Apple is part of this weird circle. We're on the bottom rung, and the "circle" doesn't want other people on the bottom rung looking at your data - this is bottom rung privacy.

But as you pass the rungs, suddenly you see that the circle will willingly share information with other folks.

So say the ladder/layer/Pyramid wants to share with X-corp - they will, without hesitation. But to protect the proles from other proles, they'll put in two factor auth. But that only stops direct access from phones, an illusion of privacy when thats just an interface to another server.
