Which house is the best house?
In my view, it's Redoran. Hlaalus are Imperial bootlickers, Dres are backwards, incompetant slavers, Indorils are weak religiotard has-beens, and Telvannis, though actually fairly badass, are more interested in their petty house squabbles than truly exerting their influence. Redoran is the only house which is both honorable and has its shit together

House Dres and House Telvanni had the most stability, in my opinion. House Redoran is pretty intertwined with the Temple and House Indoril – both of which are waning, as your post mentions, which drags down Redoran. Hlaalu, as you also pointed out, are only as strong as the Empire.

But Dres and Telvanni have very good chemistry. Dres provides a very good agricultural infrastructure to create many raw materials for both itself and Telvanni wizards, who require the use of slave labor in their various research/experimentation enterprises.

It's a very nice pairing of capitalist and entrepreneur, as one feeds the other, who provides innovation in return.

Black Marsh is limitless supply of valuable slave labor. And Dres, being a big supplier of food products to Tamriel, might have had enough leverage to legalize slavery beyond its borders, to aid in the trafficking of Khajiit slaves, and maybe even Men and Mer slaves.

Say what you will about the Oblivion Crisis and the Argonian invasion of Morrowind, but being a member of Dres or Telvanni (as long as you weren't a slave) was pretty good during the 2nd and 3rd eras.

House Redoran is the only one with real armies, strong leadership, secure territory, etc. it's why they can stabilize Morrowind in a crisis, while the Telvanni wizards sit in their towers and the Dres get slaughtered by their slaves. sure, Telvanni and Dres get you more perks when times are good, but when the shit hits the fan you'll want a Redoran standing in front of it

 No.3300

I really don't care about houses, I prefer guilds, but here's my opinions

Redoran: They fight for the dunmer traditions, berry good.
Hlaalu: Fine, i like the septim empire Still better than fucking titus mede II But like you said, they are imperial bootlickers.

Telvanni and dres… It's said they are powerful houses, but something that just triggers me is the slavery, i hate the slavery so much that i kill slave traders (No, im not playing like a khajiit or an argonian, im playing like a dunmer), Anyway, the dres got destroyed by their own slaves.

Indoril: Now this is what you call "Badass", Strong armies, but they exaggerate a lot, when you pass through an ordinator with indoril armor, "HALT MAGGOT OUR ARMOR IS SACRED" and then they kill you, even if you get the armor off, they kill you anyways after using the armor.

Excuse me guys, but again, i don't really care about houses, so i don't know a fuck about them.

 No.3302

It all depends on what you like, really. I liked the style of the Telvanni. They seemed to be above the inter-house politics in a way.

 No.3307

Redoran is my favourite. Redoran is Vivec's favourite. Redoran is everyone of worth's favourite.

But I liked Redoran better when they were dying off due to their insistence on acting good and honourably.

It seems a little too convenient what happened after Red Year.

no, it makes perfect sense. due to the lack of Imperial assistance in Morrowind for the Oblivion Crisis and the Red Year, people would be pissed at the Empire and their allies, so House Hlaalu would be out. Indoril and Dres got rekt by Argonians, so they're out too. Telvanni are the only other major player still around, and as far as I know they're still mostly inwardly focused. House Redoran is the natural choice to lead in such a situation

The Sixth House

Though if that is not acceptable, I'd say Telvanni.

 No.3314

I'm with OP on this one, I have to go with House Redoran. They may have a close relationship with House Inodril but they're independent enough to fend for themselves, even after the Red Year.

Hlaalu has a funny name, so there's that.

 No.3318

Redoran and Telvanni are my favorite ones. They're so fucking chill. Hlaalu is a bunch of Empire-humping n'wahs, and Indoril… Ministry of Truth is basically what's wrong with them.

I like all of them, because it's the same province which makes them interesting.

Gonna go with House Dres just because I like the aesthetic of an extremely traditional and deeply flawed culture. I also like fantasy economics because I have a mental illness.

Would be cool to see Dres in the future. Maybe we will in a black marsh or elswyr game.

>Redoran
>strong leadership
Nope, going by their political situation in TES 3 they suck at producing good leaders. Small wonder when they're fundamentally opposed to humour and other frivolities, and thus creativity and larger perspective. Redoran is like a House of grunts, not of leaders, except the grunts aren't allowed to laugh either. Redoran can't create its own strength, they're essentially permanently dying until outside influence makes them relevant again. All other Houses, except maybe Indoril, seem more fun, because they allow for so much more creativity among their ranks. Telvanni have the most interesting stuff going on, and Hlaalu is a bit too mundane but still good due to politics (which is always fun), while Dres is a combination of most interesting aspects of all the other Houses, although each is less pronounced.
Telvanni > Hlaalu > Dres > Redoran > Indoril

Telvanni and Redoran. Redoran is a house of great warriors, Telvanni is a house of great mages. Who gives a fuck about the other fetcher houses?

