He'll probably just leave after shortstack goes through her arc and tells him his money is shit compared to the eternal reward of rescuing cute little girls.
And /tg/ is slow because 8ch is broke as shit and HW is too busy with the new code to fix it. The front page takes like twenty or thirty minutes to update and using the catalog can be a little unwieldy, since it doesn't show the latest posts. I think a lot of people are just holding out until infinity gets out of beta. Hopefully we'll see an increase in traffic after that.

He might join or maybe just follow the party since they're getting through the dungeon pretty quickly and for food. I don't think anyone would really reject a dedicated healer, unless he's a complete and total asshat.
No.196439
>>196431
The fact that he's a dedicated healer that can rez party members is the exact reason why he won't be staying long. Having a healer in your story is great for allowing characters to get majorly fucked up while being able to stay in the action, but having someone who can resurrect the dead at command completely neuters all suspense. The author would have to have some major ace up his sleeve to have a reason for keeping this guy around.

A wild theory, but I think they might have suffered one too many resurrections from the gnome since he seems quite happy to use them a meatshields. Their eyes aren't really expressive unless they're in danger, possibly their brain reacting to "Oh fuck, if we die again, that fucking gnome is gonna fuck up our head even more". We could say they don't talk because "they are foreign", but I think they have the know the language somewhat to be able to listen to the gnome's commands.

So, odds that by the time they get to the dragon, Faralyn's just going to be a skeleton in its stomach? I mean, it's hardly unknown to find the bones of dead people inside man-eating crocodiles or sharks; finding them inside the body of a man-eating dragon wouldn't be that unusual.
Then, to get the elf waifu the power she needs to cast the spell to regrow flesh on the bones to revive her, they cook the most magically-powerful portions of the dragon's corpse into a meal for her to eat. Then, once the sister's alive again, they cook the rest of the dragon into a celebratory victory feast.

Crocodile is quite nice as a meat. It's bland, but the thick veins of fat help give it a pork-like flavor and texture.
Now, if we make that giant (but add the issues from the Kraken due to size) we have huge pork-esque flavor, that needs to be balanced out with the fat to make it work.
Cooked well, and you have "Bourbon glazed Pork Belly Bites" that are usually the size of a poker chip as big as a small cow.
Cooked poorly, and you have tons of bland meat.
And that's not taking magic into consideration (in D&D being how prideful dragons are, wouldn't shock me if they cast a spell to turn their own flesh putrid on death to avoid the indignity of being eaten), or whatever organs are used to produce fire. (I remember a science show a few years ago talked about how dragons could be possible, and gold can react with some chemicals to make a flammable gas lighter than air- allowing them to float and breath flame).
>>206084
>>206104
I more worried about where the story would go from there. If we get another story arc- where could they go?
Another dungeon and other cuisine?
Plus, if it's the author's passion project, it might just wrap up nicely, leave you wanting more, and then he moves onto something else.

> I wonder what sort of story she'd have to tell about dying like that.
Previous issue showed the elf talking about it. It skirted around the greater cultural impact of knowing what death is like (or what's "after" and the excuses made if they see nothing), but thanks to their deaths being horrific (the elf girl had "drowned" from a slime engulfing her head) none of them want to go through it again.
So, PTSD for pointy things that look like teeth, trembling fear at loud roaring, possible aversion to things that cause a burning sensation to the skin or certain foul smells (reminded of digesting flesh in stomach acid), and possibly even flashbacks of trauma everytime anyone mentions dragon, or even the dungeon.
… Has anyone put the sanity system from Cthulhu games into normal fantasy games?

Be very careful with that. You can bet it would turn to shit if it got a full 24 minute episode adaptation. Not sure if the same would happen if it got a series of shorts like Teekyuu or something, though.
>Plus, if it's the author's passion project, it might just wrap up nicely, leave you wanting more, and then he moves onto something else.
Going by his previous work, he'll probably wrap this up and move on. I'm alright with that, though. I'd rather have something nice I can always go back to than something that drags on and gets stale.

True. If you take more than half your total health in damage, or you get put in minus health, roll willsave to see if that enemy or damage source gives you trauma.

I'd say One-Punch Man pulled it of quite well. They stayed faithful to the source and one episode usually consited of 2 short chapters IIRC. So let's hope we get the same luck with this, if it ever get's made into a show.

