Can somebody explained to me what happened in the mages guild quest-line in oblivion? In my first couple play throughs of it I never thought too much of what was going on, but after after my latest run I was thinking about what was going on and I just got really confused by this quest-line. Why was the mages guild so afraid of Mannimarco? How did he get such a large following of unquestioningly loyal necromancers? What was the purpose of the colossal soul gem as originally intended? How would it have allowed him to destroy the mages guild? Why did he even want to destroy the mages guild? Maybe I just didn't pay enough attention but I never really noticed any answers for these.

 No.6314

1:He's pretty much the inventor of modern Necromancy and also a god.
2: He was a faction leader in Daggerfall, so I assume he has leadership abilites/ a cult. Standard mage business.
3: Lol I dunno
4: Souls are some crazy shit in the right hands, man.
5. Galerion, founder of the Mage's Guild, almost/did kill him at one point. Also, the Mage's guild is suppressing Necromancy.

Once upon a time Galerion and Mannimarco were roomates in the Psjic order, the only magic institution existing at the time.

Mannimarco literally, could not stop shoving souls into crack rocks like the stoner he was throughout his education, and Galerion literally would not stop being a moralfag about it.

Eventually, both left the psjic orer at some point and went off to do their own thing, Galerion set up the mages guild and was pretty sour over Mannimarco and his B.S

Meanwhile the stoner Mannimarco did the following:

>Gathered a shitload of followers to practice Necromancy with him, combining endless libraries worth of knowledge from all over nirn that was all scattered because necromancy practice was so scarce and unrefined

>Got a thumbs up from the Sload for this and a nifty title, they really liked how good he was at this shit

>Made a kickass amulet that heightened his powers tenfold, though as a side effect the thing never stays the same and travels through time, eistence and space to end up at random locations, so he'd always lose the thing constantly.

>Went to the fucking Soul cairn, came back with a stupid bone hat that let him summon skeletons and control the undead to a greater degree

>Dedicided one day whilst high, "Like, if I take in shitloads of death, I shall become as death itself" So he got the nost toxic poisonous of shit and ingested it, and it was so potent his blood turned to acid, melting off all his flesh and leaving him as a Maximumg skellington Lich, and was seen as the first person to do it.

>The actual facts are that he wasn't but he was the first one to do it and have it recorded evident by the Ayleids, and other such people who became Liches

>Round about this point, Mannimarco had shitloads of Political power, and was more or less shitting the world up with undead, making a name for himself as the king of worms

Galerion, now with his mages guild of moralfags dedicded it'd be good publicity to kick his old roomates ass for old times sakes and because Galerion is a raging moralfag

Pretty much everyone dies foll lowing this battle

Glaerion thinks he's won but, LOL JK IM A LICH

Manimarco fucked off to daggerfall to recuperate his loses

Comes back to raid the funeral party for Galerion and steal his corpse to fiddle with, gets mad boners for Galerions descendants on his dissection table

In daggerfall he gets MC to give him the Macguffin which lets him become a god, but then the lesbian time repair system of Akatosh pulling a brainfrart, he gets to be agod for 5 seconds, existign as god and man.

This subsequently, results in him being kicked out of providence.

Thing is, There are now a total of possibly 3 Mannimarcos, which include the remnants of his divine form, the Necromancers revenant shade of revenant which is a wonderful phenomena that when utilized, allows for necromancers to skip lots of bullshit in certain rituals, so far we've only seen the production of Black soul gems using this, as back then you had to deal with Mo-laggy ballsack or the Ideal bastards to get them and that was always a risky pain in the ass.

Then there's the Man version in which mannimarco was returned to Mortality after being cut off, which is the one you fight In Oblvion, which was Mannimarco Right before he became a Lich, old as piss.

And lastly the possibility that the necromancers Amulet is his Phylectary, which means there are a total of three mannimarco souls existing.

But just to explain

Mannimarco becomes Lich, possibly puts soul in Necromancer's amulet (Explains why it's an item that changes shape, never stays in the same place, and drives people insane (Serial killer in Skyrim quest)) Uses macguffin to become Moon space necromancy god, time annualment bethesda hotfix makes all daggerfall endings canon, Mannimarco as a god exists in two forms, as god & man, time bullshit returns him to man form as a mortal, undoing his lichdom, remnants of his god hood remain as a natural phenomena to assist necros in rituals, possible reminaing soul in phylactery.

