I'm aware of Intel AMT, but what else should I avoid?

Are there any Core i-series outside of first generation that don't have botnet?

 No.542834

Any intel processor you purchase is botnet enabled

You're safer getting a processor made before 2011. Which one you should get, I don't know, just get one pre 2011 because I believe that's when all processors became botnets. Correct me if I'm wrong on the date.

 No.542885

You're already 100% pwned by the TLAs, so just stop thinking you can escape it. Nothing makes you look more pleb than thinking you can outsmart 10,000s of people with twice the I.Q of yours.

I'll explain my use-case to you so you'll get where I'm coming from.

Right now I've got a small NAS box that's kept offline and a router that was provided by my ISP's botnet program.

I want to replace the NAS and the router with a computer running pfsense. This way I could route all of the traffic in my house through a VPS service that acts as a VPN (except that I would have to learn to control the server-side things a bit more). And in addition I'd be able to offer all of the files on my NAS through torrents/I2P. Sounds good to me.

So I was going to buy a mini-ITX motherboard with dual gigabit LAN and Intel's socket G2 or G1. 2nd generation core series turned out to have Intel AMT, so I found a 1st Gen Core i7 that was dual-core 2.6Ghz and 35W (which is important because this machine is going to be on 24 hours and I don't want it to gulp down the electricity. I was planning on underclocking the CPU to 2x2Ghz in fact).

Now that I've figured out I could do it that way, I'm since thinking "just buy a motherboard with USB 3.0 ports and then a bunch of usb to ethernet adapters" which I've just checked won't bottleneck too badly. In which case I could buy any AMD motherboard with usb 3 ports so I could just get AMD.

The problem I have now is finding a non-botnetted AMD CPU that's still powerful enough, that's still got 35W (or less) power consumption.

This is where I try to pretend in spite of all of this shit I'm still a neckbeard wizard when I'm really just a fucking idiot who just hates intel because of all of the shit they've pulled.

>Wireless interface adds a layer of difficulty.

>Wireless more secure for once?

Limitations of IME and AMT when using a wireless interface:

>"Wireless management interface disabled by default. The wireless management interface is always initially disabled, even if valid wireless profiles are configured in the ME and Intel AMT is enabled. Wired Intel AMT interfaces can be enabled by default at the point of manufacture."

>" Power-state sensitivity. As mentioned above, the wireless Intel AMT interface, like the host wireless interface, is powered down when the host is in low-power states. Thus, the key value of wireless Intel AMT connectivity pertains to its ability to connect to machines with non-functioning operating systems, as well as to isolate malware-infected systems from the rest of the network. The wired management interface remains enabled in all power states, as long as the host machine is plugged into a power source."

Well, two of my computers' processors are botnet free.

Intel 80486 486DX2 66MHz

Intel 80586 Pentium 60MHz

I also have an AMD K6-2 300MHz processor on a motherboard somewhere in the basement that needs to be put into a case and resurrected.

You're going to have to get a single board computer. At this point they're the only devices that haven't been completely coopted by the botnet. Use a Beagle Bone Black, the Raspberry Pi was developed by SJWs to get more niggers and wymyn into STEM and its build quality sucks ass, the Beagle Bone Black was developed by actual /tech/ies who actually give a fuck about open source and durability. Performance will be shit, but here your priority is not performance but instead security.

How does AMT actually get network access? Is there some known interface for NIC vendors to implement which allows AMT to utilize the NIC, or what? And if this is the case, why don't we just have a single generic networking driver for all NIC's supporting this interface?

 No.543220

>>543052

I already have both a beaglebone and SJW Pi. The former I bought so that libreboot flashing instructions would be easier to follow, and with the latter I bought into the media hype that surrounded the original model B. They mostly sit unused on a shelf. I was going to use all of these underpowered computers to simulate customer terminals in a library system. I could play around with PXE boot and other shit that way. I'd recommend Odroid C2 as a "daily driving" SBC. If it's not entirely free then it's 'mostly free' I think.

But I want hardware that's powerful enough to handle VPN traffic through pfsense. For that reason I'm looking at low-power AMD. But I'm not sure it's going to compare well in terms of price/benchmark when compared to Intel Atom. The power to dollar ratio of the old Atom 330 or D525 still beats most of the SBCs on the market. But they're still weak when compared to "proper" CPUs.

I don't know I'll figure something out. And I won't be using >>543040 Intel 486 to run torrents you fucking nutter.

 No.543230

>>543083

>well its all on the same motherboard.

Not sure. Could there be some kind of standard nic architecture that is integrated with the Intel chipsets?

>why can't we have a generic nic driver if this just werks for Jewtel?

Good question. If it works with random PCI nic cards as well as on board, then you have something here. Maybe the nic has limited functionality through AMT?

>run torrents

Get fucking taste, and you will have almost no need for BT. Fuck, the last thing I torrented was OS/2 for PowerPC, only because the direct download wouldn't initiate.

Seems like every piece of passive fiction made after 2001 is trash, and every game made after 2006 is complete garbage.

>my tastes are the only ones that matter.

I generally agree with what you're saying, but would you tone down your autism?

Also torrenting games is nice in the sense that even if the story is shit, you can enjoy the physics or other things, and vice-versa. Never having paid a dime for shitty games.

 No.543486

Downloading shit all the time is an indicator of having no fucking taste. No matter what kind of music you like, there isn't that much that's genuinely good, and this is an even more dire situation with games, TV shows, and movies.

If you enjoy dipshittery, then have fun.

You're technically wrong. It's safe to assume all post-2009 Israel Intel CPUs are botnet, including the Xeons.

Therefore, this also means that all pre-Management Engine Xeons are as safe as any other hardware manufactured back then.

I can see why you would make that assumption, though. I believe a good plurality (don't quote me on this) of the TOP500 run on Xeons.

Since the backdoor is hardware, it's easy to disable with a few simple modifications to the socket. I've highlighted in red the two pins you need to remove. One is the control switch and the other is for the antenna. take a mechanical pencil and remove the lead, slip the hollow tip over the pin and gently work it back and forth until it snaps off. be careful not to damage other pins, you can use tweezers too, but they need to be pretty small.
