives no indication whatsoever that people are having similar troubles, you really should not have to underclock your CPU and NB and overvolt them just to be able to use two average 8GB RAM sticks.

Any idea what's causing this? Is something potentially faulty, or did I miss something about setting the RAMs up?

That has nothing to do with site itself.

When you open a https site, your browser has to check if the certificate is valid, and if it is valid it also has to check if it hasn't been revoked. And that's done via an OCSP server, which in your case seems to have had some temporary problems.

Well, I am C# programmer, but:

Most important is improving your skills. At glanced that site seemed to be enough ok. Though buying a book would be an excellent choice also.

Note:

C++ is not suitable for novice (IMO). It's better to start with easier language like java or c# (because then you would learn things quicker). Also C++ pointers can be a pain in the ass.

When learning something, don't rush. I mean that you don't need a necessary the newest version.

Thanks for the advice.

I am going to stick with c++ because I always like to start with the harder but more useful stuff in everything I do.

The reason I want the newest version stuff is because, at least from my understanding, a lot of stuff has been added that makes some stuff simpler. So instead of learning the old and hard way things are done, I want to learn the new improved commands.

You can get a SLI/dual graphics laptop with that budget. Don't fall for the gayylien/rezor meme, I saw flagship specs of these two but they're all just meme DDR3 RAM garbage with meh-tier CPU/GPU/vRAM while origin had been selling DDR4 gen5-6 intel for so long.

Check here first https://www.originpc.com/

Most of the time the overall specs of originpc laptops are way better than mainstream overpriced memerigs that people fall easily into.

>980M graphics (without the M) or SLI (dual graphics)

...which are only found on origin PC afaik

>>547273

>learning specific language

I guess C++ is okay but you need to delve deeper here to write programs that are VLC tier (yes the all-famous media player is on C++ and C) but if you want the fast but hard route get the source code, it's FOSS and read the source code, this way you'll learn how the real programmers write programs that have real world usage unlike your typical meme codeacademy quiz

I agree to this >>547275

C# and Java are easy to learn, they have those easy training wheels for beginners called IntelliSense to autocomplete and tell if there's errors as you type the code.

Once you learn a language you can learn other languages easily because every language have many similarities.

Finally you'll have to choose between convenience and performance.

It is. Images are data, not code. When you click on them, a combination of website Javascript, browser, and system code gets executed to process the data and redraw the page. Javascript is supposed to be unable to do anything that is not defined by Javascript engine function set, and your software is supposed to be controlled by you, so there should not be any unexpected results no matter what third party data is received. In reality, code has bugs, and these bugs can be exploited to make someone else run any other code on your system by providing a specifically crafted image, but, in case of image format readers, it is a bit too rare and expensive exploit for average internet user to care about — if you have eliminated vulnerabilities to old widely known exploits by keeping all affected software updated.

Need help upgrading my computer's ancient motherboard. I'm pretty new to building my own PC and I want to keep it as cheap as possible. I don't play hardcore games, mostly pleb shit like DotA 2, Rocket League, Europa Universalis IV, War Thunder, etc. I'm running Fedora 23 presently.

Currently I'm running with an ASUS P5N-T Deluxe motherboard (which has socket 775, and PCIe 2.0), a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 450 (PCIe 2.0) and a fucking i2 CPU. I have an i5 2400 CPU but as it requires an LGA1155 socket to work.

My question is what is the cheapest way to get my computer up to scratch? The way I see it, my choices are as follows:

>upgrade the motherboard to one that's compatible with the i5 and the GTX 450

This is probably the cheapest option but I'm not even sure such a thing exists, and it may get outdated quickly.

>upgrade the motherboard, the CPU and the graphics card

This is basically building a brand new PC, which I'd like to avoid because I don't have a lot of money.

Please advise me as to what to do, I'm really concerned on the issue of compatibility.

mpv seems pretty slick.

Anyone here using it? I'm trying to rebind some keys and can't figure out how to resize the window (default alt+1/2/3)

Anyone? Should I buy some sort of motherboard that is compatible with the i5 2400 and the GTX 450? Do you have any recommendations?

I just made this function in java to try and find certain strings in a string array, I don't know if it actually works though because i can't test it right now.

Basically it takes a string "s" as the search criteria then an array "a" to search in, And then an int "n" for the length of the array you are searching through.

