Why do TES vampires get hurt by sunlight? Yes, I know, it's obvious, that's what they do. But it's actually magnus, aetherius, which is the sun.

So what was Harkon's endgame, getting rid of the sun would get rid of the hole left behind by magnus. Could the Elder Scrolls influence the structure of the Aurbis? They're connected with Molag Bal, but other than that, it doesn't really make sense.

 No.989

>>978
Well this will be a heavy speculation but since Aetherial energy and Aetherial beings/Magna-Ge and Magnus are exact opposite of Daedra, they hurt Vampires which are by proxy Daedric spawns
As for Harkon getting rid of the sun, it was more of changing the nature of the hole itself instead of shutting it down.
And yeah The Elder Scrolls can probably influence Aurbis since they are probably higher on metaphysical scale than Mundus itself

I forgot but Dawnguard Vampires are shit tier because they were made on the whims that Todd said it wasn't possible to Make Volhair vampires pop out of the ice to amush you and attack you whilst traveling through it on a secret network of ice tunnels only they could access yet, in the FUCKING DLC THERE WAS DRAGONS THAT DID EXACTLY THIS, IN ADDITION TO DRAGONBORN DLC HAVING MIRAAK DO WHAT WAS AKIN TO TRAVELLING UNDER THE ICE WITH THAT TENTACLE MOVEMENT THING.

It was additionally garbage because it was effectively everything wrong with every vampire mod made for TESIV made canon, which was effectively:

>I'm going to make a vampire overhaul for this game because the Vanilla ones are shit!

>Now, what shall I do?
>Should I actually read the existing lore and build a mod that adds in a vampire clan that Serves Molag Bal and Clavicus Vile, that operates in a pyramid scheme akin to the Camarilla from Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, each member of the inner circle maintaining high positions in society, blending in seamlessly thanks to how their strain of the disease works and contacting you via a series of conditions met, involving reaching a high level of fame, attaining a minimum of a quantity of gold on person with estates owned, and adding compatibility patches for mods that add in other variables used to gauge this chance of meeting the clan, like Bank of Cyrodill, and Dragon captions the Elder council or the CUO versions Social status feature via bashed filter patch, leaving you to seek them out and join?

>Should I then overhaul the vampire system, keeping the vanilla values intact but improving on them, such as togglable vampire sight and life detection, and in line with the reverse vampirism as explained make it so that vampire powers are gained slower when you are fed, compared to one that has intentionally not fed, with starvation resulting in a frenzy mechanic for NPC and PC alike where you will attack people out of your power as a player, as proven by the bands of feral starved vampires in caves and Lord Loviticus?

>Shall I make it so that you can gain all vampire powers of vanilla and my own, but they rely on a blood bar similar to that of VTMB, with some being able to be used as spells on toggle, never losing the powers if weakened but rather prevented from using them?

>Should I make it so that Clavicus Vile has new quests, and an entire commerce system revolving around the trade of souls, enchanted items, artifacts (include mod compatibility patches for this) provided the player has pleased him by giving him Umbra, as to not make him seem forgiving for going back on the bargain you struck with him?

>Should I then also Add quests for molag Bal so you can do all kinds of sick shit, in return for unique vampire powers earned in his favour, ones that cannot be gained via aging and progress as a vampire alone?

>Should I make it so that you can feed on enemy corpses for blood fill, make it so that enemy vampires also do this, and give them access to the mods powers in their own NPC format so it doesn't look like enemy vampires are shit tier compared to the player, offering challenge to living NPCs, and offer Feeding on NPCs as a sneak attack like in VTMB, using edited scripts from the hugging mod, making it so that NPCs will resist you based on endurance, strength, agility, speed, acrobatics, hand-to-Hand and luck

>Strength and hand-to-hand determining how quickly an NPC will brush the player off during a feeding attempt, opposed to the PC's strength and Hand-to-Hand Skill

>Agility, speed, Acrobatics to determine if a NPC dodges a feeding attempt, and if they countterattack during this attempt to damage you.
>Luck to see if you fumble the feed attempt outright.

>Use of Addactor values, and possibly the same features in Fractional Magic Damage to create the magical sneak attacks feature used to create Vampire Sneak attacks, which based on the sneak attack multiplier determined by your skills and attributes will detract from the NPC's chances to prevent you feeding on them

>Can feed in combat, but can't obviously get the bonus of a sneak attack in and can be knocked off, playing the stagger animation when this occurs

>Will damage a NPC when biting according to the PC's race, because Orcs, Argonians and Khajiit leave something of a mess?

