Sup /tg/

I'm starting up an RPG club-type thing with a few friends at my campus, and I've come up with a solution to the apparent lack of player's handbooks in our group of friends. I'm going to be printing what is basically a condensed version of the PHB for 5e, and I was wondering what you all think are the important bits that need to be in there. Mind you, there's going to be a lot of newer players using it, so I want it to cover char gen and basics of play. What other things would be important to include?

Not familiar with 5e/D&D in general, so I don't know if this is too relevant, but you should probably include a brief primer on the lore/world.

It's a role-playing game after all, and it's a bit hard to role-play when you don't know what the world is like.

Also, why not just get a digital copy of the book and share that with everyone? The share thread probably has it.

Though, I guess it could be nice to have a physical copy, especially one that has just the bare necessities.

Hotwheels, stop giving me errors and let me post.

Just give them PDFs of the PHB. Trying to condense it sounds like a good idea until you remember that they'll want spells.

It's more just personal preference. I'll give them access to a digital full copy, but for quick referencing rules and such, physical copies are the way to go imo.

Just quickly explain character creation and the use of the d20 (with advantages and disadvantages) and keep the spell chapter as it is.

e5 magic is a fucking bitch to learn

OP Here, I guess in the same vein, what do yall think are the best things to explain to new players outside of the basic d20 mechanics and chargen?

How new are we talking? New to DnD, or new to tabletop in general?

If we're talking complete greenhorns, then it'd be best to explain the do's and don't's of role-playing, basically how not to be That Guy, and how to make an interesting character concept that isn't a Mary Sue or walking cliché.

 No.223411

Just stop. Setting up any club at a campus means it's going to suck.

You'll get normalfags who want the club as a backdrop to chat with their buddies at best. At worst, you'll get SJWs infesting it.

Quit the club idea and just play tabletop with your friends.

At my college we made a LARP troupe/D&D group under the guise of an "improv" society. Doing this put us under the radar of the spergs and we were free to invite whoever we wanted and keep out anyone we didn't like. We actually did do improv on some nights but only occasionally. The main focus was the LARP and it was the best roleplaying experience of my life.

To clarify it was World of Darkness LARP. No boffer LARP or anything like that.
