I've never really liked vampires, being the scum-sucking parasitic slaves to Molag that they are, but I am rather partial to werewolves. I'm rather surprised that there wasn't more to do with them in Skyrim seeing as Hircine is lord of the hunt; I would have expected there to be a sizable cult of his somewhere in the province, given the Nords' fondness for hunting. Instead, he was relegated to the confines of a single (admittedly pretty awesome) quest in Falkreath and a name-drop in the abysmal storyline of the Companions. Even if one were to just look at the mechanical aspects of lycanthropy in the game, it's rather underwhelming even with the ring of Hircine and the perks introduced with Dragonborn. Why couldn't there have been patrols of the Silver Hand that hunted you down if you were known to the realm as a werewolf? Why is the only negative that you don't get an experience bonus when sleeping, a relatively pointless exercise in Skyrim? Can Todd be blamed for all of this?

Pics related; I was feeling like a bit of an artsy fartsy poofter upon realising that there was actually a blood moon inside Bloated Man's Grotto.

One more to satiate my autism.

The worst thing is that you can only contract it (without mods) by joining the Companions. It just fucks over any roleplaying potential.

Honestly, like a fair few other things in Skyrim, it just wasn't given as much attention as it deserved. However, as we all know, that's the problem with Bethesda games; quantity over quality. Just look at the way you have to kill the "Great Beast" in Ill Met By Moonlight (the quest with Sinding): you just have to fucking kill a recoloured deer. Not one with special abilities or attributes or anything major, just a lighter tone of pelt (and even when you loot it you just get normal deer/elk stuff - not even white pelt).

And it's just a meme to blame Todd for everything; the team overall is to blame.

my only real annoyance is no 1st person view. there is no good reason for this. it's just a 'fuck you' to the player.

other than that, I have some ideas on immersion. there should be a "bloodlust" trait, where there is a small chance you lose control during battle and transform. every time you give in to your bloodlust, your werewolf is in 'berserk mode' for a period of time (let's say 30 seconds). during this time, you have no control of your character. an aggressive AI takes over that is hostile to everything. your speed and damage are doubled, all your attacks ragdoll, and your stamina cannot be drained. but a berserking werewolf neglects defense, so you take 50% more damage.

it's one of those "gamble" moments. your character could wake up on a pile of torn and shredded enemies, or find out, to his distress, that he mauled his companions to death, or just get killed like the rabid dog he is.

I've got first person through mods and let me tell you, it's exhilarating. The first time I experienced it was amazing, and what Aela says about your first turning being your most intense really rang true in first person.

>it's exhilarating

i know. Bloodmoon werewolves were 1st person mode and it was amazing, so I was pissed off at Skyrim for taking away a cool experience for no reason.

My problem is there is really no downside to being a werewolf. Back in Daggerfall you had to kill an innocent as a werewolf every now and then or else suffer debilitating cuts in your health points. It was a good way of simulating the fact that werewolves are supposed to be evil creatures, and not things completely under your control.

Another thing they could have done to really make werewolves more interesting is add in other forms of lycanthropy. Daggerfall had wereboars, and there are shit ton of other were-creatures in the lore, hell they even had werebears in Dragonborn, but you're only allowed to be a werewolf in Skyrim.

Also, the companions questline is just fucking stupid.

The companions questline could have been good with a little polish.

as it stands it just came off as rushed. Also wereboars are fucking bad ass. Every month when moons turn full you turn into bebop and have to sate your thirst for blood. I played the whole game as one and I never got bored.