>Should I make it so that Players have the chance of a Vampire hunter attack when he is sleeping based on a unique vampire crime variable system, and vampire hunters stalking the town when this is of a certain value, and also findable in the wilderness like adventurers, hunting Vampires in Vampire dungeons, and have compatiblity patches made with mods like Oblivifall loosing my religion, and KOTN so it looks like actual people hate vampires, whether they be nine or worshippers of daedra like Meridia?

>Should I include a compatibility patch with Curse of Hircine?

>Should the quests for the clan involve political discourse, espionage and level design akin to the functionality of the Dark brotherhood questline quests, with some degrees of fighting so Vampire powers can be used?

>Should I make it so that there is another Clan, made up of those expelled from the hierachy of the posher Ventrue-like clan, riff-raff violent and monstrous vampires you find in caves as outcasts that contrast the orderly clan that sway more to Molag Bal than Clavicus Vile outright, more combat orientated in questline sense with their own unique abilities, used as scapegoats for the likes of mortals to prey on in righteous vengeance?

>Should I include a death animation that is actually Lore friendly because the reason why Cyrodillic Vampires leave behind Vampire dust is because their organs have atrophied and dried up, leaving a dust behind on death coating their bodies?

>Shall I include the ability to sire your own, made compatible with CM partners, and CSM, in addition to train and keep cattle?

>Shall the second half of the main quest line involve the foreign vampires from other provinces start to invade and exert their influence over the concrete rule the Cyrodillic vampires have?

>Shall I make Vampires Tough shit so if I were to pit them against Liches, the winner of the fights would be 50/50, whilst still ensuring non vampire PCs and NPCs of the right level can taken them on and win?

No, I won't do any of this

Instead I'll go off on my own inane Tangent and make my very own Assumptions on par with Twilight bashing mentality and treat Tes Vampirism the same because I'm a fucking self absorbed cunt, and drown it out with generic Bram Stoker's Dracula shit, including features that are so non-lore friendly, TESO would look at that shit and think that ain't write and underneath this garbage heap of a deviant art tier vampire idolization orgy of shit include a few actual features that are pricless in value (see above statements)that no one could live without.

And this has happened, EVERY SINGLE. FUCKING. TIME.

And you know what? That'd be fine, we don't expect subhuman casuals to give two CHIMs about lore.

But that's not what bothers me about this entire fucking picture.

This is what Bothers me

>Exit Imperial Sewers after the Emperor assassination

>Cross the river
>Kill bandits
>Go to the tent
>Right inside of that tent is a book named "immortal Blood"

The first book in the game you will ever come across.

the first book in the game.

THE FIRST FUCKING BOOK IN THE ENTIRE GAME,

================================
WHY NOT MAKE VAMPIRES "BETTER"?
================================

Because I think Bethesda's Vampires are fine. It's an interesting new take on the disease, and I completely understand how the apparent jump in logic was made that gave them the idea to do it this way.

It starts out as a simple disease. It makes you tired. Not a huge deal. Then, you sleep, and it takes full effect. You awaken undead, plagued by nightmares and feeling a desire to feast on the blood of mortals.

But why do you need to feast on the blood of mortals?

Because your body wants to be mortal again.

That's why feeding LOWERS your Vampiric power. By consuming mortal blood and getting it back in your body, you've brought yourself away from death's grasp. You've given up power in exchange for humanity. But by allowing yourself to continue in unlife, by abstaining from all things mortal and living, you delve deeper into the world of undeath, and gain more power by doing so.

http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/16668/?
Kudos to this guy, he gets it.

BUT TO CONTINUE HOLY FUCK, THE ENTIRE POINT OF TES VAMPIRISM ISN'T THE FACT THAT IT'S A LITERAL PERK IN LIFE YOU GET TO FUCK ABOUT WITH LIKE YOU'RE PLAYING A CARELESS CUNT WITH HIS HAND HELD AT ALL TIMES, THE POINT OF TES VAMPIRISM IS THAT YOU SUFFER, BECAUSE IT IS MADE BY THE RAPE MASTER HIMSELF WHO, IF YOU DO A QUEST FOR, SOUNDS LIKE HE HATES THE EVERLIVING FUCK OUT OF YOU JUST BECAUSE YOU EXIST.

