 No.544111

Hey /tech/ newfag here. I've used 4chan/g/ for three months now, but couldn't get over how consumerist it was. Is it different here, or should I just an hero already?

Is there something wrong with migrating? How did you find this board anon?

 No.544134

>>544119

You should go to >>>/g/, /tech/ is the aspie honeypot board. Nobody posts any interesting shit outside the same 3 approved topics (tinfoil, josh, /pol/) here because you always always get some retard screaming at you for not using the sticky. This board is dead.

Thanks for the tip, friend.

If your computer isn't an old thinkpad that you found in a dumpster and installed libreboot on than you're not welcome here.

>>544134

Pretty shit description of this board but it seemed much more lively here a few months ago.

No.

>Browser threads

Be sure to post threads like these, otherwise you'll be called an autist by self-conscious /tech/ies.

What data, lmao

Oh, you forgot a few

>Windows X, amirite?

>Everything I do is great, everything you do sucks. Thoughts?

>I spent three days making sure Windows 7 is botnet, but I can't really prove it.

PS: the answer to all of these is guaranteed replies.

Now we have a feature full list :^)

That's because the amount of users coming to 8chan was higher. I can remember a year or two ago there was much more diverse discussion, information security was commonly talked about here. Still, distro threads, browser threads, etc while shit, I rather have than what /g/ talks about: phones and why linux sucks because it lacks muh games and whatever else proprietary software they use over there.

 No.544453

>>544343

>That's because the amount of users coming to 8chan was higher

Non-mainstream boards were kind of dead already back then, it's just people who keep coming out of habit realizing that it's just a waste of time and leaving, while mainstream boards like /pol/ or /tech/ turn into self-sufficient circlejerks.

/tech/ specifically is a magnet for "problem glasses" kind of people, just the nerd type, not the SJW type, who essentially drive everyone else away. These people can't program and are in general /tech/nologically illiterate, but they like to complain how "mainstream X thing is bad, everyone using it is stupid, and since I'm not using X and using Y instead, I am a superior human being". Then it turns out that Y thing is used by 10% of people, so it's kind of mainstream too in the grand scheme of things, so they switch to Z instead, which is used by 1%. Z is also complete shit but it's okay because they don't have any responsibilities and do have to be productive with it anyway.

 No.544488

>>544453

That seems like an awful lot of projecting anon.

Tech people always like to bicker about pointless details, it's almost a needed skill to be any good at dealing with machines, so that's just an accepted thing, if Usenet was full of that shit you know it's not going away.

I'll give you that this board isn't what old-/g/ used to be, I just wondered where to find a good-tier tech community and couldn't help but realize that this is the least shitty alternative.

/g/ is full of dumb consumerist fucks who can't into the most basic of things.

Lainchan has good threads once in a while but is slow and is way past the circlejerk event horizon.

/tech/ is full of /pol/, doesn't have any regular good threads but at least there are some people who know their shit in here, and i don't have to wait for a post once in a blue moon like in /lam/

Too bad we lost our board culture and people are just angry all the time. Why can't we be more like /tg/ is anyone's guess...

 No.544504

>Tech people always like to bicker about pointless details

>X is meme

>X is botnet

>X is honeypot

>X is bloated

>X is bad because SJWs/Jews

>X is autism

>X is pleb-tier

>X is harmful

>Y > X

And at best in an "argument" like those you get an anecdotal reference or two. This isn't bickering about pointless details, this is low quality baits and shitposting.

they are right most of the time they say it

It's literally the opposite, consumerists are shunned.

 No.544536

If you call everything botnet then you will be correct some of the time.

 No.544553

>>544506

Rarely, and they don't even know what a botnet is supposed to be. It has become a vague term that encompasses proprietary software, malware, adware, spyware and most software that communicates with the Internet in some way.

 No.544652

I've been browsing /g/ for over a year and it is really getting infested with normies, and it got to a point where they can retaliate when defending their gayming laptops, hating on Linux because of no gaymes, chrome, windows 10, etc...

Here you make a thread about how good W10 is and you get only saged replies saying that you're a fucking idiot

 No.544693

>>544652

This.

The "how do I fix Windows 10 botnet" and similar /b/-tier threads are ignored here. /g/ had some alright tripfriends, but they either stop posting or (hopefully) moved on to places like here.

 No.544700

>>544509

Deader and more of a circlejerk than lain.

I feel fragmentation is part of why /tech/ is going to shit.

At this point i'm just waiting for the next BBS-like subculture, imageboards had a good run but they are done.

 No.544706

>>544536

If you retard your vocabulary to memetic newspeak nigger-grunts like "botnet" then yes, it'll be right most of the time, simply due to the fact that it's hard to miss a target when one word is used for a million different things.

Chicken chicken chicken.

 No.544747

Well it is different here but you should definitely an hero.

I've already did.

What's the point of posting on anonymous imageboards when it's only you and two other fags posting there. Let's go somewhere where it's alive.

If you can't defeat them, join them, so you can later stab them into back when they don't expect it.

Are you afraid of NSA and jews?

Where do you think they expect you the least? In their own territory of course.

Almost true, you forgot the browser and distro threads.

But to be fair, there are some other okey threads, about programming or interesting pieces of software.

/g/ was okay when everyone was wearing f-91w casios and owning moto Gs/dumbphones. now, it went full blown consumerist that they'll laugh at you for not owning a nexus 6p or the latest smart watch; its like every poster there is a shill for every brand.
