Anyone in the middle of a playthrough?

I'm currently playing a mage-hating, scared-of-the-undead redguard grill on Skyrim. First time playing as a ra gada. Enjoying it so far. Their racial ability in Skyrim is one of the better ones.

I might just start a new one but damn, I'm poor, trying to get a pc now, I have it for consoles and I've just played it so many times. If I don't have a good back story, a good game play style and a creative RP gimmick, I loose interest pretty quickly.

I'm afraid I'll Scarface everything up after being able to mod though. After living like a peasant since '11, I might go Mod crazy and mod the shit out of it until I zero sum.

Thinking about doing something creative with Orcs or Dunmer right about now. My last character was an honorable redguard, no magic, suspicious of it.He initially distrusted elves but came to appreciate them in Solstheim. By the endgame he still thought beast-races were incapable of human thought though, and always dismissed them as animals which excel at mimicry.

Orcs he liked though, he had a good trade-friendship with most strongholds and seem to like them over other races. Strange, that happens every other time I play a redguard, except for my self-hating redguard shield mage, ex-slave from Morrowind that loved Resdayn and its culture more than the Morrowind fellas in this board.

I've tried to make it work with other races but its hard for me to RP some of them, like Altmer. Beast races only work for me when they are Uncle Lorkhans and basically try to just forget their racial handicaps.

My current Morrowind playthrough is pretty much of a young Telvani mage who essentially just wants to be left alone to gather his power and further understand magicka, but keeps getting wrapped up in crazy adventures, only to eventually find he has a taste for the thrill of traipsing around the province, killing monsters, and solving problems.

I want to do another Skyrim playthrough but I'm finding it difficult to work up the motivation. Maybe a QT Redguard girl who dual wields or something. I wish the game had a little more replayability, or that the quest mods weren't so shit.

I installed 20-ish lovers lab mods and used them to seriously roleplay a worthless khajiit slut who often used sex to advance through questlines and went for bad boys, especially for khajiit men, nordic women and orc dick

The scarriest part of this was that I made it into a legit lore friendly playthrough.

I'm currently playing as a "Palpatine" type character in Morrowind. He was a Reachman from birth, specifically belonging to a sect of Reachmen who worshipped Peryite.

He's trying to use the blight diseases from Red Mountain to his advantage to conquer Vvardenfell. First he's trying to make his way to become a religious figure for both Imperial colonists and traditional Dunmer, combining the two cultures - thus watering them down. Through multiple planned events, he is going to set up propaganda to make the people of Vvardenfell more vulnerable to the idea of Daedra worship. He is also quite a Darwinist of sorts, as Peryite is as well. He shares other attributes of him as well, such as maintaining law and order, being responsible to his duties, and making himself stronger. His whole goal is to make all of Nirn stronger by spreading disease (triggering natural selection), and Vvardenfell is his first step

playing this character as an indoctrinated politician has actually made me think that Peryite is one of the better Daedra, even though he is not.

I have several character play throughs going on right now.

My Stormcloak is a woodsman living in Darkwater Crossing taking care of simple every day tasks like cutting wood, building simple menial things for every day tasks, and from time to time doing patrols around the surrounding area with the local guard. He's sleeping in one of the tents near the river. A very true Nord character, loyal to Ulfric, and not giving a fuck.

My Imperial is stationed at Fort Haafingar and fucking hates life in Skyrim. I use real needs and private needs for immersion, so it's fun to go an entire day without sleeping with the character. He may not sleep, because there are so many tasks that he has to cover for with such a short supply of men at the fort, and with few resources he barely eats more than a slice of bread a day. It's fun.

My mage is studying some dead things over in Eastmarch. His party nearly got wiped in the Forsaken Cave, and now he's holding down in Windhelm until I can find something interesting to do with him, like maybe send him to Solstheim to study with the Telvanni.

My Thalmor chic literally just writes reports and sends them to the Thalmor Embassy. I actually write them into the CK and then add them to her inventory, so I can carry them to the Embassy, and just drop them on Elenwen.

Yeah, with Requiem I can't even leave the walls of Fort Hraggstad without bringing two or three other people with me in a small patrol (using one of the follow mods I downloaded months ago,) because the chances of being killed are bad enough with buddies.

My Nord goes out alone in the Rift sometimes, because he's a Nord. He's nearly died on almost every play through.

