Rayya is definitely a nod to the next TES game being set in Hammerfell. She's a novelty, really.

Why not get Lydia? Her dialogue is pleasant - especially on Solstheim - and she's quite pretty.

The worst follow in Skyrim has to either be Marcurio, that smug cunt, or Serana - even though she's a good mage and all the forced vampire waifu shit is unbearable.

Marcurio is a pretty good mage, he's my go-to follower for tank characters who can use a guy slinging firebolts.

If I'm a mage I get a melee follower and if I'm a warrior I get a mage follower. It makes sense.

It's not that I don't like Lydia, it's that I don't want to go through the MQ at only around level 10. Even if I ruined muh immersion and seeked out Spellbreaker intentionally, I'd still probably get my arse kicked. I came across Hillgrund's tomb for the first time today and found out that Golldir can be recruited, but I thought it would be better to leave him be.

The hirelings are easy to get - 500 gold isn't a lot by level 10 (+250 if you want Teldryn Sero).

Solo masterrrace. There is no point to having followers in Skyrim. The game is never hard enough where you need help, not even on max difficulty. There is no dialogue or banter between you and them (like there would be in a proper RPG). And they're retards who get stuck in the environment, set off traps, and alert enemies. USELESS.

Maybe if you play unmodded it is, but if you've got mods like Deadly Dragons and Deadly Combat installed, chances are you'd rather have one than not.

What i find funny are the orc followers. All "tough guy"/"warrior type" lines and 2 minutes in a fight they scream from their lungs "No more! I yield! I yield!" due the shitty AI

Just modify their game files with a honey, I did that with a follower mod who was ugly as sin, I still couldn't stomach their vapid and cringy writing.

My main issue is that followers don't really mesh with frostfall or realistic needs. They don't eat, sleep, pitch tents, cook etc. When my character needs to camp to survive, and my follower just stands around all night, that breaks immersion

Also, even with horsemen installed, I still can't get my followers to fight on horseback.

developers far more competent than Bethesda can't do followers right. only time they are not shit is when you have absolute control over them. like those old isometric rpgs. but I digress; those sound like issues the creators of those mods should address.

Taleworlds does alright, but then again that's because you only really use them in combat and dialogue trees. They don't follow you around town