THE ONLY REASON WHY IT GETS GOOD FOR ANYONE UNDER IT'S THRALL IS BECAUSE YOU BECOME AN AGENT OF SUFFERING YOURSELF AND THAT MEANS MOLAG BAL IS PLEASED SO YOU GET GOOD PERKS IN UNLIFE TO ALLEVIATE THE SHITTINESS OF IT ALL BECAUSE YOU GENERATE MORE ASS PAIN REVENUE EXTERNALLY THAN INTERNALLY

SERIOUSLY, FUCK DAWNGUARD, IT IS A MOMUMENT TO SPOONFEEDING, HARKON DID FUCK ALL AFTER HIS ALLEGED BONUSES TO HIS BLOODLINE, AND DICKED ABOUT DOING WHAT COULD BARELY QUALIFY AS TERRORIZING THE COUNTRYSIDE VAMPIRE OVERLORD STYLE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECLUSIVE ICE HAUNTING JUMP SCARE PRONE s'witS THAT MAKE PEOPLE DISSAPEAR DURING SNOW STORMS THAT LIVE IN A KICKASS GLACIER THAT HAS A CASTLE BUILT OUT OF A KICKASS SUNKEN NORD PIRATE SHIP IN IT, NOT FUCKING CASTLE OF THE NIGHT MOD TERRIBLE CANON EDITION, I'D PLAY THE FUCK OUT OF THAT IF PLAYING AS DAWNGUARD MEANT I HAD TO FIND THE SECRETS OF THE ICE SURFING LONERS THAT MOVE LIKE SANIC WHEN ON ICE TERRAIN.

DAWNGUARD WAS LITERALLY CASTLEVANIA, FROM THE BLOTTING OUT THE SON, TO THE VAMPIRE LORD, TO THE STRAINED FAMILY RELATION ALUCARD WAIFU EDITION AND OTHERWORLD SHIT, EXCEPT DURING MY PLAYS OF MODS ON MY TOASTER COMPUTER, I ACTUALLY REPLICATED A PROPER CASTLEVANIA EXPERIENCE IN TESIV AND I CAN SAFLY SAY DAWNGUARD DID NOT MEET STANDARD.

Well, the lore is a bit vague and non specific on if TES vampires actually need to drink blood for subsistence/energy or if it's just a craving thing that makes them more life like but contributes nothing to their actual power, so it's easy to see where they'd get confused about the reverse strength thing. Even Harkon's comment about 'need to feed like lesser vampires to avoid the effects of the sun' could be interpreted as either manner

Also, I get the feeling that a lot of people consider tes' reverse vampire concept to be more for the sake of game mechanics and balance than lore. To give players a reason to want to switch between stages instead of being fully fed the be all end all vampire state.
And, in fact, that any lore that supports it is just there for the sake of lampshading it (much like 'the empire outlawed levitation' was put in to explain levitation being removed because of Oblivion's closed cities) Remember this *is* the same game that also decided arbitrarily that you could only feed from sleeping npcs because allowing you to feed from conscious npcs or bandits (or dead bodies) would remove all challenge from it.

>THE ENTIRE POINT OF TES VAMPIRISM ISN'T THE FACT THAT IT'S A LITERAL PERK IN LIFE YOU GET TO FUCK ABOUT WITH LIKE YOU'RE PLAYING A CARELESS CUNT WITH HIS HAND HELD AT ALL TIMES

Even after Dawnguard, vanilla vampirism was still more disadvantages than useful buffs and powers. I was more annoyed about Skyrim's bullshit version of Lycanthropy having no fucking drawbacks aside from stupid guard comments and the stuff about going to a different dead person place, which didn't even sound that bad if you actually enjoy hunting, and considering your other option was going to a magic puppet show version of Valhalla while waiting for your soul to get reformatted.

 No.1016

>>1013
Moonlight Tales makes a good effort to fix lycanthropy. Every full moon you'd transform for the entire night and there's a small chance to transform on other moon phases as well. With the ring of hircine you can alter the times you transform and for how long which fits better with the lore since the ring supposedly gives werewolves more control over their transformations. You're also stalked by werewolf hunters which is another nice touch.

Lycanthropy is unique in that Hircine considers it a gift while Molag Bal seems to use vampirism as another way to dominate mortals and spread his darwinist ideals. It should in that respect be a gift to people who lose grip on their humanity and give themselves up fully to the hunt.

Some features that might help the next incarnation of lycanthropy if they choose to include it would be things like more frequent transformations and stat penalties if you don't feed enough. Not golden ideas but that's off the top of my stupid head and I'm sure the bethesda creative team could come up with something better. Without mods lycanthropy is pretty much a straight up emergency button perk that becomes less useful as you level up. There's some shit about a well rested bonus but I never really noticed the difference when I was cured and when I was a werewolf.

