 No.222103

Let's say your roommate, who is detestable as a person, but an okay DM, hosts a game in your (shared) apartment,

You don't participate, because it's not your style of game, or you don't like the system, or something like that.

Then you realize that the couch they'll be using is still infested with fleas and bedbugs, both pests that are easily spread via cloth to furniture and can make someone's life a living hell if they don't know how to handle them.

Your roommate, an aforementioned terrible person, has not informed his players.

What do you do?

I'm serious, this is actually happening.

 No.222105

Spray down the couch with insecticide because that shit is in the place you live and who fucking cares about other people when it's in your everyday life.

Also warn the other people that you've been having a bug problem and they might want to do something about it on their end unless they want bedbugs and fleas too.

 No.222107

>>222105

>Spray down the couch with insecticide

You, uh, you've never dealt with these fucks, have you?

Bedbugs don't just infest one piece of furniture. Anything with cloth, anything with padding, anything that regularily is host to human warmth (or warmth, period) becomes a breeding ground rapidly after bedbugs are introduced to an area.

They're not hard to kill but you need to be sure you get 100% penetration through a piece of furniture and all parts of that furniture that has cloth, or they'll be back shortly.

Finally, pesticides that work on them are hard to procure and difficult to use in volumes that are effective.

They are a good argument for the existence of fucking Satan.

Many of these people probably feel just like you do about him, and are just there for the game, and the people who don't feel that way don't have to live with him. So, they're pretty much innocent in this situation.

So, for their sake and yours spray down the couch and cover it with a sheet. You should probably do that to your bed, too, you squalid lunatic.

Do you keep all of your greasy pizza boxes? Do you have power or running water? Is your roommate just a human sized stack of newspapers?

Jokes Serious concerns aside, I have your best interests at heart, so just do it.

 No.222348

>>222252

Keep in mind I just got into this situation last year around… Let's say November.

My sister is good at one thing: Staying afloat. Or at least, alive. She's great at making friends, carving out a space, and making it work. So when I found myself on the verge of homelessness, I gave her a call.

"Yeah, sure! We'll clear some space for you."

Turns out I was in for a hell of a fucking ride. First night I stay there, laying down, I see one of those >>222103 fuckers scurry across my field of vision.

It turns out that my sister has been stuck with these two assholes (Rick and Jane, let's call her. Rick deserves no protection, but more on him later. Jane's alright.) had been ignoring my sister's call to take care of this issue since ==christmas of last fucking year.==

My sister and I are not on the lease. Apparently, if we bring up this issue to the landlord ourselves, we might get kicked to the street. Or something? I was never super clear on this, but here's what I am clear on:

>Rick claims that calling an exterminator would be too expensive.

>Rick claims also that he's worried about getting kicked out himself due to the poor conditions of the apartment.

>Rick, in addition to Point One and Two, is a huge idiot/asshole.

Two animals live here with us, a cat named Buddy (who always gets into fights because Rick refuses to nueter him) and a dog named Shia (a good dog that never gets taken out because Rick is too lazy, lies to Jane, and it's not OUR FUCKING DOG so why would we take her out?) that shits and pisses on the floor on a regular basis.

That's where the fleas come from. Rick won't shampoo her for 'environmental reasons'.

So that's why the bugs are still here. If there's interest, fuck, I could run a whole post on Rick, the athiest pagan satan-worshipping anarchist who votes regularily and loves shitty metal.

>>222348

Just reading your story made me itchy. I feel sorry for the animals.

Here's what you do. You, your sister, and "Jane" find some new roomate who isn't a fucking slob. Or two if you're so goddamn concerned about the money and need to split it with a fifth person and you leave Rick's disgusting ass to starve.

Take the animals with. If you don't want them for yourself, find someone who does and will take better care of them. Because they don't deserve that shit either.

 No.222361

Disgruntled veteran pest control dude checking in.

Those things are a PAIN IN THE ASS to get rid of.

The ethical thing is to tell them NO. Go somewhere else.

To handle this problem, if there's not that many, try spraying Bedlam all over the thing, and the things around it. Bedbugs do actually have a range in which they will wander from things. It's not far, but it's still something.

If it's really bad, call one of us. Most ethical businesses have a thing about not saying shit anyway, and we do handle bedbugs/fleas. This could cost you around 300 bux though.

If you got clothes, any and all clothes must go into the goddamn dryer immediately. Turn it on high. Bedbugs have a low heat tolerance: Anything above 120 is sure to kill them. Don't put them in the washer, because there's a chance they might actually manage to escape the whirling water deathtrap and -live in it-.

