Why is GTK file picker so shitty?

 No.547143

fuck you, that's why

I recently e-mailed the mate project about incorporating the gtk file chooser patches. They said if the patches were submitted to them via github they would happily incorporate them as well as commit some time to adding some features.

I have as yet been unsuccessful in contacting ahoka to see if they would be interested in doing so. As no attempt has as yet been made we can assume its' never going to happen anyway.

This is the real terrible GTK filepicker

I just drag images from my desired file explorer to the fileupload button.

Is that the guy that made the patch?

It's GPL so just submit it yourself

That's what everyone does. I have pcmanfm on a hotkey and drag & drop the thumbnails.

The worst part about the file picker isn't even that there are no filenames, it's that that it doesn't save the settings and has only three columns.

Well actually I don't think that is specified. Hence why they wanted him to submit via github, because I sent them the link to his gists.

https://gist.github.com/ahodesuka

I am aware he attempted to submit to GNOME but they stopped gtk2 development so he gave up.

It's tricky, son.

Just fucking take his code, GPL it and put it on some online repo.

Or slightly modify it so it qualifies as different code.

It's not fucking complicated and he's not going to fucking sue you.

I hate this shitty file picker too. Does anyone know of a better one to use? I always wonder why file managers don't just integrate and take of the same job of a file picker.

That's not even the right bug though.

Firefox uses GTK. In the past, people begged the Gnome devs to implement a better file picker for GTK 2, but of course they didn't and now they won't add it either, because GTK 2 only receives critical security fixes.

However, considering Firefox and Gimp are currently being ported to GTK 3, you'd expect they use the GTK file picker as well, right?

Well, guess what, they do but the file picker is still the same old piece of shit in GTK 3.

In short:
