Does the author enjoy DnD or does she just like mythical creatures?

If we're already seeing stuff like cockatrice and hippogriff I can only imagine what awaits even deeper in the dungeon.

 No.399711

>>399710

Far as anyone can tell, the author is just a nerd for folklore, but D&D-type fantasy must have been somewhat of an influence, as mimics, dungeons, elven sorcerers and such, don't really tend to show up in Germanic folklore in the way they're portrayed here.

 No.399730

>>399683

Seems more like they just didn't notice it.

>>399700

I think wanting monsters in the dungeon qualifies as 'Not much' since thats probably about all the orcs want too. Also I'm retracting my genderswap changeling bet, Laius is going to become an orc since he also doesn't really want anything now, just to get his sister back and to eat.

 No.399732

>>399711

Folklore > DnD

 No.399737

>>399676

You can already sense where the story is going, she's really set up the groundwork for the finale.

>the dungeon is both magical and alive

>it also acts like a monkey's paw - it will grant you your wish, but it will backfire horribly

>the sorcerer wanted to save the kingdom - it ended up cursing everyone with immortality

>the ghosts want someone to take out the sorcerer - they get Laius

>the other adventurer party wanted gold - they ended up killed by gold coin bugs

>Laius wants to save his sister - she's a fucking chimera now

>he still wants to save her

>the only way he can do that is to become the new Dungeon Master

>this will fulfill both the old king's and the ghosts' wishes

>dickass elves want to shut the dungeon down

>remember how the dungeon is alive?

>like every living being, it wants to stay that way as long as possible

>it will end up with a showdown between Laius and the elves

Also, a personal theory is that the Dungeon itself has a wish, but that it's not immune to the effects of its own monkey paw. So, since it wanted to survive, it will get the best possible Dungeon Master in the form of Laius, but - this is Laius we're talking about.

It's the strong DnD-like influence is obvious and that's why I love it. There's quite a few examples of it in the story.

Resource management is (or at least it should be) a concern in any good dungeon adventure and their failure to do so was how the story got started in chapter 1.

The highly detailed trap checking in some chapters.

The dungeon maps we see once in a while.

>See that Parallel Paradise has updated

>haven't read it in months

>it's that shitty isekai where MC is thrown out a window by some mysterious creature and wakes up in a world where there are no men and women die when they turn 20 unless they mate

>Every female in the setting is fucking pitiful and obnoxious and the attempts at lewdness are ruined by the sheer misery oozing over every attempt at eroticism

>latest chapter

>MC is back in the real world and he's crippled as fuck

>Girl from the start of the series is the evil doll thing that isekai'd him by tossing him out a window because she's a yandere now, I guess

>flip back a few chapters

>everytime MC dies in rapeworld, he returns to the real world, where he's crippled from being tossed out a window

>every time the creepy doll shows up again and tosses him out another window

>first time he returned, he almost did it on his own so he could go back and save his shitty harem from some monster

>Got tossed out a window anyways and probably got the girl he likes killed in the process

>most recent chapter

>MC can't die anymore and swap between worlds because he's too crippled and fucked up to survive another isekai'ing

>he's back in the fantasy world now, and being used to forcibly fuck as many women as possible for some reason or another

Man, I'm glad I dropped this series, but I guess no one should be surprised, given this is the same author that gave us Elfen Lied.

Stravaaganza, Isai no hime ( princess escapades to have adventures accientally uncovers a plot to destroy the peace of her kingdom and many others, also lewds) and Kuutei dragons (comfy dragon hunting on flying ships)

Stravaganza got dropped by its translation group around volume 3 (lasted up to volume 7 in Japan)

Kuutei Dragons is still going, butKodansha is doing official translations, so its hard to find free scans now

Goblin slayer is the best LN Manga this year by far, prove me wrong.

PS. The characters are pretty 2 dimensional and not very dynamic other than GS and the priestess, and I find goblin slayer carries the group when he is with them and could do very much more in a gold group. But other than that I can't find many obvious demerits with it and the many merits are really what keeps me coming back to it. Compared to even monster cooking simulator I find GS is more enjoyable since its much more action oriented and has a very fluid flow to the story compared to the episodic thing dungeon meshi has going on

I love the series but I disagree. The manga started in 2016 so it can't be the "best new manga of this year". Memesis takes that prize in my opinion but that just my personal taste, I'm sure some other new series are objectively better.

If you mean "best manga this year that started before 2018" then Dungeon Meshi wins effortlessly.

