Hey /tg/
So recently I've been studying China, specifically lately the Communist Revolution, Mao Zedong, and the Cultural Revolution. I've also been thinking about campaigns to run, so when these two thoughts in my head overlapped you can see where they led.
My current rough idea is that its either in fantasy not!China, the invading Japanese being replaced with orcs, and making various cultural groups different races. Or the other idea is to just make it a standard wuxia setting without guns.
Either way, the campaign would take all the craziest and most interesting parts of this like 50-80 year span of Chinese history and mash it into one. So while the old Empire is trying to stay in control, the Nationalists and Communists are also fighting, and the Japanese are invading. And while their fighting, the Communists are going around killing scholars, priests, teachers, martial artists, etc. because Cultural Revolution.
The PC's would be members of Jiang hu, the martial artist world, trying to save priceless artifacts and texts from the Communists, protect people from the invading not!Japs, and do various heroic adventurer things in the setting during this time of turmoil. The PC's would also decide if they wanted to support the Nationalists or the Old Empire, or neither.
Whatever happens though, not!Mao Zedong would be the BBEG. I think the faction name of "Crimson Fists" would work for the communists, whether its eastern fantasy or just wuxia.
I'm really fascinated with Chinese history, so I think I could turn that into a pretty kickass loosely-based historical game.
I'm not sure how to handle the presence of western influence in the setting, though that might be rectified with further research.
What does /tg/ think?
