>deeply flawed culture
You can't be more wrong than that. Dres are the epitome of what a dunmer is.
Great House Dres is the best fucking house on the whole of Tamriel. I'll tell you why:
>Traditionalist as fuck
All the dank tradition and culture lost elsewhere still lives in their lands. Personal Ghostfences fuck yeah! This leads me to my next point, another thing that's dying elsewhere in Resdayn:
>Slavery, fuck yeah!
There is nothing wrong with slavery, no matter what Thalmorbride and Kuhlman-big-nosed at Bethesda try to pain in the game. You go, dunmer! Enslave that beast! But don't be racist, enslave the imperial, too!
>schools of slave mind breaking
Best slavers in Aurbis must have a tradition that would make any /d/egenerate wet himself.
>They don't give a shit.
Septim empire can go fuck itself. Dres lands are the only place beyond Black Marsh core featuring ZERO Septim invaders crawling around.
>Dealing with the devil
We've all noticed the parallel between dunmer worship of Daedra in search of divinity and Faust's deal with the devil in search of divine knowledge. This demonstrates dunmer's fanatical quest for something greater. From this arouse "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"
Dres, as they're obviously the dankest house, went further down this line of thinking than other houses. Dres make deals with the sload. Everyone on Tamriel is afraid of these fat slobs, but Dres invite them. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, indeed.
>Best fucking merchants
Who are you gonna trade with? N'wahs? Hlaalu filth? No. There's only one right answer - Great House Dres. Reliable and offering merchandise no one else has.
>Free fucking trade
Due to their special laws and lack of restrictions for sload, Dres ports have lured in the most unlikely merchants. Everyone on Tamriel comes here - but not just on Tamriel - Sload and Akaviri arrive monthly in their flying machines.
>Motherfucking technology
Due to this, Dres always have access to the most modern technological and magical equipment and use it daily to suppress Argonian and Septim menaces.
>Monstrous military
With the tradition behind them, newest magi-tech and daily practice, Dres have some of the most dangerous warriors on whole of Tamriel.
You want an egaliterian empire? You'll be purged heretic, so your opinion is irrelevant.
You want le epic magic? That's a novelty. Telvanni are pretty cool, though.
You want tradition?
Indoril are pussies who chickened out because they couldn't keep the Empire out of their lands. Dres did it for the next 900 years.
Redoran are weak casuals who overcompensate for their insecurities and lack of tradition by larping Resdayn that never was. Kind of like Victorians hiding their degeneracy behind insanely strict social segregation and stiff rules. Not because tradition says so, but because without it, tradition would fall apart. This makes them good poster boys, though - which is why in uncertain times of the fourth era they prospered.
If you want real tradition, Dres is the only answer.
They really are best fucking house, hands down. If Tamriel was real, I'd want to live in their lands. Seriously. If I was a dunmer and not an argonian, that is.
Now, it's time to address their severe weakening in 4th era that pretty much bound them to one city and farms around it.
The most obvious answer is that this isn't Morrowind - it's post Morrowind lore and as such, a few hardcore fans will immediately reject it. My power level isn't that high, though. So, lets pretend Morrowind and Skyrim share the same canon.
Everyone knows Great House Redoran stopped the argonian invasion from claiming new land just before hitting their own (newly acquired) holdings north of Almalexia and Mournhold. I'll go out on a limb and say that's a lie perpetuated by the dishonourable house Redoran who wanted to get in power. The real reason argonian invasion was stopped are the Great House Dres who were able to hold their own against an army of Oblivion invading, Failed-Amaranth-Hist strengthened immortal lizards. Nobody can battle such a buffed up opponent. Yet Dres did. They went on a suicide mission and stopped the unstoppable An-Xileel lizard army. But the cost was great - after the war, their holdings were nothing but scorched land and Redoran milk drinkers simply walked in, claiming victory for the glory of their own Morrowind empire.
Never forget the Dres sacrafice, N'wahs.