Marry grave is also good. Also is its still releasing or they jailed author for child porn? His style looks exactly like that guy who made ronin kenshin(?) and he was jailed. And to be honest few chapters of flashback were unnecessary. Its like completely different story with different characters. Handling of flashbacks were much better when they were related to whatever was happening at a moment. Like "this fairy knew your wife, this is her memories, this mermaids knew your wife, this is their memories".

I think that's intentional though, Marry and Sawyer have different specialties.

> Handling of flashbacks were much better when they were related to whatever was happening at a moment

At the same time it was inevitable that we'd need the full story, and the memory shell worked well to tie together the previous bits of information and this flashback is good if you haven't kept up with it recently.

A bit of my guilty pleasure. "Lies of the Sheriff Evans", a romantic comedy manga about Wild West. Artstyle is kinda shit, but not only this kind of setting is rare in manga, the whole thing is like an American sitcom from 90s, in a good way. I can dump couple of chapters if someone wants, but it is not hard to find it on the usual manga sites.

Gotta agree, that guys biggest cotribution to the thread was showing how not to contribute. I like Evans and I can understand wanting to share a manga you enjoy. I did the same with Memesis and Handyman Saitou (which just got two new chapters) but dumping more than 1 chapter of a long running series is just spam, even if it was /tg/ related. Anybody who's interested can just read it anywhere else, it's not like you need any skill to search for it on mangadex. It's worth it Oakley a cute, nothing like the sluts from chapter 1.

Goblin Slayer's version definitely more fantasy, but his helmet seems to be similar to these...

I found these with "barred close-helm," but I'm sure there's a more accurate name for the style. They appeared after the 1600s mostly as tournement armor, sacrificing some protection for a wider field of view.

Goblin Slayer's seems to combine this with a loose saxon look with the horns and plume.. Though, the idea that horned helmets were a thing are mostly a pop culture invention

There is some theory beyond it looking cool (but I assume this is coming out of my own ass as oppose to intentional). The plume attracts attention.

Goblins overreact to nearly any stimuli- blindly rushing towards a target in a berserker rage, or fleeing in cowardice from a stronger foe. The plume acts asa red flag- goblins notice Slayer more so he can kill them easier, or create more opportunities for them to make errors.

It also makes non-combatants and other fighters notice him more often- so as he goes berserk he doesn't accidentally hurt one of them. Whether it be a rescued villager or someone fighting along side him, it says "come to me for safety, but stay out of the way". This also helps in the off-chance he ever needed rescuing, but I doubt that's ever on his mind.

The wide visor helps see more- to see more foes and allies as someone else said.

I believe his visor is removable, otherwise he cant wear it. And removable visor is pretty useless if not harmful. On top-front has some weird construction. Unless its a place to move visor to. And a fucking removable chin so he can eat as autist. But if you start thinking about anything fantasy related artwork you will notice a lot of these things so I guess you should ignore it unless its completely ridiculous.

>I found these with "barred close-helm," but I'm sure there's a more accurate name for the style.

Its a renaissance combat helmet, either the Burgonet or the Lobster-tailed pot helmet/Zischägge, they were used from the 16th century to the 18th century by Sword&Buckler men, Pikemen, Demi-Lancers, Harquebusier, Hussars and Cuirassiers.

Typical for all renaissance helmets is that they all started out with a full face cover, which was then reduced to the style Goblin Slayer uses and later versions just have a piece of metal in front of the face.

The reason for the reduction was that the full face cover doesn't protect against bullets and makes handling a firearm difficult, so they decided to chose having a better field of vision and an easier way of breathing.

Goblin Slayers entire armor set can be called "Renaissance", with fantasy bits and pieces added for fashion. He first buys "hardened leather armor", but then wears bits of plate armor over it, with is basically similar to this Harquebusiers armor from the 17th century, which is a buff coat(basically a leather Gambeson) with just a breastplate, a pair of gloves and a helmet. He later finds that his "hardened leather armor" doesn't protect him against stab attacks by goblins(since the buff coat was just used for cut resistance) and so he decides on getting a maile hauberk. This also fits with the time, since renaissance cavalry also downgraded to plate with maile and chain maile had a revival in renaissance Italy thanks to the huge number of assassinations that happened during that time. Lastly there is his small full metal round shield(Buckler), which was also popular at the time, see the Spanish Rodeleros.

All in all Goblin Slayer could fit in as a soldier in the army of a Conquistador, hunting down the Aztecs.

>>401703

>Which is likely a feather. This also points to the helmet being a tournement helm.

Nah feather and horns are explained by the craftsmen in the goblin slayer universe building useless shit simply for fashion since its selling good to the adventurers dreaming of being a hero.

See Goblin Slayer Year One Chapter Two. The theme is later repeated with the other adventurers wearing no helmets and shit armor.