Considering that you'll have to get infected if you want to finish the companion quest line anyway and you won't see a single silver weapon ever again once you're done (not counting some of the radiant DG quests) it's worth it just for the disease immunity

 No.1020

Yeah it was shortly after I reached the soul cairn and was running around killing black skeletons that I decided to go third person and realized I was wearing my dawnguard outfit and wielding a crossbow. Then I became aware I was playing a vampire hunting story that veered wildly off track.

I agree that even as a classic vampire story Dawnguard didn't excel and instead became a weird treasure hunt involving elven artifacts that had nothing to do with vampires. Even after you kill Harkon Isran just remarks that he's dead now and that's the end of that, zero closure, not even a congratulations. Well fuck you and fuck this entire quest line. Fuck Serana especially, an ancient vampire that willingly partook in a forbidden and profane ritual for the sake of unholy power is really just a troubled little girl who wants mommy and daddy to stop fighting? Fuck you. She'll go out and cure herself immediately after merely suggesting the idea? What the fuck.

 No.1031

Yeah, it does say something about the writing when the best part of the vampire questline was when it totally ignored the vampires and hunters and went off on a side plot about necromantic energy monsters and the snow elves.

>Oh cool no more sleeping half the game
>Some blocking out the sun bullshit
>Lame bossfight
>No closure
>Vampire lord nowhere near as good as being human
>Get cured of vampirism and can't even join Dawnguard now because they hate me
I know the point of being a vampire is a curse and the Dawnguard fucked up the vampire lore by making it all DA and edgy and shit but they could have at least made being a vampire lord viable/interesting.
Once you become one that's it, literally just a shitty werewolf transformation that you can only use half of the day and everyone hates you.
Why not make a quest where you can take over a hold and make it a haven for vampires, or if you're with the Dawnguard, get sent on missions to protect cities/holds from vampire attacks.

You mean:

>Bethesda's development team realized todd was deliberatly hindering the progress and development of the game, well in the know that they had plenty of time to do the things they wanted with other instances including a work ethic that procuded more content for the game the ntheir previous mode of operation, as tood forced them to make George Lucas to Star Wars without the other guy to tell him off, tier choices which further turned the game into a watered down piece of shit

>Todd then proceeded to add steamworshop in his bid to "appeal to his prior audience" a poorly made choice, as either to his knowledge or not was done for the sole purpose or accidentally killing his original userbase further by letting the cancer of steam into it, bringing the collective shilling, narcissism, and degeneracy of minecraft mod videos, AAA autists, and other lowlife scum without direction or cause or sense of family within communities, disallusioned gormless fools who don't behave and try to terraform places they enter to suit their twisted needs

>the once orderly if not flawwed community that was once the Nexus and it's common conventions worsened via Bethesda game introduced via fallout userbase joining in, introducting the same unholy work ethics and practices that made everythign about fallout moddign scene as bad as it was, in addition to drowning the users to the neck with the same kind of lowlife GURL GAMER loveless women who play EA sims games onto the moddign scene, making Alienslof ad infinium into the modding community.

That's what happened.

Proof?

look for oblvion mod reviews on youtube, jack shit, but poor recordings with edgy kid AMV tier music playing or people with terrible voices and no sense of modding conduct when it comes to playing, youtube nobodies as the term dicatates

The only person who ever did mod reviews was Team UDF, and even he was an uneducated casual.

if there's one thing I detest overall, it's that fucking ASS-THEEEH-TIIICKKKK cunt, fuck him and all his videos, seriously, fuck his kind.

 No.1125

Adding to the reason why such videos are shit is because most of the time these people talk about shit a face value, never give insight into these mods, further reinforcing the fact they don't even play them and seek another benefit from showcasing them, and additionally don't talk about how well the mods work lore-wise, or just with particular load orders and builds, according to that person's tastes, effectively coming off as mysterious as the file in question because there are still things people want to know about it.

They also glorify their ability to give 10/10's IGN style, because they know they'd get reckt by Thalmor nexus mods, and their userbase with bandwagoning and YOU CAN'T MOD SO WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT IT ad homeniem, as if it mattered.

 No.1126

Then there's the DON'T LIKE IT DON'T PLAY IT shit, and you know what? That's fine.

What isn't fine is when this is used against actual constructive criticism because all it does is generate the cancerous hugbox atmosphere that is generally people shitting all over their own potential achivements because they're the kind of people who'd write an essay in class, and get 100% fucking autistically mad in a tantrum because they went over a defined word cap and refuse to rectify any part of their work which is a massive clusterfuck of needless shit which could be shortened down to meet the point with ease, except when shit like that happens, they generally get set straight and are made to understand just why they are wrong and need to change.