What do you guys think?

public class arraySearch {

public boolean findInArray(String s, String a[], int n) {
int i;
for (i=0; i < n; i++) {
if (s.equals(a[i])) {
return true;
}
}
return false;
}

}

Anyone here with experience in both Tox and VPNs?

I'm trying to use airVPN with uTox, but whenever I do it kills audio/video chat in one direction. In other words one person can transmit audio and video but not receive. This doesn't affect text chat at all.

It can be fixed by switching the VPN off and resetting the router connection, but I'd like to find a way to never have to deal with that and just have it work regardless of the VPN.

I remember some Firefox add-on that would have intercept requests for CDN files so sites would still work but you didn't need to make a third party connection. Anyone know what add-on this is?

How do I view every piece of information I can about a text file? Like timestamps, metadata, size, etc.

I feel like ls -lh isn't giving me everything. I basically want to run forensics on a text file.

I just built a new computer, and I can't get a display to show on my monitor/tv.

When I turn the power on, all the fans come on, I can hear the cd-drive spinning, but no display comes up. I tried connecting a vga cable with a vga-to-dvi adapter from the video card's dvi port to the monitor and tried connecting an hdmi cable from the video card's hdmi port to the tv, but the same thing happened. I tried connecting the hdmi cable from the motherboard's hdmi port to the tv. Nothing seems to work. I popped a disk in the cd drive and it sounded like it was trying to read it so I think the pc is running fine other than nothing coming up on the screen.

Here is the hardware I am using:

Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

Corsair H110i GTX 104.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

Crucial 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory

Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive

Hitachi Deskstar NAS 4TB Hard Drive

MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card

Phanteks Enthoo Primo ATX Full Tower Case

EVGA SuperNOVA 1000W ATX Power Supply

Asus DRW-24B1ST DVD/CD Writer

Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

This is the first computer I have tried building, so I am new at this. I might have overlooked something.

Thanks in advance

so when you have a display plugged in and you turn your PC, does the display do anything at all? Is it blank like it's turned off? Or is it blank like it's turned on and emitting light but the screen is just black? is there anything floating around on it saying "no input" etc.? Can you mess with the monitor's menu? Does its menu show up still?

Also make sure your graphics card is plugged into your mobo correctly and that it has the correct power cables from your PSU plugged into it, it should need a couple.

I had this same question and I Googled around for ages and nothing was really of help until I found one thing and even then the people there weren't that helpful.

Anyway, it's Gnome or whatever. Choose it or one of the other options, not both. Confusing wording, they should change it.

How can I get four monitors working in Windows 7 on my 7970Ghz? I have DVI (to VGA), HDMI, Mini display port to HDMI and Mini display port to VGA all plugged in.

They all appear under screen resolution settings but I can't enable a fourth and extend the desktop display to that because it simply says "unable to save display settings".

There must be some kind of hack to get around this because everything is plugged in and recognized by itself, and it works with three, I just need it to go one more.

The tv is blank like it's turned on and emitting light but the screen is black and it says HDMI in the top right corner. I can change the channel and stuff it just seems like it's not picking up the hdmi input. The graphics card is plugged into the right pcie slot and it has two 6+2 pin pci-e vga connectors going to the PSU. Also the keyboard is not working

seems ok, i think. How about if a[] is an empty string array?

I think also, that if don't need to pass length, it should a.Length or a.Count (or maybe with brackets, idk)

So are PDFs, and they often contain malware. Or what about the PhotoShop exploit from like 8 years ago? It never amounted to much cause it was quickly patched(plus how many end users use PhotoShop?). Not trying to be pedantic, but really any file could contain a virus if the exploit exists in the software that reads it and lets it execute code somehow.

you could test, if your parts emit electric. but for that you would need some gadgets. i think maybe a wire is broken or something in gpu or motherboard or between them

Thanks, but I already use logical increments and the trouble is that because everything on it is compatible its not compatible with my system. They have a different motherboard socket (LGA1151) to me (LGA1155) so if I wanted to get my PC to work with Logical Increments I'd have to upgrade both my CPU and my motherboard, and because of the latter also my GFX card. That's way more expensive than I want, but to me it seems like my only other option is to find a motherboard that's compatible with my existing CPU and GFX card.

Yes it can be simplified by using a.length instead.

The a array is empty It's just a variable used to hold the passed array then it contains whatever you pass to it.
