play an dunmer and go stormcloak, its what i did. NPC's were just lazy, didn't want to support the fight. Deserved the grey quarter.

Also, lurk the various mod sites and get a feel for what's out there

Like others have start playing w/o mods, then as you see issues with the game you can try and find mods that fix them, or just go onto modding sites and look at the top mods and download the ones that look cool

Actually I'd recommend them to pick up the unofficial patches because those fix Bethesda's script bloat fuck up.

Sneaky guy in heavy armor with a 2 hander. Sneak up close as fuck and explode out of the shadows with a big ass power attack. If they spot you early, just charge in and fuck faces.

S.T.E.P is a good guide to getting an improved Skyrim. I'd do a vanilla run first though. Just sit back and enjoy the ride and then go have a look at the various mod compilations and see what looks neat.

I felt the opposite. I played Stormcloak first time, then Imperial. I thought Imperial seemed like it was the "right" choice because you actually got to keep Balgruuf, despite his "neutrality". Before that I thought he might just side against you no matter what.
