Neloth is a greedy old man, of course you got jack shit from him. The councilor you become a hand for on the other hand rewards you a bit more liberally and the other hands reward you with potions, scrolls and enchanted items for doing their quests, which are the quests you should be taking instead of bothering the councilors when you first join, you swit.

One quest reward is a Telvanni Cephalopod Helmet that's enchanted to cast Bound Helm for 120 seconds AND Summon Dremora for 120 seconds, even if you play an unarmoured mage that's a good fucking enchanted helmet.

Also a Telvanni mage lord is the big badass who cures Corprus in the main quest.

Redoran and Hlaalu receive nothing for their toil but tears. Telvanni have the most rep gain, best enchanted quest related toys, and are thoroughly favored as only Bethesda could favor something.

Because I like the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood and Khajits are worthy assets.

To be slightly fair, in the context of Skyrim doing the number quests you have to do for Neloth would have made you master of the guild/archmage if it was a guild questline, I'm just glad they didn't have him retire and make you master of the house or something ridiculous

Because they're the only race in all of Tamriel with anything resembling a sense of humor. Argonians just have misplaced smugness and an inferiority complex. All elves are autistic. All Imperials are autistic. Nords are intellectually disabled. Redguards are too busy deciding if they're trying to represent Africans or are too scared of being seen as disrespectful, or culturally appropriating, or mocking to do so to actually become real characters. Bretons are just…really dull, despite supposedly being really not dull. Khajiit occasionally will say something genuinely funny.