If you want something to tie into your fantasy campaign:
> Go to a magic university
> Professor had invented a device to communicate with fairies and the like. An NPC explains the history of it.
> During a lecture, the teacher is explaining the device.
> All of a sudden, a high pitched voice rings out "Stop ruining my sister's wedding!!"
> A city of Inchlings had been living behind the blackboard in that classroom for a while- uprooted and isolated from other Inchlings when the tree was felled and carved. An Inchling couple had tried to sort a wedding on a sunny day (when the sun beams come through the window just right), but the giants had come out of schedule (Lectures clashed, again) and so the giants booming voice and stamping feet pretty much made the whole event a write-off.
> The Inchling bride insisted everything was fine, and they'd try again later in the year (they could even give out the cake to see if it's OK), all while trying to hold back her tears.
> Her little sister- brave thanks to the inexperience of youth- stormed up to large table-like mountain and asked a passing Ladybug to get some friends to carry her up there. She understood what was being said (even though the giant's voice was really, really loud) and made her declaration known through the device. Breaking 100 years of oath that the Inchlings would never interact with giants.
> A few shrinking spells and discussion later, the kingdom decided to keep Inchlings a secret. Lest rumours of tiny spies ruin the balance of power (the Inchlings insistence that they lived "all over the world" was unsettling at best).
> Even faeries though Inchlings were a myth. And Animals treated them as any other creature- though mammals oddly seemed to protect them like their own young.
> So, the Kingdom made a pact of peace with the Inchlings, agreeing to keep their existence a secret (something they'd have done anyway), and leave certain spots protected for them. They promised not to give away food or materials unless a dire crisis happened- so the Inchlings did not succumb to temptation becoming reliant on their new friends. They even promised to help them find the forest where their tree had been taken from- even down to the same stump- and transport any Inchlings there. Moving the whole city and their inhabitants posessions would have taken a specially crafted hand-basket and two days travel at best.
> A few months after the discovery of Inchlings, a young Inchling couple finally got a wedding, back in their forest home with friends they had not seen for months no less. The service was payed and supplied for by giants- as a symbol of peace. Even though it cost less than the price of a sock to the "giants", it was the biggest celebration the Inchlings had ever had.
Your party gets shrunk to help out the Inchlings (a rouge sect wanting to be spys or grow bigger, rampant undead tiny spiders and mice who are giant by their standards, etc)
Add some lore about how Inchlings move fast to not get crushed and you're sorted.

I think the fascination with small critter is a fairly old one. There's something fascinating about looking at all the junk on your desk and thinking about fashioning it into armor and weapons, or tools.
Playing with Lego was especially great for this fantasy. It made you want to build little worlds and explore them with Orange Transparent Chainsaw in hand.
Even books like Redwall, The Borrowers, Indian in the Cupboard, The Mouse and the Motorcycle and others all kind of resonate with feeling.
The movie 9 may have sucked in a way, but the whole "stitchpunk" aesthetic was so attractive that it didn't matter.
I even put my players into a situation where they were turned into mice and had to fight a cat using any objects they could get their tiny hands on. They absolutely loved that session.

it's a japanese rpg. It was translated by the same guys that translated Tenra Bansho Zero, one of them also co-translated Maid the RPG.
The rules are very simple, the author actually created it as a way to introduce new players to trpgs.
While some games focus on combat and others focus on social skills this one mainly focuses on traveling. There are modifiers for all sorts of different terrain and weather. Equipment load, encumbrance rules and packing enough trail rations are fare more important then in most other games, however the rules for this actually very easy.
One other unique feature is that the GM get's a GMPC by default. Sound's pretty bad, eh? However, this is actually just a personification of "GM powers".
The players are having a much easier time then you planned? Make their journey harder. The group is about to get wiped out? Use your powers to safe them. That one enemy needs to escape but your players won't let him? Use your powers to have him get away.
These powers are limited by "LP" to prevent overuse.
The reason why it gets mentioned is because it has a rather peaceful design and feeling. Think Harvest Moon, if Harvest Moon was about travelling. Even the PCs are characters that would usually be NPCs in most other fantasy settings. Sure, soldiers and adventurers exist in the world but the PCs are merchants, craftsmen, farmers or similar mundane people.

I don't know. A lot of demonic things have regeneration of some kind or other.
I don't stretch the imagination much to imagine a fastfood joint that keeps a demon or two locked up in the basement and just slice their sirloins and steaks straight out of the demon and then just leave it to regenerate.
It would certainly be the kind of thing less morally scrupulous individuals with access to the lower planes might do. And more than a few demon princes might be inclined to sell off unpopular underlings to such individuals.
Now all you need is to turn it into a chain of stores…

The costs of hiring people willing to work with immensely pissed-off demons, constructing elaborate and foolproof summoning circles, buying specialized demon-butchering tools, and removing the health risks of eating demon flesh would probably preclude it from being profitable.
The fact that this is a medieval setting where fast food joints would be hard-pressed to find a steady source of customers and supplies is just icing on the cake.

Fast food joints have existed since at least Rome. Gladiators shilled like a bad commercial in the arena, human nature hasn't changed for tens of thousands of years.

Or is it just building suspense that the resurrection might not go to plan.

I wonder about the live span of the different races in this setting.
No.225872
>>225869
Well, gnomes in their 200's look pretty old, elves + dwarves also seem to have rather long lives. We don't really have many hints about how long humans, halflings, or kobolds live, but from Chilchack's comments about "stupid long-lifed races" maybe we can infer that they lead relatively short lives compared to dwarves/elves/gnomes.
Interesting question, though. I hope the author keeps dropping more info in the next few chpaters.
No.225890
>>225872
The halfling is in his 50s, yet still looks quite young (15).
His comment could mean that halflings aren't as long lived compared to Dwarves and Elves. Or, perhapes Halflings don't age steadily like humans do (They look 15 until they are about 70 as an extreme example).
The Gnome's comment about the elves "coming to us as equals" after getting immortality could imply Elves are extremely long lived (or maybe just a comment that with immortality you could build resources/power to rival the Elvish Empire).
Elves living longest also makes sense, as for the Elf Sorcerer (if it is an elf*) to learn immortality must have taken a lot of time.
So if we say Humans in this setting get to about 70, maybe 80 at a push:
- Halfings = 100?
- Dwarves = 100 or 150.(The Dwarf girl looks like a young adult or adult despite being 60 odd)
- Gnomes = 200
- Elves = 250 +
This is all their natural lifespans, and not considering environmental factors (a previous thread on Elves raised the point that long-lived elves would be bad for their society, so odds are they usually die in war/murder/accidents/disease far sooner).
* In the painting flashback, didn't we see the kingdom was human run?
