Is there any evidence that men or mer can be turned into animals?

Also, unrelated, but what the fuck is up with the skeleton under the bridge to Dragonsreach?

Pic very related.

also, see

and there's probably a few more examples, I just can't remember them

There's literally College of Winterhold quest in Skyrim where the player gets turned into a bunch of animals. That Dunmer student asks you to be a test subject for her new spell and goofs it up repeatedly.

I think you mean Oblivion. Skyrim lore was B
Oblivion F

 No.1756

>>1755

The factions in Skyrim were Z at best.

 No.1757

>>1753
Gotta agree with >>1755 in part here. A lot of the flak Skyrim got lore-wise seems to have come from people who were still gun-shy after Oblivion's "transcription error" and related white-washing.

Don't get me wrong, there was some obvious bullshit in Skyrim… (Fuck safe Keening, fuck Thu'um = dragon language and fuck giving three fucking Elder Scrolls to the same fucking main character)
Just saying that we as a lore community were much better equipped for Skyrim's bullshit.

The only coherent answer to Tolkein-Cyrodiil is "because CHIM". That should never have to happen.

 No.1758

>>1753
>>1757
Keening was not a lore error
It was cracked and broken
Thu'um being Dragon language is not a fuck up, nor is it a retcon, that's just called creating new lore
Skyrim has no major lore problems other than Volkihar which is a straight up lore rape

 No.1761

>>1758
I'll have to concede with Keening, hadn't remembered that. Can't say it doesn't still bug me, but that's not important.

Pretty sure Thu'um was a retcon though. Wasn't Kyne the origin before Skyrim came out? Breath of Kyne = breath of life, so life = being big and boisterous and loud. A Nord's liveliness was directly proportional to the power of their breath, their voice. Live it up with brawls and songs and cries of war and you become a stronger Nord. It was a simple, elegant metaphysical explanation for Nordic culture before TES:V decided it wanted the main character to be even more of a special snowflake.

You're right about the Volkihar. The whole Dawnguard DLC really.

 No.1765

>>1761
Kyne is still the origin and how men learned about it
And it's still about spiritual strength and Nord culture, not to mention that lorewise even before Skyrim Jurgen Windcaller existed and it's correct that he made Thu'um a monastery thing so it was already rare before Skyrim. Plus to be honest I just like tying Tonal Architecture to Aka and all that
Dawnguard DLC was pure shit other than Falmer stuff

 No.1766

>>1765
>>1761
actually now that I think about it there Kyne being tied to Thu'um is more from Skyrim then pre-Skyrim
pre-Skyrim thu'um was a thing mentioned in Sermons, PGE and not much else

 No.1790

>>1766
Hell, maybe I have the timeline mixed up in my head. I do remember being really confused when Skyrim's Shouting mechanic was being revealed. For reference, PGE1, The Five Songs of King Wulfharth, The Arcturian Heresy and Varieties of Faith (And maybe Children of the Sky if you want to really stretch it) all associate Kyne with Thu'um. Though some indirectly, of course. PGE1 and Children of the Sky look like where I was getting most of the "Thu'um influence on culture" from.

And I'll argue that Kyne's new role in offering men the Thu'um is very different than the way it seemed to be described in the past. Thu'um as a literal expression of life as breath isn't the same as Thu'um as borrowed/stolen timespace language. Even if the Nords think Thu'um is the former, it changes the whole dynamic and adds too little to anything that existed before Skyrim introduced all that Dragon-lore. I feel like it's a solution to a problem that never existed.

THAT SAID this isn't me arguing that Skyrim was a lore-clusterfuck. Like I said in my response to the other Anon, we as a lore community were able to handle all this pretty well.

Also even though I personally don't like the direction they took with Thu'um, I do like the Tonal Architecture/Aka connection. Especially now that your namesake is so well entrenched in the collective lore-buff consciousness.

 No.1799

>>1790
eah
Actually to be honest I didn't really care about Tonal Architecture until Skyrim came up, I mean I have heard about Tonal high chiefs and all that mentioned in books, like Kagrenac, but thu'um and Arniel's quest was what really got me interested in it
And I think this is true even for MK and community in general, he started talking more about Tonal Architecture after Skyrim

That being said even Oblivion is not as bad as people claim it to be, I mean Cyrodiilic lore was fucked not only because of muh Jungle, but also from cultural aspect which was very simplified, but Oblivion had some really good lore here and there.

A lot of our more detailed stuff definitely came out of post-Skyrim discussion, you got that right. Either way I think I got the topic way off-track, so here's more animal transformation.

There's a good one from TES: Redguard. A set of stone pads scattered throughout the island of Stros M'kai that are basically that game's fast travel system. Offer a Canah feather at one and Cyrus gets changed into a Canah, flies to another pad in the direction he is facing, then transforms back.

There's also a part in the main plotline where Cyrus gets turned into a goblin, but I dunno if that's quite the same thing. Pretty sure Goblins have white souls at least.

Only Morrowind is canon. There are no other games and never have been. Morrowind and its lore are a series constant delirium inspiring orgasms that started in 2002 and will end when I die, only to be replaced by a slightly less explosive but still very enjoyable feeling of warmth and happiness as I assume the role of a Dunmeri peasant girl with a crush on the Nerevarine in 3E 428 during the afterlife.
