 No.226373

What wargame(s) would be best suited to being modified in order to play something in the vein of the Red Alert series?

 No.226376

>>226373

Might have to homebrew it and just use tanks and soldiers from other materials, depending on how 'like Red Alert' you want it.

I mean, there are countless systems that would allow tank and infantry combat, but not many that use bases, which are an integral part of Red Alert because of superweapons, engineers and Tesla Coils.

There's also damage typing to consider, as getting hit by a Tesla Trooper or a Desolator would be different from being hit by machinegun fire or a tank round.

I suppose, but then you'd need to start differentiating the different vehicles. In game they just have different damage and weakness values but for a wargame that could become cumbersome. I mean, off the top of my head, RA2, you've got rifle, rocket, flak, prism, tesla, desolator, tank, tank destroyer, whatever mirage tanks fire, kirov bombs, migs, cruiser bombers…

Each model is sold with a set of specially-printed d6es. The dice are colored according to damage affinity, and the symbols represent different kinds of damage; for instance, green dice might represent a weakness to bullets, while blue is for lightning, yellow is for explosives/fire, etc etc. The dice are the same within a certain color–i.e., the yellow dice always have X of Y symbol and W of Z symbol–but each unit has a different combination.

(All this shit would be on a reference card, natch)

When you roll to attack, you roll that unit's dice. If you get a symbol, you do damage, represented by removing that unit's dice; you can either remove 2 of the matching color or 1 of any other color.

Bases, superweapons, and other such things are their own models; they have d8s of the appropriate colors, which have more blank sides, but also have more dice overall.

Something based on Song of Blades and Heroes based on actual conflict or near future, like the Flying Lead ruleset

 No.226474

Team Yankee if you want pure WW 3 shit. Though it would lack the sci fi weapons n all.

Ah, but it just ain't Red Alert without the sci fi weapons.

How hard would it be to rule in the more sci fi stuff like Tesla tech etc.?

 No.228126

basically, warhammer 40k. You need a big rewriting of some stuff tough, completely taking away the HtH combat and psionic (unless you want to keep the jap commando and yuri).