While you're at it, check your beds and other furniture as well. Check under the seams and places you don't typically look, and take off your sheets. If you find little colored blotches that are black or any other color, bedbugs are there. Perform chemical destruction on them as well.

Seriously though, call a goddamn exterminator. Those things are fucking hard to get rid of.

 No.222365

>>222113

Pest control dude again.

I wouldn't recommend fumigation, not unless the place is literally crawling with them in every single little crack and crevice that they have. Even than, it's still possible to handle them. Just hard as shit. Any self-respecting pest control company won't argue AGAINST it, as it'll make them a load of money, but yeah, this still might warrant a call to them.

>>222135

Bedbugs have legs. They move around when they get hungry. There is still a risk of spread.

>>222155

Despite many people's opinions, bedbugs don't give a shit about who they infest. It's why plenty are in even upscale hotels now. Great for our business.

>>222161 >>222255

A reasonable reaction if you intend to get a new couch. Just to be sure, you'll need to burn the apartment as well. I would rather deal with German roaches than bedbugs.

Exterminator is the best bet you have. Do what they tell you and let'em in, and the issue should be solved at the very least within a week.

 No.222380

Pestcontrol dude again.

Did I mention the -horrible- shit fleas carry? Your guests will most defiantly tell motherfuckers that they got it from -your- place if they put two and two together.

Call the goddamned exterminator, and if there's an issue with the room-mate, as unethical as it is, with them coming in? Get them to come in without him there. But for fucks sake, get rid of the shit ASAP. It's not just a health issue, it's a quality of life issue.

 No.222381

And no, you can't starve bedbugs out. Know how long those motherfuckers can go without food? A year. A -fucking year-.

 No.222403

>>222374

This is an all around bad situation, but the thing with the pets is something that is easy enough to fix.

Literally. Getting a pet fixed is an overnight procedure. If the vet is decent, don't expect to pay more than 200$, tops.

As for the dog, just be the better person and take that poor animal outside and rinse it in the shower. From the sounds of it, these terrible people aren't actively trying to keep or take care of either one, so if you go out and find someone else willing to take care of them, you can always argue that you've been looking after them and they haven't.

And OP.. The fact that you've done nothing and allowed yourself to live in this squalor doesn't make you as much of a victim as you'd like. You may have had no other choice, but you spent months in this shitty situation and did nothing.

Time to get your shit together.

 No.222899

OP here.

Update: We've called the fucking landlord ourselves. She's shocked that we haven't contacted her, and then decided to call the other three units in our building.

Lo and fucking behold, after a few hours, she gets them to admit it too. Turns out the whole building is compromised, and after a few interviews it's not Rick's fault.

See, there was this furniture rental place nearby. They rented to anyone, which turned out to be a terrible idea because they rented to someone who had bedbugs in their house, across town. Mattress comes back, then out again, before they check it, ba-bam, it hits the place kitty-corner to us.

They assume these things are some kind of roach or something and are too ashamed to call anyone. They move around until they get to the place below them, (next to us) and then, to us. So we aren't getting evicted, yay! The place even got fucking cleaned, because Rick and Jane got paranoid about living conditions and shit.

Exterminators due within a day or so, god rest their souls.

Looking into the pet situation, but as far as I can tell, it's against the law for non-owners to directly nueter and animal against the wishes of the owner, not to mention that getting Rick to leave is a herculean feat in and of itself. The fuck hardly leaves the bedroom he's so obsessed with second life.

But hey. One issue handled. Thanks for the fire under our asses, guys.

if your coach (your roommates that is in your apartment?) is infested with bedbugs, it means that you are infested with bedbugs anon.

Get the fug out and don't room with degenerates.

 No.227851

Exterminator dude…again.

I've seen some fairly wealthy well off people with bedbugs. They don't care how clean you are: You can get them. Anyone can.

The trick is to squash the problem before we have to be called. Granted, most people don't even know what the shit a bedbug is, it seems.

Cleaning the place up is a good first step, but I do recommend -everything getting checked- when dealing with them. Bedbugs travel. Yes, you can even find them on planes and buses now (Not trying to scare anyone.) Typically places where people spend long periods of time.

Check any place you may sit or lay down, or your roommates. I tend to do a complete job, but I can't speak for others. If you still have bedbugs in the house by the end of it, the problem WILL come back.

 No.227872
