Why aren't you using Unix?

Actually, BSD is more unix like than MAC OS X so fuck off nigger

 No.546018

i was already downloading openBSD right now to try it

but last time i tried booting freeBSD it was very old fashioned looking and i had no idea how to get the internet to work without access to the internet

Well BSD is even more unix like than GNU+Linux and might be harder for newfags like you

OS X is not UNIX.

It may have a certification of being UNIX-compatible, but the important aspects are very different.

UNIX was created as a portable operating system and pushed for simple but reliable design that is naturally extensible.

OS X is a walled garden locked to specific hardware where you are forbidden to touch things for your own safety and has an XML-based init system (so much for simplicity).

If anything, OS X is a regression in the field of operating systems.

Because Unix is actually kind of shitty for modern computers. GNU tries to fix that.

It's certified UNIX. Full certification.

To be le tru unix you have to have a license from the Open Group. That's all there is to it. The original BSD was true UNIX, but its only derivative that has the license is OSx. But it's not like being le tru unix means anything in the current year. All the le tru unixes are fully proprietary, and all of them are proctically dead except for OSx which is dogshit anyway.

Not UNIX

 No.546682

Because Linux works just like UNIX and that's good enough for me.

I've actually been thinking of giving FreeBSD a go, but I haven't had the time recently.

That part of my post is objectively true, whether you think GNU actually manages to be better or not.

GNU adds easier to remember, more consistent long options, adds optimizations that vastly increase performance, favors correctness over simplicity (which shows up in fuzz testing), and so on. It doesn't try to be just like Unix, it tries to be better than Unix.

No, that's not how it works. That's not a recursive expansion, you're just saying it a lot of times.

This is how it works:

Stop using "autism" as a synonym for 'acting like an anus/doing thing I don't like'. I'm an autistic, I don't agree with what >>546695 said. Thank you.