As an aside, do people have a preference between board games and card games (the non ccg types)? I tend to face or card games due to their portability and they are more repayable to me. Board games can get somewhat bulky for my travelling purposes, and they usually feel more like a "one and done" affair. It's been years since i've replayed a board game.

But Necro is more degenerate and vulgar than anyone else save Norma? This isn't a secret either, Necro as a witch is just that nasty a person and admitted as much.

>I'm really just rooting for Frank now

Potential spoilers

I'm not sure where you are in the story but if you're rooting for Frank this early on that says not a good thing since his goal is genocide in part

I think the actual racism towards beastmen is just some amalgamation of post Jim-Crow America and 1920's New York. It's just a small cabal of old leaders and various big-wigs who don't want to get with the changing times. People like Pete and the other Officers show that your average citizen is cool with Beastmen. Which is a good balance to have as far as the story goes.

Keyman has some problems but I don't think it's really painting humans unilaterally as Nazi's But there is still a literal KKK/Big Fire running around and the plight of Beastmen is something I liked about it as Alex is right about just accepting the body you got.

Or they should have just killed the Beastmen as they were born, like Spartans.

Or Frank could achieve his genocide.

Or Necro could undo her shit doings.

That are many possibilities for a resolution, except letting the Beastmen and Keymen continue existing, because, as we know from reality, this is basically the worst outcome ever and represents the doom of their society, which is not explicitly showed in the works because it doesn't care about details, so it shouldn't also be taken seriously.

When you actually go beyond just making a statement, to trying to qualifying it, I doubt it's just purely in jest.

>Or they should have just killed the Beastmen as they were born, like Spartans.

About that...

>Or Frank could achieve his genocide.

Which is fucked because what did the beastmen ever do to deserve Genocide for other people's mistakes?

>Or Necro could undo her shit doings.

Which won't necessarily end the phenomenon of beastmen or even turn existing beastmen into humans as she's been pretty mum about her end goal as far as you have read.

And I'm with Pete on this, Beastmen are cool peoples. And I wouldn't mind mixing my genes if you know what I mean?

>And I'm with Pete on this, Beastmen are cool peoples. And I wouldn't mind mixing my genes if you know what I mean?

So that's where you're coming from.

>Which is fucked because what did the beastmen ever do to deserve Genocide for other people's mistakes?

Because they threaten society as a whole. The story doesn't tell, but how would an elephant one take a bus? How ALex's heavy tail doesn't bump into everyone while walking? What if it hits an elder? Or how do their hands have the same grip as humanoid ones? Male beastmen, who appear much more like animals, would be completely useless because of this grip problem.

Then, how would Alex write with a pen? Or type? How would you price airplane seats for small ones? Or for big ones?

How would you feed a society filled with Alex? Or with Walters?

This would put a complete halt on industry, as things wouldn't have standard sizes anymore and everything would have to be small scale and expensive - the economy would crash overnight, famine would ensure.

Now, how about violence? Beastmen have a much greater physical power and the scale of violence, even without weapons, would skyrocket, hospitals would be overburdened, there would be the need of specialized doctors for surgeries depending on the species, translating would be a mess and would probably halt (it already is today, with the races we have), some medicine would have to be tailored for each species, and then costs goes up too.

And then, reproduction: How in hell did Alex born? There would be so many problems, DNA-wise as well, spontaneous abortions, deadly pregnancies for the mothers, etc

You see, you just can't see consequences because you're dumb. How can't you see the consequences today as well?

Really, you have to be very dumb to pretend nothing happens.

The author tries simply to ignore every single problem that would arise in this society, and I'm sure he does that because this is just fiction.

The problem arises when people can't distinguish the lines between shallow fictional worldbuilding and empty messages with reality itself.

Cervantes once told that people shouldn't learn how to read and books shouldn't become an industry because people would mistake the line between fiction and reality.

That's exactly what you're doing, that's exactly what the author is doing deliberately (but he knows how to separate the two and has no intention for his fictional world to be realistically possible - if he has, and if his fake morality is true, then I can only pity his idiocy).

We could also extend this discussion to modern ideologies, which are fictions and wishful thinkings out of someone's head (like Marxism), but that people treat like non-fictitious.

Well, I overextended and talked too much with someone too retard to comprehend points.

>So that's where you're coming from.

In part, but it's not something I've been subtle about in any of my posts. Like, at all. Did you even bother reading them or just found a single word and hammer out these responses?

But just as you claim jest in liking Necro, I'll claim jest in wanting to fuck a monstergirl. The real question was simply the ethics of wishing genocide on a racial group purely because you find their existence abominable. Since you are on the same boat as Frank with regards to the beastmen "problem" and the final solution to them. If you had stuck with the notion that their existence is an anathema on reality this could have been a good argument. But you had to go full autist.