And Mannimarco hates the mages guild because they're moralfags that won't leave him alone, and he used the Necromancy ban applied by Traven to gain power again because shitloads of pretty nice guys and dickholes alike got ostracised by everyone thanks to the ban.

Oh and after Lichdom and godhood the Sload worship Mannimarco because he's a badass in their eyes.

But Necromancy in TES terms is the biggest Spiritual bluepill one can take, it's literally doing it wrong on a fundamental universal scale so Galerion wasn't wrong in reality.

Not that anyone would have known that, though.

I never understood the ban on necromancy. Either nobody gave a shit, or 'necromancy' is defined funky.

Several mage guild associated folk sell spells that I thought were necromancy. Take for instance, 'summon skeleton' or 'soul trap'.

 No.6319

>>6318
"Soul trap" would only be considered necromancy if you use it on a human, trapping non-human souls is kosher for the Mage's Guild, also the skeletons are summoned from Oblivion, so you aren't really raising the dead

Nobody seems to care about me using black soul gems, but alright, that's probably an oversight.
Kind of neat about skeletons, though. Never knew that. Guess I should've guessed, though.

No, they were aware of that. It's just Oblivion. They didn't try.

Why'd they have to ruin Mannimarco in Oblivion?

 No.6368

>>6362
>>6362
It's not the fact that they ruined him, it's the fact they didn't do fucking anything with the guy.

Literally, pissant silver knife, a lich summon, and some average grade C spells, the main problem with ALL necromancers in TESIV really, no varied spell lists that are randomized but kept relevant within enemy type.

Also, rather dumb fight, what kind of idiot locks himself in a bone finger arena with little room to maneuver?

If anything, nigga should have teleported to the platforms the stage had to pull some throw spells at this ass whilst I'm over here shit before you escape, via boosting acrobatics to jump over the threshold into the water to make it to where he is.

But it's not just that.
In Daggerfall, Mannimarco was a mysterious, morally vague, character who you could find yourself siding with if you were desperate enough. He was pretty much a crimelord with a monopoly over his own little underworld. All the kings despised him, but would come running to him if they needed some information or som dirty work done. The best part though is his feud with the Underking, who is an even more mysterious character. I mean what is cooler than a war between two extremely powerful and underground factions.
Also, Mannimarco's face and name are never actually revealed in the game, which is fucking awesome.
Oblivion turned Mannimarco into one of the least interesting bad guys in the entire series, and don't even get me started on what fucking Online did to his character.

 No.6372

>>6371
Technically, he was still somewhat underground in TESIV given the fact that he had traitors in the Mages guild and was basically assfucking everyone till the COC came along, and only the count knew about him, in addition to the organisation of the necromancers set to their forts and lairs who were on standby.

It's his personal presentation in Confront the King that was lacking.

If I had my way, I'd make the get the artefacts quests be timed quests, in that if you dick about too much, Mannnimarco gets an Heirloom, and if he gets one the outcome of the boss fight will be drastically different.

So if he gets the Necromancer's Amulet, Instead of MANnimarco, you get that Lich one from Mannimarco Revisited to fight, sporting spells featured on basic, to adept Necromancers, Worm Anchorites, The Lich of lost boy cavern, (Seeing as he taught the guy and because dual souls), and in addition to that, has a touch spell which does cold damage, and paralyzes.

If he gets the Bloodworm helm, but not the Necromancer's amulet, Echo Cave has significantly stronger Undead in it, featuring 2 Undead Mini-bosses and Mannimarco has Multi-Undead Summoning spells to compliment any multi summon mods the player has on (will still be made to work independently of mods, but multi summon mods really make fights with conjurers much harder.)

If he gets both, you get the Both of the features found above, but if he's kicking the player's ass too much, then you can try to smash up the Necromancer's amulet to debuff the guy a little, at the cost of never getting the damn thing.

Now that shit would be satisfying.

uh, maybe i'm a little slow, but can someone elaborate? why's it fundamentally wrong?

Basically, death was created to be escaped, not to be extended.

Life is a hamster wheel. You're suppose to eventually figure out that you can just hop off the damn wheel. Necromancy is full of people who want to stop running but are too dense to consider jumping off, so instead they just stop running and sit their ass down in the wheel.