My Thalm waifu always travels with Justicars, so I barely give a fuck about the enemies. This bitch is getting back to Anui-El, and there's not nuttin' stupid fucking beasties and Storm-plebs can do about it.

My recommendation is to just play simple characters. It's better that way, because I don't have to lump 1000 expectations on a secretary, a woodsman, or some mediocre grunt.

>Skyrim

Redguard warrior. Completed the main quest, doing a bunch of side quests and kind of holding of on the DLCs because edgy vampires are uninteresting and the dragonborn DLC hasn't really called to me yet.

Running my own Militaires Sans Frontières here with 10 followers, though the "followers are invulnerable" bullshit kind of makes it hard for anything interesting to come of it since nobody dies unless it's a nameless mercenary that hit a pressure plate.

>Oblivion

Nord warrior. Finished the main quest, was exploring and doing dungeons, then weird graphical glitches appeared out of nowhere so I can't really play it. Every time a spell is cast some object is displayed where it hit in wireframe mode and everything around it shows the wireframe.

>Morrowind

Stuck in the main quest like a pleb because somehow a House Redoran guy died and now they won't name me hortator and I haven't felt like just putting in the console code because fuck you bethesda you never displayed the "threads of prophesy have been severed" message

It looks like you're going to have to choose your own path on this one. If they aren't going to name you Hortator and Nerevarine, then it looks like you're about to get hermaphrodite blood on your hands.

Alternatively, if you don't want to back-path, I'm fairly certain that you can get a certain degree of reputation (50 I think?) you can talk to the Dissident Priests and they'll shuttle you quick-like to see the bastard.

Holy shit brah, that`s tenouttaten RPing right there and I commend you for your anal autism and devotion to DAT IMMERSION.

I don't know if I could pull something like that off, the setting in skyrim doesn't really borrow itself to such in depth role playing as far as I'm concerned. Skyrim is and always will be in my eyes a glorified action-adventure dungeon crawler with RPG elements. My dragonborn always feels so bland and mary-sue like that no matter what I do or play like, he or shit or it is always sort of flat, specially because guild questing is so absolutely shit tier and useless as far as the world is concerned.

At least in morrowind you could use an alternate start/not the nerevarine mod and live life as some random guy trying to make a living or becoming a prominent powerplayer in provincial politics.

If I were to try something like that, I'm afraid it'd had to be in Oblivion or even morrowind. In oblivion I got this sense that no matter what I did, I was just an adventurer doing some adventuring. Cities in Oblivion felt nice and comfy and you always wanted to get back to them to just chill and gather your thoughts, whereas in skyrim, cities are just places to dump loot and finish quests, and it's not even THAT important, the dragonborn is so goddamn mighty he don't need no cities for no services, he can just loot everything he needs and that's that.

Old Bioware is great.

And no, I don't expect most vidya to emulate PnP perfectly. PnP has detail, vidya has theater and visual effects. It's whatever you enjoy the most really, but in either case I think a vivid imagination is the key to an immersive RP experience.

Gothic 2.

It just hurts you and doesn't let up. Combat is difficult and dangerous and takes timing and rhythm.

If you play long enough to see a skeleton: Run.

Just run, don't wonder, just run. They are the deadliest skeletons in any RPG you've likely played. Even goblin skeletons.

You also have to acquire 1k gold and sheep to join the mages guild, and this is the only way to learn how to cast spells instead of using scrolls.

My only tip, is to not trust that annoying fuck Bosper the Bowmaker, he will fuck you out of good money.

Also, commit to your build- either magic, dexterity, or strength. This game doesn't allow you to be the Jack of all trades.

I'm having a great time now playing a Nord, for the second time. He's pretty "traditional" in the regard that he's very martial, heavy-armor and patriotic, "Skyrim for the Nords" type. But he's also pretty mystical, into magic and enchanting, communes with daedra and magic and such, kind of a "guru" personality.

I have him as a bald nord with a shap nose and a big red beard, wearing the Hamerfell gettup the assasins wear since he grew up in Hammerfell. If the name Alhazred means anything to you, that's one of the inspirations for the build.

I have a hard time maintaining prejudices though, which I think are an important part of role playing since a character who is ok with everyone and everything is odd, and if something doesn't manifest itself in gameplay it doesn't mean much. He started out as not a big fan of non-human races but as I near level 30 and he's interacted with most races, it seems odd to maintain it, especially since he's so into magic and stiff so he can't just be all "fuck these elven witches" as in the beginning.