>You see, you just can't see consequences because you're dumb. How can't you see the consequences today as well?

Well since you're a raging faggot who shifted the discussion from the moral ramifications of wishing genocide against a group of people to whether or not Industry would maintain. I guess we can talk about this. Industry works, anyone too big to ride a plain/train/automobile walks. But the majority of beastmen are human sized so transportation isn't as big an issue. Diet likewise isn't that crazy since it's the outlier for beastmen to reach the mass of Walter or Alex. The farm industry won't collapse just because of a few big eaters.

>The author tries simply to ignore every single problem that would arise in this society

Ok speed reader, did you ignore the issues of racism, slavery, abuse, and even infant murder or are you still at chapter 3 and still pretending the story presents humans as Nazi's? Seems like you're being disingenuous

You're complaining about births and DNA when literal magic is at play here, how does the old saying go? He ain't got to explain shit. Likewise you don't even pay attention to the stuff the story does bring up like the actual anatomy of beastmen and why some of your medical problems are irrelevant so once again, are you even paying attention to the plot?

If Beastmen are an evolutionary dead end as a result of being a mutation. Just let them die out normally and without further provocation on behalf of mages/humans. If they can survive and thrive than they have just as much a right to continue their existence as homo sapiens do.

If you're really arguing that literacy is a problem because you took a conversation on the internet this far because whether or not a fictional story adheres to the tenants of reality in exactly the ways you want. Maybe you just have a problem not blurring the lines yourself? Then again, you also get hot under the collar over little girls in sexy underwear so I doubt distinguishing flights of fantasy from the real world are the least of your problems.

Seriously, Necro as an adult is far better. Who wouldn't want to bury their heads in that bosom?

Hmmm. Sounds like someone is backpedalling now. According to the story, your reasons aren't valid. Even the rhino guy could ride a bus and nobody is want for food. So what reasons did you have that weren't blown out the water already? Again, the sane argument is arguing about the tear in reality that is causing beastmen.

>but it's you

Seeing as you went from saying the author didn't address ANY issues with beastmen and ignored them to "They only chose these specific ones" yes. You are backpedaling. Just acknowledge it and move on.

>real problems.

So Racism isn't a real problem? Infanticide isn't a real problem? Crude torture devices and weapons used to hunt down beastmen during the absolute worst time in discrimination isn't a real problem?

But how much space one guy takes up is the real things the story glosses over. Except it doesn't even in that case.

>Freddie

Is still human sized anon. Don't change the subject again. As far as height goes he's no taller than your average man. The tail is a slight inconvenience, but no more than walking your dog through a crowded area. Aaron gets around just fine himself since his plumage isn't a big deal and easily kept under clothing.

Wanna try again?

>I'm back.

And I'm laughing anon that you're sperging out.

>>402147

If you're using a crowded backstage as the proof that beastmen are a problem with space. Ask yourself how anyone but that mouse bouncer could have walked between those women without bumping their backs with just the shoulders alone? This is cherrypicking of the weakest order.

It also looks like a pretty cramped room. I imagine the situation wouldn't be much different if he were just a morbidly obese human. The scene is showing that the beastfolk bar is small and full of all kinds of different beasts. He's not bumping into them because he's an awkward abomination who can't control his body. There's just no way for him to pass through such a small area without bumping into things.

 No.402158

>According to the story, your reasons aren't valid. Even the rhino guy could ride a bus and nobody is want for food.

This is where I said the author hides what he doesn't want people to see. Then it becomes really easy to not understand why the beastmen are disliked or shouldn't exist.

>So Racism isn't a real problem? Infanticide isn't a real problem? Crude torture devices and weapons used to hunt down beastmen during the absolute worst time in discrimination isn't a real problem?

These aren't Beastmen-exclusive problems, and not even the biggest ones. In the story, it even explicitly said that the Beastmen traffic was a cover up for the real human traffic.

>And I'm laughing anon that you're sperging out.

Why do you project?

>If you're using a crowded backstage as the proof that beastmen are a problem with space. Ask yourself how anyone but that mouse bouncer could have walked between those women without bumping their backs with just the shoulders alone? This is cherrypicking of the weakest order.

You're the one cherrypicking - I presented evidence, you dismissed it without reason.

Also, a rare moment for the author: he wouldn't show this scene (as his doesn't later on) if it wasn't to "add character" to him, specially because it was his introduction, his intent wasn't to demonstrate the day-to-day life of Freddie.

>>402156

>morbidly obese human.

