I know a little bit here and there, but to this day I still consider myself tech-illiterate. I've only ever learned the basics of HTML and CSS, but other than that, I'm fucking stupid.

I bought a cheap laptop specifically for teaching myself how computers operate. It's a lil thinkpad X60 with libreboot and Debian. Don't know what else to configure to make it better, but I had wanted to jot down some beginner ideas to make it mine, like ricing it or something. Suggestions are appreciated.

Anyway, where does one begin as a baby /tech/nician after reading most of the sticky and lurking? Should I read Debian's manual? I'm still unfamiliar with using terminal as I've only dabbled with linux distros.

> today

that even shonky taiwanese ripoff merchants won't give out source for shit that they stopped making 6 years ago.

> learning

hacking a laptop into a htpc and emulation console. so nearly everything about the low level.

>goals

become pc god. dissassemble bios and port coreboot to shit. mostly because I'm still butthurt about that fcc whitelist bullshit. I'm not even americucked.

> peeves

nearly every decision notebook manufacturers and suppliers have made in the past 40 years.

>>What have you learned today, Anon?

That the distro I'm using on my laptop is breddy gud, except it can't fucking display the accurate battery power on screen.

>>What are you learning?

Some gahnoo linuks basics, still a noob in general. I just need to know enough to be able to do some basic maintenance by my own.

>>What are your goals?

To build and maintain a basic website to display my work. I'm more artsyfartsy then outright tech, but I'm not aiming to be web designer. I just need make a website that's clean looking without clutter, showcase my stuff, and easy for me to update.

>>What are your peeves?

adobe flash, adobe cloud subscription model, software as service in general especially when it's poorly thought out, planned obsolescence.

>What have you learned today, Anon?

That no matter how I try to succeed, I can't win for losing.

>What are you learning?

Patience with those who are incapable of learning or adapting with speed. To explain, people who are stupid, not merely ignorant or unskilled.

>What are your goals?

To die by my own hand instead of in an accident, or in a hospital bed, paralyzed from the eyes down. Tech-wise? I want to be able to recover data from disks and tapes left to me, but every time I get everything together, the computer I'm using for recovery fucks off in the opposite direction of doing what I need to do.

>What are your peeves?

Stupidity. Pride in ignorance. Being told shit people know I don't want to hear, when I explicitly tell them that I don't want to hear about it. I don't need to hear about the dead puppy you saw on the side of the road. I don't need to hear how I missed a C64 that was on the side of the road with a bunch of boxes of cables.

I've stopped actively learning more about technology, since my engineering degree hasn't gotten me a job that literal high-school-dropout-drug-addicts can't get.

>today

Basic basic regex

>Tomorrow

Classes for python + more regex

>Goals

If I tell you I'm statistically less likely to achieve them.

>Peeves

Don't really have many, I'm a pretty passive person.

Whats the best way to learn regex, resources?