Do you find that you actually have to hate a race in order to make your role play character hate them as well?

Its not like that. I don't mean that say, if I'm a stormcloak I'll hate the imperials, that's a given. Its a little more nuanced.

Example, I played a character from Morrowind who loved dunmer, was OK with other races and hated beast races. This manifested in me giving preferential treatment when trading to dunmer and avoidinb beasts at all, even when it would have been expedient to just sell shit to the khajiit caravans. Needless to say I didn't take their quests or have them as followers either.

Idk, it felt more organic then. Maybe the character I set out to make and the character I actually made are just different and that's OK. I haven't written a bio or anything, just had a basic back story and trait list and let it developed from there.

 No.10239

>>10236

I don't want to be that guy, but it seems like a Knight would make a terrible stealth archer. Have you considered playing a stealth archer? What about a battle mage stealth archer? Morrowind is pretty unique in that Thalmor stealth archers are top fucking tier, so you're kind of screwing yourself by not playing as one.

Using a bow in gothic 2 is a huge mistake anyways, just make a melee character and stunlock everything.

I thought the game was pretty tame up until you go back to the mining colony. The areas just filled to the tits with those river lurker fucks and butt feasting orcs that stomp about all over the place you need to go. The only way I got past was to exploit a glitch that let you jump up the far wall of the castle.

Great game, I highly recommend it.

>What's wrong with early Bioware

It's not that their old shit is bad, it's just really not as good as people used to claim it was. They're rather poorly designed and each of their games/characters are written with a template that I can lay out right now

>Snarky guy/girl

>Boring human guy/girl

>The homosexual

>The bloodthirsty lunatic

>The bitch

>The stoic guy

All of their games have a very black and white approach to morality, player choice is quite limited outside of their good/bad endings which are usually the result of a choice or two you make in the last ten minutes of the game, pretty much every plot involves you taking down some saturday morning cartoon villain/ancient evil.

I'd say they capped out quality wise around ME1, then nosedived right after.

For a company heralded as 'the kings of RPGs!' for pretty much their entire lifetime up until now, their games are astoundingly mediocre.

>very black and white approach to morality

this goes back to Baldur's Gate 2, which is considered the pinnacle of RPGs. on paper you have all sorts of alignments to go with, but in the main quest you still get pigeonholed into either a selfless hero or a power-hungry psychopath. neutral alignments always get screwed.

Huh, didn't notice.

Since I was playing a mage I just got very good at beating back monsters with a stick.

And what do you mean glitch? You swim around, sneak around, then eventually if you don't get eaten by wargs you find yourself at the collapsed battering ram and you run up it, and into the castle.

This is where I quit since the quest was bugged.

I really liked the stealthy feel of that place.

Gothic enemies were too much for me, I always ran and built up .exp in the town quests. Eventually I got good enough with my timing to kill a few wolves and bug monsters.

Also it would depend on when you last played, since Gothic 2 had a major update after release that just made the entire game punishment- its difficulty was nothing like Gothic 1 after that.

Of course for melee it's easier, but I was too stupid to even give it a try despite always using it. I was just holding onto my .exp for other shit.

It got so ridiculous when I'd have to savescum fights, just spamming block and getting in quick hits.

Lurkers are also not so bad if you single them out, what kills me is those wargs and goblin skeletons, they're just too fast to beat back like a tennis ball and always in groups. I don't think I ever killed more than a few stray wargs, and goblin skeletons I just wasted every spell I had on them.

>It's not that their old shit is bad, it's just really not as good as people used to claim it was. They're rather poorly designed and each of their games/characters are written with a template that I can lay out right now

Fair enough. I guess the bar for RPGs has dropped so low that old Bioware is a gem compared to the cat shit that gets passed of as "RPGs" nowadays.

I enjoyed old bioware more for mechanics than story; Forgotten Realms has always had TV-Tropes tier plotlines.

Anyhow, here's another character of mine, an Argonian dope dealer camping in the woods near Riverwood waiting for his plants to bud so he can start selling. He doesn't care about the civil war or Alduin, since he's basically a Trailer Park Boys character.

His story is a lighthearted comedy about growing dope and stealing shit
