Is there a lore reason for why Dunmer voices were so different between Morrowind and Oblivion/Skyrim?

I was just playing through Dawnguard when I came across Jiub, and his voice is still the same as it was in Morrowind which I found interesting.

 No.9235

Lorewise? accents and not living in ash-filled wastelands and breathing all that poisonous smoke.

But honestly the accent of the Dunmer in Skyrim is so goddamn shitty. "OY I WOOD LOIK TO BOY A SCHWEETROWLE"

'MOMUH WOY TO SOLEETOOD, A YOUNOITED OMPOYAH IS BEST FOH EVERYONE!

 No.9238

They couldn't be bothered to get Jeff Baker to be the true dunmer voice. But they got him to do all the ghouls in Farrout.

 No.9239

Why doesn't everyone who has lived in Morrowind for a prolonged period have the grizzled voice then?

not really

 No.9243

Dunmer in Morrowind sounded like they all smoked 50 cigarretes per day.

Dunmer in Skyrim sounded like, well, australians. Fetcher is wanker and sera is mate.

Dumer on Solstheim (Dragonborn DLC) sound a lot better IMO.

>Why doesn't everyone who has lived in Morrowind for a prolonged period have the grizzled voice then?

Because… of reasons.

Actually I THINK I remember once reading somwhere, that young native Dunmer used to fake a raspier voice to seem older and experienced. Anyone remember if this was in-game lore?

 No.9253

I think all the accents changed

Nords used to be scottish

All Arnold Schwarzenegger now

To me this thread demonstrates how people are not very good at recognizing accents…

I'm guessing this is mostly American's not being good with non-American accents but I don't want to accuse you all of being American.

> Dunmer don't sound Australian, they sound like an American who is trying to sound like a Cockney (i.e. London in England)

> Nord's don't sound Austrian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), they have a few different accents, ranging from a non-specific Scandinavian, to an Irish, to a fairly bland American accent, but no Austrian ones

there's literally one guy doing an impression of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

 No.9259

>>9253

Nords were only really Scottish in Morrowind, because the guy was doing a Sean Connery impression. He dropped it for Oblivion.

>>9255

I agree with you on the first one (that guy's name is Keith Sarabatka or something like that: he was Holtz in Angel and the cop who tries to fight Joker and then gets captured in Dark Knight)

But

>>9256

There is a voice actor literally doing an impression of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

is there a reason that the dunmer royals of wayrest are brown in DF, but grey in tribunal?

 No.9277

>>9275

early lore canonicity of Racemixing or something. possibly also a bug/developer oversight.

 No.9278

>>9277

Oh wait, scratch that, Symmanchus and barenziah were dunmer.

So probably bug/oversight.

 No.9280

>>9270

You're doing it wrong anon

It's more of a

>OI HIV' YE SEEN ANY EW'VS?

 No.9304

It's because there's no ash in Skyrim. Their voice cords aren't damaged.

 No.9307

>>9304

Hang on…

If living in Vardenfell makes your voice go rough because of the ash, why do all the non-dunmer races living there not have the same croaky voices?

If the ash is the reason, why doesn't everyone living there have the same voice?

 No.9314

>>9304

>>9307

Furthermore, why did the dunmer women speak with a clear voice?

 No.9369

Dunmer ash, Dunmer people, Dunmer ten-pack-a-day speaking voice

It only makes sense

>>9314

All the cock cleans out the pipes

 No.9631

>>9234

The excuse beth used was ash and lack thereof. But I really miss the Morrowind voices.

>>9239

>Paying for more than 5 voice actors.

All the money they spent for the ones they've got have led to cuts in actual game content.

>>9275

Later patches to Daggerfall changed them to grey.

 No.9656

>>9631

>everyone having the same voice is good

Them bringing in a ton of voice actors in Skyrim and beyond is a good thing. Them going for high-profile celebrities that demand high rates and would support this "vidya voice actor union" Hlaalu fetcherry isn't.

 No.9731

>>9656

Just have character introductions and important quest events voiced and have the majority of dialog text.

 No.9732

>>9656

A voice actor's union is not inherently a bad thing. It just looks shitty because vidya programmers don't have a union since they like getting cucked by their bosses. The industry is all around shitty to work in, and improving the work conditions of one work force does not hamper the conditions of another.