Are you defending this? Or normalizing this?

>He's not bumping into them because he's an awkward abomination who can't control his body

He's bumping because he walks with arms and legs spread and has a giant tail.

>There's just no way for him to pass through such a small area without bumping into things.

Imagine this 100000x worse day by day in society.

Again, this is not even the biggest of problems, this is just the most apparent one.

Food would be a massive problem, as you keep dismissing it also, as you can't possibly conceive anything: there are many Carnivore-only Beastmen, now imagine how production would have to shift in farms.

We have problems today with animal husbandry space, just imagine the madness there.

Also, you're fucking dismissing how every single male, even ape-like, wouldn't be able to manipulate stuff with their hands.

Like what the fuck, these people would be drags to society so big, and would be living off welfare.

>Oh! But the author shows them holding thin-

Again, his bias shows one thing, hides another.

That's how he creates a narrative, and that's why people can't see how this shit would be a problem.

For fuck's sake, turtles don't even have fingers, how does the anatomist got his job?

>Oh, but we'll add this just for him

And then you have suspension of disbelief and you ruined your story.

If he really cared too (and he didn't because Freddie is an asshole) he would have turned his shoulders and hips to the side, tucked in his elbows and knees, and even if his tail was a problem pull it behind him to minimize his frame.

He did none of these so of course he's bumping into those people like any normal human of the same size and using the same posture. When your elbows and knees are jutting out like that you will hit someone regardless of species. Let's try and get the thread back on track if everybody is finished sperging out.

Dumping the first 5 chapters of Historie, a manga I recommended a couple of threads back about the life of the ancient General Eumenes under Philip II and Alexander.

Shouldn't be too offtopic seeing as we have a thread up about bronze age character art

That's it for Ch5, kinda like berserk in that it leads into a long flashback arc before the story proper.

Probably the only manga other than Paladin, Meshi and Kingdom that I'm interested in.

Gonna be perfectly honest: I absolutely hate how shitty gook comics are at scaling power. None of the effects or attack mean shit. Every work is a glaring example of plot armor, and every artist masturbates to their "fundies" while completely disregarding story-boarding, plot, and character development. There's always a million things going on every page, and none of them fucking matter. I honestly suspect gook mythology is to blame. I've never encountered a decent adaptation to any of their stories because there's nothing to anchor their powers to. A man can get cut in half, then just regenerate instantly. An inexperienced MC warrior can get shot up with a million arrows, have them poking out the other side of his chest, and just kinda shrug like "well shit, I didn't want this happening today", a bad guy can be on his last leg after defeating a super strong backup character, then go on to have 30 more fights with all the other backup characters and kill them without any deviation to his speed or power, like he somehow never missed a beat from the first fight (except now he might be panting super hard all the time).

Journey is just another example of everything wrong with chinese lore and creativity.

Wow, if anything, Journey to the West is really good.

You're just not cultured enough to understand the several references of china proper, greater china, tocharia, the silk route, bodhidharma, sogdia, etc, and this includes the "fights" and the scenic motion applied.

Watch some chinese movies or thunderbolt fantasy to get the stuff, and really, this style might not be for you, and your judgement is basically like a cubist judging an impressionist.

Read it with a soundtrack also.

>Muh swastika

Aryans were great, many things about chinese culture, from the claydoll army, buddhism, taoism, kung fu, yin yang and more were just the left over versions of Aryan cultural influence there.

Yes, americans can do the french cinema noir, italians can do spaghetti western and the japanese can create a chinese epic.

There's a difference here. He stated that most chinese comics are shit because they writers suck at writing, not because he dislikes the genre.

I have enjoyed quite a few wuxia movies before, I like thunderbolt fantasythough I need to catch up with the new season, and once in a while there's a good manhua. For example, I really like Blood and Steel.

On the other hand Journey to the West, like many others I gave a try, feels really bland and uniteresting.

>Thank you for not being like that guy and overgeneralize thousands of works because of a tiny experience with a limited array of works.

You seem to be completely misunderstanding something here, Chink webtoons and manwha are trash because the sheer volume of people in China means that you can pump garbage out daily and have a guaranteed audience who will read it. The stuff that's translated and put in various portal websites is basically the cream of the crop and not the other way around because translators know it's a waste of time.

That's not actually what translators do, they only partly translate a work to gauge interest then drop it when interest wanes for something better if the series is too long. Or alternatively they're paid to translate something.

>Do you even know the chinese language to affirm that?

90% of everything is shit, China is no exception to this rule. There is no reason to be upset about it; again you misunderstand because your so self conscious of how people think of China that you lose it over simple deductive reasoning.
