>he hasn't bought a raspberry and configured it as his own custom router

Literally no excuse, or do you actually trust that backdoored chinkshit you're currently using?

 No.548753

I hope you're happy that your purchase of a raspi has helped girls around the world to code. Geek on!

 No.548777

I'm enjoying my OpenWRT router AND NOBODY CAN STOP ME.

 No.548793

> raspberry

> router

> he doesn't know most single board computers that do not target network applications have shitty non-fixable proprietary “if we could send an interrupt for every transferred bit, we would do just that” integrated NICs and no multi-port switching in hardware

> he doesn't know consumer router boards flashed with open firmware have been available as better option since long before the SBC fad

 No.548795

I already have one, but I haven't used it as a router. I have considered it, though.

> >one ethernet port on usb bus

Fuck, is that true?

 No.548807

Not using the Odroid C1+ instead

>Cheaper

>Faster

>Gigabit ethernet

>Fits in RasPi cases

>Same GPIO as a RasPi

This is now a Single Board Computer thread

m-my ISP only offers shit internet, so the limited 480mbps bus doesn't really bother me

This.

I will use a WRT54GL if I want. As long as I can replace my router and install free firmware on it.

Pretty sure you can't make a router from a raspberry pi.

Just make a PDA instead.

 No.548875

>>548749

>Literally no excuse

I am /tech/ illiterate. I don't understand the significance of the raspberry pi, let alone how to make one into a router.

wrt54g master race

 No.548888

I did the same with Odroid C1+ instead because I'm not a sjwcuck XD. Besides, it has 1Gbps Ethernet while RPi has shitty 100Mbps shared with USB so it never reaches even that.

>>548881

>tfw no as good updated model with faster wifi

They're really enforcing that "no nice things" secret law imposed by alien space lizards so we can't have those anymore unfortunately.

>>548861

>Pretty sure you can't make a router from a raspberry pi.

And what makes you come to that conclusion? Software routers are a thing you know.

>He wastes ~25 watts running an AMD as a router instead of a far more efficient ARM based system.

Although I don't like the fact that you have to have a binary blob just to boot the RPi.

 No.548922

>>548888

The "plus" version of C1 seems to use Amlogic and Mali GPU. Not good.

Just use the normal C1 version, with good freescale i.MX6. That's much better for freedom than Amlogic.

 No.549016

>muh usb ethernet bus meme

just use a $9.99 switch for your internal network?

Network > switch > raspberry > modem

480mbps is more than enough for your average ISP

OpenWRT is to Linux as LibreCMC is to Linux-Libre. You still have backdoors and blobs, I don't.

Oh no, those poor 2c of electricity every month

 No.549187

>>549149

u wot m8? 25 watts for 30 days equals 18kwh. Even if you only pay 12 cents per kwh, that's still 2.16 dollars. That adds up to 259 dollars in 10 years. And that's if you live in the US, in some places in Europe electricity is three times as expensive.

So yeah, I'll take a 3 watt arm board over an old pc anyday.

Switch to pfsense soon becuse i learned IOS

 No.549218

How the fuck would you use a Raspberry Pi as a router? It doesn't have the ports, and you'd only have wireless through a USB bus. That would be dogshit. You might have an argument if you were talking about building your own cheapshit router from scratch.

 No.549283

>>548749

OP you dun goofed

Raspberry's got megabytes of binary blobs that are needed to even boot the shit. that's the perfect place to place a backdoor.

The Raspberry Foundation is full of SJWs.

Technically speaking, the Raspberry Pi has ultra-shitty Ethernet throughtput because it's actually emulated Ethernet on top of a USB line.

You have royally fucked up

1 ethernet port, and that's not even included in model A. No RJ-11 slot, no chance to run WLAN card, even if connected via spi/i2c since there's still 50mA limit on gpio and you need to supply extra power. Lastly, if RPI couldn't even host simple website or LAN streaming server how do you expect it to handle IO without choking at low speeds?