I honestly don't think House Telvanni gave half a Scrib-shit for the Argonian armies. If anyone in Vvardenfell was capable of just plane-shifting their towers and surrounds or encasing them in scalie-proof magic shields it's the house of ancient wizards who've "…never given a shit about external events for a thousand odd years and be damned if I start caring now."

But then, I might be biased.

I think it just never affected them. They were all the way in Port Telvannis or in other far away Dunmer Colonies like Neloth in Solstheim. They'd already been annoyed that the Red Year fucked their experiments over in Vvardenfell, and if any individual wizard could be bothered to actually help the Dres (if he could tear himself away from his experiments and his slaves), he'd be the ass of all the jokes in the Council for centuries.

Giving a shit about lives other than his own is just about the worst thing a Telvanni Mage-Lord can do.

>deeply flawed culture

You can't be more wrong than that. Dres are the epitome of what a dunmer is.

Great House Dres is the best fucking house on the whole of Tamriel. I'll tell you why:

>Traditionalist as fuck

All the dank tradition and culture lost elsewhere still lives in their lands. Personal Ghostfences fuck yeah! This leads me to my next point, another thing that's dying elsewhere in Resdayn:

>Slavery, fuck yeah!

There is nothing wrong with slavery, no matter what Thalmorbride and Kuhlman-big-nosed at Bethesda try to pain in the game. You go, dunmer! Enslave that beast! But don't be racist, enslave the imperial, too!

>schools of slave mind breaking

Best slavers in Aurbis must have a tradition that would make any /d/egenerate wet himself.

>They don't give a shit.

Septim empire can go fuck itself. Dres lands are the only place beyond Black Marsh core featuring ZERO Septim invaders crawling around.

>Dealing with the devil

We've all noticed the parallel between dunmer worship of Daedra in search of divinity and Faust's deal with the devil in search of divine knowledge. This demonstrates dunmer's fanatical quest for something greater. From this arouse "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"

Dres, as they're obviously the dankest house, went further down this line of thinking than other houses. Dres make deals with the sload. Everyone on Tamriel is afraid of these fat slobs, but Dres invite them. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, indeed.

>Best fucking merchants

Who are you gonna trade with? N'wahs? Hlaalu filth? No. There's only one right answer - Great House Dres. Reliable and offering merchandise no one else has.

>Free fucking trade

Due to their special laws and lack of restrictions for sload, Dres ports have lured in the most unlikely merchants. Everyone on Tamriel comes here - but not just on Tamriel - Sload and Akaviri arrive monthly in their flying machines.

>Motherfucking technology

Due to this, Dres always have access to the most modern technological and magical equipment and use it daily to suppress Argonian and Septim menaces.

>Monstrous military

With the tradition behind them, newest magi-tech and daily practice, Dres have some of the most dangerous warriors on whole of Tamriel.

You want an egaliterian empire? You'll be purged heretic, so your opinion is irrelevant.

You want le epic magic? That's a novelty. Telvanni are pretty cool, though.

You want tradition?

Indoril are pussies who chickened out because they couldn't keep the Empire out of their lands. Dres did it for the next 900 years.

Redoran are weak casuals who overcompensate for their insecurities and lack of tradition by larping Resdayn that never was. Kind of like Victorians hiding their degeneracy behind insanely strict social segregation and stiff rules. Not because tradition says so, but because without it, tradition would fall apart. This makes them good poster boys, though - which is why in uncertain times of the fourth era they prospered.

If you want real tradition, Dres is the only answer.

They really are best fucking house, hands down. If Tamriel was real, I'd want to live in their lands. Seriously. If I was a dunmer and not an argonian, that is.

Now, it's time to address their severe weakening in 4th era that pretty much bound them to one city and farms around it.

The most obvious answer is that this isn't Morrowind - it's post Morrowind lore and as such, a few hardcore fans will immediately reject it. My power level isn't that high, though. So, lets pretend Morrowind and Skyrim share the same canon.

Everyone knows Great House Redoran stopped the argonian invasion from claiming new land just before hitting their own (newly acquired) holdings north of Almalexia and Mournhold. I'll go out on a limb and say that's a lie perpetuated by the dishonourable house Redoran who wanted to get in power. The real reason argonian invasion was stopped are the Great House Dres who were able to hold their own against an army of Oblivion invading, Failed-Amaranth-Hist strengthened immortal lizards. Nobody can battle such a buffed up opponent. Yet Dres did. They went on a suicide mission and stopped the unstoppable An-Xileel lizard army. But the cost was great - after the war, their holdings were nothing but scorched land and Redoran milk drinkers simply walked in, claiming victory for the glory of their own Morrowind empire.

Never forget the Dres sacrafice, N'wahs.
