Fuck that noise... there hasn't been a car vaguely up to my standards made since they discontinued the Roadmaster in 96-ish. Even that had a couple airbags, OBD2, and complicated engine management. GF and I both drive GMC trucks from the 70's. Tough as hell, easy to fix, only electronics is the one piece electronic ignition module which is embedded in the metal distributor housing (making it somewhat EMP resistant).

The only thing I want my OS to do is obey my commands... as long as it does its job I don't care if its CP/M.

Not all software phones home, and the software that does is usually caught in the act (which is, surprise surprise, how Win 10 was caught in the first place!), so as long as you know what software you're using and you haven't seen any suspicious network activity, you should be fine. There's less information of me being sent to Microsoft if I Win 7 than there would be if I used Win 10.

Of course I would, assuming of course that the sedan is outfitted like any regular car.

If, however, it came with "Microsoft CarOS X®" which cannot be turned off, that tracked me with GPS whenever the vehicle is turned on, and then proceeded to send that information to Microsoft and a number of undisclosed third parties, I would say no thank you and keep my 2009 Corolla. Alternatively say "Yes thank you" and then disassemble the car and sell it for scrap parts.

Except it's not free. You pay for it with usage-information that Microsoft proceeds to monetize. You pay for it with ads in the OS. You pay for it with Windows Calculator asking you to "Rate this App" in order to lure you to the Micorosoft Store in order to display even more ads.

In the corporate world, there is no such thing as "free", only "hidden costs".

I have a Windows 7 installation on its own SSD in my desktop alongside a GANOO SLASH LEENOCKZ installation on its own SSD. I boot into Windows 7 when I want to play games, then reboot and boot from the linux disk for normal desktop use.

Both system disks use full disk encryption, so the Windows 7 install can't phone home about anything on my linux disk.

I was looking for an explanation as to why Office 2016 requires a mail address to work and how to transfer a license to another mail and these stupid hindus just kept evading the problem without ever giving a clear answer. After enough browsing and tinkering I eventually figured that they do it to enforce the personal, non-transferable status of their license and to jew even more shekels by selling a database of paying Office customers to any business or government agency interested in that info.
