Since people want to see some real /tg/ topic, I'll make one:

4e was the best D&D edition ever produced. It was balanced, highly customizable character options.

AD&D comes at a close second because status ailment saving throw lists can be easier customized by a good DM, thac0 actually made a lot of sense, and given the way thac0 operated a +2 longsword actually meant something. It's flaws were of course classes doing next to nothing for long intervals, the "lol minions/hirelings" cop-out to balance something, and the killer DM syndrome even when NOT playing tomb of horrors.

5th edition is the worst by far. I don't say this because it's new. I have way more reason to hate 4e given how wotc responded to it's forum member base during it's creation. Banning people for trolling cause of rumors, but than saying "ok it is rel, but we don't want spoilers". Bullshit. They just made a ban holocaust but than "lol, go out and buy goyim." Never bought a single book. Torrented it like a commissar.

But mechanically it was sound. 5e is not. The scaling is whack on skillchecks, the classes are still enormously imbalanced, they didn't play-test it for shit, and we all know wotc just made it to make more money. There was nothing wrong with 4e. Wotc really has just become Games Workshop only they don't even produce anything good. If you think Magic is good, you are a lost soul.

5e was really just Wizards of The Coast attempt to take back some fans away from Pathfinder. Which has it's flaws, but that's because third edition was shit too. Pathfinder is making all the same mistakes in not giving a damn about the balanced classes. 3.5's best material was things like the warlock, tome of battle, psionics.