These are the people that never learnt that lesson in their lives, and the ones that almost always cause drama in any creative commmunity.

Not just him, but pretty much anyone who starts his video with an intro with some horribad dubstep, autistic OC remix.org song or anything that attempts even remotely to come off as credible with the content at hand being the youtube equivalaent of sensationalist idiot-box news casters that report head-first into any subject they are unfamiliar with.

Seriously, fuck those fucking people, I absoloutely hate them, they think their shit are constructed "Mod reviews", but the fact of the matter is, they are no different from newspeople, it's exactly what they are, literal fucking parasitic newscasters extended their little godless news network to anything they can infect that has a hint of a large userbase.

 No.1133

To finalize, the most effective way to gauge that "Mod reviews" really are sensationalist Mod news, is that these people really lack any form of notable passion in what they do, and how well you can compare this shit to actual news casting

I mean let's start with how they work

>Iconic intro with a permanently almost neverchaning introduction theme, in addition to a logo and sometimes showreal of past reports

>Quick snazzy stuff, no in depth analysis, puts the main points of appeal forward that steer toward base desires, rather than higher entertainment value, pursuits, goals, things that have deeper impact and provokeconstructive thinking
>Mascot characters, notable newscasters, and themes of transition from story to story like news to weather, like a murder story to a happy story, a weapon mod to an armour mod
>Catchphrases, company creed logo, ASSTHETIC
>Ends with an outtro

Seriously, if these people recorded themselves on a set, there would be 0 difference, infact, this already exists, with that red haired minecraft tips n tricks cunt always out to shill door-to-door needless crap halfway in to his videos.

What would give, for an actual reveiwer who plays his mods, categorizes the long content in playlists, and makes a summary video after that goes into detail, what I would give for him to not be a fadce value easily impressed normalfetcher.

Where the hell is the Jay Sherman of modding and vidya?

>Why do TES vampires get hurt by sunlight?

TES is pretty underwhelming with its vampire lore, which is sad to me because they are my favorite fictional monster. The real answer is "muh vampire tropes", but if you really crave context, think about what vampirism is.

Vampirism, all the various lycanthropies, and even corprus, have one thing in common: they are all direct manifestations of a god's will. It's not just a "disease", it is divine essence. The answer to why their "gifts" behave in a certain way is because it reflects some quality or intent of the god who created it. You gotta ask what would motivate Molag Bal to make you run from the sun, or perhaps why he himself runs from the sun.

>think about what vampirism is

Shit

For fags

Retarded

Gay

Awful

Bad

Regrettable

Terrible

Horrendous

Queer

Unacceptable

There's probably more things completely inseparable from vampirism, but these are the ones that really define it.

>Why do TES vampires get hurt by sunlight?

Remember the Colored Rooms, Daedric realm of Meridia? Ever read in the Magne Ge pantheon how Meridia's realm is made of lenses and mirrors and how Merid-Nunda claims Meridia made her sphere from scratch by bending the course of light? Guess what lies between the Sun and Nirn, the goddess of cosmic/aetherial energy who hates undead and especially Molag Bal's

you are too hung up on the gay emo pop-culture surrounding them to see that they're badass. when vampires are done right, they are top tier.

no brooding bad-boys, no angst, no romance bullshit, no "good vampires". just primal, ugly, cunning old monsters, who are a solid notch above us on the food chain.

It was cool until Anne Rice "created the modern vampire".

>Muh retarded swamp-dwelling blood-sucking retard who can't into society is above us on the food chain because he can take a few of us at once whereas we drive him into hiding with our numbers

Those are even more retarded. Fuck vampires.

its from ESO but it doesn't seem to be lore breaking or contradictory in any way.

I think you could support that argument using old kirkbride stuff, magna ge stuff instead of non-canonical shit TESO stuff.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sort of getting the vibe that you don't like vampires.

 No.10161

It squares pretty neatly with a lot of things and Sanders has been talking with Kirkbride and Kuhlman for a while and there's a lot of stuff about Meridia that they've been keeping in their back pocket which they might be getting tired of people not figuring out.

>muh numbers

>stahp hiding!1!!!!

isn't that almost every predator species on earth? they're vastly outnumbered by prey, and pretty much all rely on stealth and ambush. i don't see what your complaint is.

if anything that makes vampires even more badass. they hunt a species that is very smart, numerous, organized, and armed with technology, and get away with it for centuries.

>Part of the House of Troubles

>Any better than a mortal

They can be purged by fire quite easily, I hear.
