It's a pretty simple exercise Anon has been giving me - the site he sent gives me a few pictures of models that I should sketch the form of.

It's helpful for getting me used to drawing the human body.

I'm impressed that you want make original pieces. I see too many people on DA who are content redrawing other people's pictures. That being said though theirs nothing wrong with using another picture for reference. Whether it's using the same character but a different pose or the same pose but different character. I even think it's ok to completely copy a picture as long as it's just for pratice and you don't claim it as your own.

I really hope you don't mind but I shopped your picture to show you what I was talking about. Where you placed the eyes would be right for a male or older female character. But for younger or moe characters I find placing the eyes about a third of the up (from the bottom) the head is best. What I did was scaled the eyes down just a little so I could moved them down and apart a little. I also lowered the hair line. I admit this is just my personal taste and I hope I didn't offend you by changing your picture. Although I do hope I was able to help you some.

It's been ages since I actually drew anything vocaloid related, so I knuckled down and did this.

I'm quite happy with it, though the pose was hard to come up with. And I still can't draw hands very well, though I wasn't trying very hard here.

Version 2, added some details and fixed the shape of her left leg and right shoulder.

Today I thought I'd experiment a little with purely digital drawing. I've never done it before, but I have a cousin who studied art and animation at university. She had a spare graphics tablet lying around, so it's mine now.

I prefer sketching manually, but learning another new skill is never bad. Having said that, I feel like photoshop is needlessly complicated.

This pose was taken straight from a random idol picture, and it's a belated drawing for pantsu day from me.

I can't get the hang of digital drawing. I just cant get smooth lines like I can with a pencil. Be careful with photo shop. It can make you lazy as an artist or it can drive you crazy by allowing you to edit your pic an unlimited amout of times. Letting you nit pick yourself to death.

I think I'm getting the hang of this.

In general, I prefer girls with longer hair. My first girlfriend had hair that was down past her hips. For Rin, I'm not a big fan of her Project Diva look where her hair cuts off before it reaches her shoulders, but most artists give her at least shoulder length hair anyway.

In any case, I'm alright with most hairstyles as long as it isn't a man's hairstyle on a girl.

For what it's worth I'm sorry for what happened to you. I personally think if it's okay to be proud of victory in combat but then again I romanticize a lot of old warrior cultures. Thanks, as it turns out drawing has become something like meditation for me. It helps me to relax.

The fight at the wedding doesn't bother me at all nowadays, it happened 10 years ago after all. No, I was upset that the other RinAnon picked up the idea that I was a terrible person from my story. That hurt, and it still hurts even though we've (probably) made up now.

I try to help the guy a lot. He's young, so I try to act something like an older brother towards him and give him advice, and generally look out for him. For him to instantly decide I was scum like that was a shock, and it pretty much ruined my day today. Don't worry, I'll be alright. I've gotten over much worse shocks in my life.

I don't feel like posting in /miku/ right now, but I'll still be here.

Anyway, I've been meaning to ask you how you do your drawings in photoshop. I really like how your linework looks and was wondering if you'd give me some tips. I like my thick linework, but I'm experimenting with making the lines thinner and I'm not really having any success on that front.

I was going through all the different brushes, air brushes and stuff at random. I think I like them, they work nicely for shading.

And thanks for that pen tutorial, I had no idea you could alter the anchor points. That changes everything.

By the way, I just learned by going over some old posts that you were the TetoAnon who defended me when I was being hassled for asking Yukari for that doujinshi months ago. I never got to thank you for that - thank you very much! It was an upsetting ordeal, so I'm grateful I got your support at that time. Before I finally go to bed, I should say I've had an idea for a project.

The younger RinAnon is gonna have his 18th birthday near the end of September, so I'd like to draw a birthday pic for him. I'd like to put a lot of effort into this to make it really good, and I've got a free month from the end of August to do it (which is when I finish my work contract, and before university restarts near the end of September).

I'll do a few draft sketches and post them here. If you could offer me advice on how to proceed from there, I'd be really grateful.

This is the most basic placement I have in mind. A cake in the centre, birthday Rin being happy, a Miku and Rin on either side of her giving her a pat on the back, and a Lily lazing on a windowsill.

At the very least, I want to add another Miku, two Tetos, a Yukari and a Meiko. I'm not sure where I should start adding them. My intuition says to add them behind the central group, but then I think they'll be overshadowed, however if I add them to the sides then I feel like they're too far removed from the celebration, and especially so if I add them to the other side of the table which will have the additional problem of obscuring the camera.

Maybe I'm overthinking it and should just add them in to the sides to see how it works out?

When I put them behind the group, they feel like they're overshadowed to the point of exclusion, but when I put them on the sides, they feel like they're not really doing anything.

Meiko harassing Yukari with a toothbrush to one side sounds like a good comedic element to add.

Thank you very much, I think I'll stick with this sort of placement. Now I need to practice drawing backgrounds. A living room shouldn't be too difficult. I'll also decide on some poses for the characters.

Here's an idea of what I want Birthday Rin to look like. Nice and simple, I'm not gonna overcomplicate this picture. That's way past my skill level.
