So I am wondering does any here collect certain books for their rarity/age/nostalgia/price? I at first was thinking this would only be for DnD but what other stuff if any is collected like this?

Is there a pricing guide for some of the rare stuff?

Here is a rare pic of best elf/grill as payment.

Also scans of them would be nice

I imagine original copies of Chainmail or signed copies of 1st edition D&D might be a pretty hot collectible. Original printings of stuff like the Tomb of Horrors come to mind as well.

Other than that, I can only think of stuff like the Black Lotus card.

I know a guy that has that DnD book with Cthulhu listed as a god. I keep trying to get him to scan it for posterity but he isn't interested.

I wanna see that.

It's this. They also had Elric in there too, but got into trouble because of the copyrights. All the later printings don't have Cthulhu.

I'm in love.

I feel the same way. It's weird how that bad art can just instantly give me happy childhood feelings.

I don't think there's a reliable price guide. Old D&D books aren't very rare, for the most part, but you have serious price gouging from some sellers. Pretty much any 1st edition AD&D book should be around $10-$20. I remember locally seeing a used book store trying to sell them for $75.

Some of the old adventure modules are genuinely collectible, and like >>220573 said the original Chainmail books, the things I see that are pricier are out of print boxed sets like Paranoia 2nd edition or TSR's Marvel Superheroes Advanced Set.

and by pricier I mean you can't get them for less than/equal to cover price.

Funny, I just ran across a Craigslist posting with that and a bunch of other old D&D. Some Marvel Super Hero books, RuneQuest, and Invincible Overlord too. About 34 different books, and the boxed games. Dude wants $250 for it.

Should I spring for it and get the scan of Elric and Cthulu?

IIRC used game sites like Noble Knight and some others have some price lists of their own development (usually the old D&D boxes with their original dice set were the most expensive)

There are already copies floating around the internet with the complete book (damn 8chan won't let me post it) and for a while the WOTC had a PDF scan of those 2 pantheon's back when they still hosted some of the old 1e/2e stuff.

 No.221494

Yeah. I have the Living Steel Boxed Set for Leading Edge Games. I'm trying to find more of their stuff but it's slow going.

Who's Elric?

 No.225375

The titular character from the Melniboné series written by Michael Moorcock. The very first printing of Deities & Demigods has deities from that series in it (and the pantheon laid the basis for the Chaos Gods of Warhammer fame), but the copyrights for both that stuff and the Cthulhu stuff were held by Chaosium. You know, the Call of Cthulhu guys.

So in the second print they were replaced by a shoutout, but in subsequent printing they were removed to not draw attention to competing products.

That old 1st Edition stuff was floating in torrents years ago.

Have you checked the torrents. It is probably still there.

Flame Revolving Midget needs to fix his site.

Luke Crane the giganigga vowed to never reprint this. So here is the PDF.
